Today, I read an article about an incident in South Korea where a woman fainted on a subway, and none of the men present helped her. It's important to note that most of these men had undergone mandatory military training, which includes first aid, yet they did not assist. When asked why, they explained that they feared being accused of sexual harassment. The article cited an example where a woman was about to fall, and as she leaned back, a man grabbed her waist to stop her from falling. She accused him of harassment, and although he was innocent, he faced an investigation because he was a government worker. I completely understand.
Something similar happened when I was in university. My male professor wanted to talk to me about my grade, and I agreed. He was concerned about my math grade because, throughout the semester, he noticed a sudden decline in my understanding of a particular concept. He asked me to stay during his office hours so he could help me, and I completely agreed because I wanted to pass. However, one of my female classmates reported him for sexually harassing me, even though I never mentioned anything to her. My poor professor was investigated, and he later told me he couldn’t help me anymore because he didn’t want any trouble. When I asked the girl why she reported him, she said it was because she believed he had bad intentions for wanting to help me so much. It's so sad because these kinds of accusations over simple things like a compliment end up invalidating real victims
