It's not that women want someone to 'push them down', they actually want to be 'lifted up' by someone which does imply that the partner is higher or more capable than them in some way. The real key here is children. Women want to be able to be fully attentive to the children, so the man shes with cannot be like another child, he has to be a rock and provider. Not so she can be oppressed like a little rat, but so she can be a more secure and stable mother.

It's not that easy to get pregnant at those ages, certainly with no guarantees. Additionally, not all couples can even afford the fertility treatments often required to do so.

  18. I think you are missing a large part of this discussion by not considering the Hays code. The consistent draw of sexuality, so that it was good business to have it on screen, coupled with censors who required that it could not be shown in a positive light, led to a long term association of characters, such as the femme fatale, who were on the one hand explicitly sexualised, and on the other explicitly evil. This is kind of an essential peice of the story.

Like actual "I hate you and I literally want to see you die" mental state for what he said about Appalachians. Then I saw Wendigoon's comment, and it reminded me to step back and behave more Christ like about this. Now I just feel genuinely sorry for him, and I just wish to hear of him receiving mental help because he unironically needs it. Also needs friends cause it's clear he's lonely and depressed, but then again nobody wants to be friends with someone that blows up at you and dehumanises you for having a slightly differing opinion.

  32. Alright, woman veteran (US Navy) here adding my 2 cents, enlisted for 4 years and went to 2 deployments. Most women I met have ended up single moms, and two of my good friends are into their third marriages. There are lots of cheating and promiscuity. I met very few men faithful to their wives, and out of all the couples that happened during my 4 year stay, I only know of one that survived. Personally, best way is to stay out of relationships while there which is what I did. I went to church with awesome bootcamp girlfriends and pretty much, most people I worked with thought I was a lesbian which was fine by me. Saved me a lot of drama. I did end up marrying a few years later after I got back home to an amazing man, but I’m not the typical demographic you guys normally look at (immigrant, hispanic, from Miami). So I don’t even know if that’s helpful or not. I don’t regret my time in the military because it helped me grow as a person, however to this day I don’t think that’s a healthy place for a woman. My humble opinion.

  36. My ex wife regretted having kids. I told her fine. Go live your best life. She was upset when she got neither child support nor spousal support. Why she would think you would get child support without having custody of the kids is mind boggling. Some people just dont think. But having kids was one of the greatest things I have done. Never regretted it. Even when my oldest totaled my truck.

  48. I had a South Korean friend in high school. I never met her Dad. He worked for a large car company and had originally been transferred to the US. They then transferred him to Brazil, but he didn’t want to uproot the family again, so they lived in different countries and he would fly in. Her mom was a stay-at-home mom. The house was kept immaculately. They were so cleanly that my friend was required to shower twice daily. The mom was kept very busy taking 3 kids to a variety of different activities, but especially cram school type things as there was massive academic pressure from their culture. Both of her siblings graduated valedictorian of their classes. My friend always felt like a failure as she was only salutatorian of our class. She said her parents didn’t really want her as they wanted 1 girl and 1 boy, but she was the second daughter before they got a boy. It was kind of sad, but she was such a sweet girl. None of those 3 kids have gotten married or had kids to my knowledge.
