  6. I'd argue that Moscow(the city) would be the absolute last place to feel issues from the sanctions, and it is massively overrepresented in narratives of Russia's resilience. We don't hear much of the villages whose entire male populations are drafted to fight the war. Or from the factories and drilling fields that are suffering the most from the downturn. But they are the backbone of Russian industry, and ultimately the deciding factor for Russia's ability to continue waging war. They are doing their best to ensure that is is their children who pay the price of this war, but even that is slowly failing.

  10. Great video as always. China and India will never allow it. Both have significant influence on Russia. China would never want Taiwan, South Korea and Japan get an excuse to go nuclear. India would not want to face possibility of secondary sanctions for buying russian Petroleum products from US, EU and other non Nuclear states. From a military stand point NATO could enact a marintime blocade on Russia in the Baltic sea without much issues strangling Russia without ever attacking the Russian mainland.

  14. Actually, the floods of 2021 were the worst in 20 years. But the economy was more resilient with the oil funds. Surprisingly, the capital was spared because they had invested a few years earlier in a canal to drain large amounts of water away from the city. That's where a large chunk of the oil funds will go, to climate adaptation. Also, glad Guyana got featured I watch this channel often. Cheers from Guyana🇬🇾. 🥂🥂

  16. I think there are two main factors: 1. Afghanistan and Iraq wars. The US could interfere wth many conflicts and probably would had these two conflicts not been so messy and painful. 2. Proliferation of military capabilities and technologies. It's just easier nowadays for any random milita group or non-state actor or whoever to get their hands on weapons. Iran will fund it. Russia could fund it. Drug money could fund it. It's just easier than it used to be, more people are in positions to conduct military operations than before.

  24. Thank you for this excellent analysis. It would be grand if Turkey could move back to being more of a republic for them and for the world. Autocracy likes to appear strong and decisive, but such governments are always run by weak minds and often have more problems making decisions than the public realizes. Ironically, Turkey could be a far greater power if it could be ruled by accountable republican government. It is a great shame how Erdogan has mismanaged domestic affairs and Turkey has been set back a decade or more behind countries they must compete with regularly. Dictators seldom care to understand economics or how leaders that do not understand such will always be weak because of it. 😊

  25. Great video as always! Especially interesting as a German myself. I can honestly only agree with your point of a missing German geopolitical strategy under Merkel. Those 16 years were a time of prosperity and growth in Germany. No real problems (except maybe 2015: the migrant crisis) and massive profits for our industry. But the complete dependency on Russian gas and trade with China was only driven by maximum profits not a political strategy. This was always alarming and now we harvest the consequences. But strangly there are way worse problems facing my nation in my opinion: - The rapidly aging population in Germany will lead to a exodus of highly trained work force in the next 10 years. The "Baby-Boomer"-generation can't be replaced with our low birth rate. We need way more children or more qualified migrants to bolster our workforce. Otherwise we will shrink like Japan. - The energy politics under Merkel were a mess. We closed down most of our nuclear power plants since Fukushima happend. To replace them we started to repower coal instead of investing in a green and self-sufficient german energy sector. Massive blunder! - Our education system is underfunded and generally in a horrible state. Under Merkel there was always the financial policy of the "schwarze Null" (black zero). This meant under no circumstances additional debt for the nation. Which lead to a degrading infrastructure and understaffed schools etc. - There is a clear crack between West and East Germany (former BRD and DDR) in a political sense. In East Germany the far right party AFD is on the brink of winning it's first local state election. The polls show support between 20 - 28 % in East Germany right now, which would certainly win them a state election in Brandenburg, Sachsen, Thüringen etc. Even after more than 30 years of reunification in Germany many people still have a border wall in their heads. - The Bundeswehr was neglected since the fall of the Soviet Union. To the point that it couldn't possibly defend Germany. We need a rapid rearmament to secure our country and be taken seriously on the world stage. - German bureaucracy is notorious slow and honestly just a shame for this country. They still use fax machines and paper files like we are in the fcking 90s. So in conclusion Germany is a country with many problems but still a industrial powerhouse. A country which needs more energy autocracy, better infrastructure and way more funding of it's educational system. A country which is beginning to rearm itself and especially in East Germany (but not only there) has a political right leaning population, which are questioning the democratic system in general. If this all sounds familiar to you... well it kinda is. Only one real crisis (for example a winter without heating) away of saying: "Ah shit, here we go again". Sleep well tonight.

  34. Great video, hopefully part 3 addresses the biggest elephant in the room which is nuclear weapons. In the event of a break up some of those states will have access to nuclear site’s weapons. Is complicated to know exactly how much each region has in terms of weapons given is a state secret regardless of how much some of it is shared with the USA.

In 1978, the Argentinian military junta wanted to annex the Chilean part of Tierra de Fuego... in 22 of December of that year, they ALMOST invaded, but the operation was aborted 1 hour before the invasion after a telephone call of the Pope John Paul II.   47. Some errors. First, the dependence of Estonia on Russia is mostly due to natural gas and oil. It will remain, tunnel or no tunnel. Rest of Russian imports are insignificant. Secondly, you cannot just drive through Russia as you need a visa and it's both relatively expensive (for transit) and takes very long. I have not heard of anyone doing this. People with seasickness would take the 30 minute flight instead.

  49. 7:38 Those tunnels (sarcastically dubbed "the Gaza Metro") is where Hamas members and their families take shelter during Israeli airstrikes while the civilian population is left to fend for themselves. Civilians are not allowed into the tunnels, unless they bribe Hamas. I wonder if this is also where some of the foreign hostages are being kept.
