As someone who worked in TV development and left because it is run by soul sucking ghouls, I can almost assure you the reason the exposition is so repetitive and ineloquent and the characters are lacking flaws and are flat, is because some dumb executives didn’t understand what they were reading when they got the first draft scripts because they didn’t do their homework by watching the original series and won’t let the creatives cook. In notes sessions, they probably asked a bunch of questions (questions that get answered in time) and wanted to sound smart and like they had good notes so they told the writers to answer them sooner. I’d say you’d be shocked at the lack of media literacy in those rooms, but studios and networks keep churning out shows and movies that are like this, so you already know. The writers strike showed us the state of the industry and how little higher ups value the work of creatives.

It's so fun at the beginning, everyone is excited, feels like anything could happen. And then you get to the 18 hour mark and start asking yourself questions like "Is this worth it? Is anyone ever going to know that this event took place? Is Wendy's open yet? Does Wendy's make breakfast food?"   260. I work in the dubbing industry and I’ve been noticing this problem for the past year or so. For example, every time we have a new show, we start our dubbing process as usual and more often then not, it’s all over the place. We receive multiple new re-shot versions along the way, no one at the production company seems to be sure which version is the right one, the order of episodes, and there are a lot of continuity errors that WE sometimes let them know of. It is wild! It disrupts the whole chain, makes everyone in post work long hours to fix the problem and ends up costing them so much money because they have to pay the reshoots, post-production and if they are dubbing or subtitling in multiple languages, all of that is considered as extra. They end up spending much more money than if they had just let writers do their jobs in the first place. Never fix it in post, guys ;)

I swear to god watching your stream attempts was like watching my streams over the past couple months, from talking with a muted mic, to the sound levels, to the addition of scenes and stuff. The part about feeling like you need to constantly be energized or active is so true as well. Streaming on the other hand, my god if I am not playing the game and doing good it can be so stressful even when nobody is looking.   579. AMAZING - "Greed" was the first game show I worked on and Curtis's first appearance was during one of the first tapings we did. I remember him stepping onto the stage, wondering...who is this guy? Needless to say, his run with his team on the show was legendary. People were going nuts in the studio...one of those great memories I will never forget.

  591. Hey drew, I'm literally a closed caption writer. We do the closed caption before it airs. We take about 2 times the air time to make the captions. If the show is 45 minutes, it would take us 90 just to write it. Then someone else attaches the writing to certain timestamps in the video. I fucking hate it.

I always had a theory that Kenobi was originally a movie script that was stretched to be a movie, and if you took it and cut it down you could actually make a decent movie out of it. The worst part about Kenobi is that the parts that suck just didn't need to be there at all. If you took them out and didn't even replace them, it would be better as a whole. Ahsoka is fine but as you say, far from the masterclass in storytelling that is Andor. Andor is better than any other Star Wars property released since the sequels, and honestly it probably trumps everything before it too. It's exactly what I've been asking for all this time, which you summed up PERFECTLY: New Characters, Familiar Setting. This video is fantastic. It not only explains how I thought and felt about the shows, it goes further to explain WHY I felt that way, much of which I wouldn't have been able to identify or communicate myself. I will use this video as a "This is exactly how I feel, watch this and you know what I think" whenever someone asks me about the star wars shows from now on.
