I once had dinner in a tent in outer Mongolia, where they displayed a portrait of Genghis Khan. Mare's milk, rice wine and goat meat. We sang and drank rice wine from a bowl, what I did not know is that it was a custom to keep filling the bowl until the song ended, I got very drunk. The women's faces turned red like tomatoes when you spoke to them.

@ADayInHistoryOfficial Thank you for explaining that. That's appalling of Youtube. Thank you for providing the important truth despite needing to title it inappropriately for it to been seen.

Captain James Riley wrote an incredible story of survival called Skeletons on the Zahara. He was ship wrecked and against all odds survived along with 6 of his crew members. Gives great historical context of the Sahara slave trade in 1816.

You mention in your video that Barbery Pirates kept clear of European coastline when in fact they raided Cornwall in England many times plus further up the English Chanel including the French coast Holland Norway as far as Iceland. My wife had a Great Great Great Grandmother who was taken in 1842 from Cornwall as a 21-year-old girl in a raid and sold as a concubine in Tangiers she was kept as a slave until bought by the Vatican in 1846 she had been made pregnant three times (Raped) she returned home Brocken and ill she died in 1848, 27 years old, she did get married and had a daughter a distant relative of my wife. She was quite shocked when she found out.

@ADayInHistoryOfficial That sucks. Youtube also doesn't recommend videos that are demonetized. So many creators face this problem. Thank you for bringing to light these lesser known topics.

We appreciate the fact you’ve taken the time and effort to make videos like these for us. May God bless you.

In a society that is trying to make people forget these and other similar history events I am very grateful to you for making this so some will remember!

Fun fact: There is a movie about the last Tsar and the fall of the Russian Empire called "Nicholas and Alexandra", which did a magnificent job showing the last years of the Romanov dynasty and how they went from living in enormous luxury and respect to living in misery and being mistreated by those who once were their commoners. The final scene where the family is executed is really terrifying and leaves you completely shattered.

The song that Suchomel mentions was not sang by the camp-guards as you explained it. It was sang by the inmates (and had to be sang everyday in the morning and in the evening), that's a huge difference. New inmates had to learn the song from day 1 even though it is in german language.

You should do a video about the Northeast trades, the United States Government broke every treaty they signed with the Native tribes EVERY SINGLE ONE !

Insane! Thank you A day in history for bringing us such topics from history.

I've been told by Scandinavians that Norway, Sweden, and Denmark are the Scandinavian countries. (Finland was a portion of Russia until well after the Viking age.) Also, Icelanders have told me that the old Norse language lives on in Icelandic. None of the North Sea European cultures consider Finland to be in their cultural group.

I actually have an 18th century commode right next to me. Currently it is serving as a bedside table but all the porcelain is still intact and perfectly capable of being returned to its original purpose should the need arise lol
81
You deserve way more 'likes'. Brilliant effort on the video all round.
78
Underrated channel, the quality is amazing! 🔥❤

I'm 31 and I thought I was done partying in my 20s but I'd like to party with Romans
67
Wife selling was a major plot point in Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge.

I believe that wider nostrils are typically found in areas of warmer climate, and narrow nostril types are found in cooler climates. The reason being that the narrow noses are better at retaining the warm and humid air created by the body.

He sounds like quite a man I believe the most important thing that he could have done was the University's the books of knowledge cuz things like that live on and on overtime buildings crumble and civilizations even cease but knowledge hopefully we'll keep growing

This channel is so going to blow up, the content is super!

A little discussed, yet absolutely crucial element of understanding historical societies & how the family interacted, accepted & intertwined with others through marriage. The structure of the State is inherently based on the structure of the family. I'd love to see a paper going into this topic if anyone knows of any. Love your channel! I get so bored of everyone covering the Punic wars, Alexander's conquest, Caesars glory lol they've all been done 100 times just on YouTube. I crave the little things that show how people lived, loved & died. Thanks for breaking the mold!

This is what happens when violent sociopaths are given power.

More videos about mesoamerican history should come

Man, Seneca and Nero texting each other. Those Romans were well ahead of their time.

The unspeakable things Genghis Khan did to his enemies. Me: LIKED & SUBSCRIBED!
37
This is indeed a very informative channel, very good videos. I subscribed a couple of months ago, I hope you get many more subscribers, you deserve it. PS. I took the liberty of recommending you to the toldinstone channel, when he asked about other channels.
35
love your videos from india

The eunuchs in ancient China are a fascinating topic, one often covered in dramas and action tv series on Chinese broadcasting. Chinese series, many of which have English subtitles, can be quite good fun to watch because as in American soap operas the storylines go on literally for years lol.
34
Very interesting and informative. Always an eye opening experience watching these videos. Thank you form South Africa

Great channel, glad YouTube recommended it. Love the humor as well. Never loose that. "Potatoes don't scream as much" Lucky for us, otherwise would never peal a potato again. I have 2 ready for tomorrows flaying :) They are patiently waiting for their sealed faith.
29
Interesting that ancient Greeks used tablets just like we do in the modern world 🌎

Well the title pharaoh as a metonym for the Egyptian ruler was apparently not used until the 19th dynasty, over two millennia into the history of the state, but in principle yes, they started using it retroactively as well and the forms and type of kingship were evolving in a very consistent way all that time, so the definition largely holds. Imagine if the US lasts a few more centuries and the chief executive is referred to officially as Whitehouse, and retroactively George Washington is called the First Whitehouse of the US.
24
Wow, I'm glad I got to be here early bc your channel needs to BLOW UP. Your voice is on point, your graphics are great and I love your intro. Keep it up my friend!

As an Englishman and an old soldier, I have to say that Joan fought bravely and in no way deserved her awful end. Charles the V11 did not have one ounce of the courage that Joan had and totally abandoned her,I only hope that what he did,or rather did not do haunted him to his dying day and that he never ever had a good night's sleep because of his abandonment of Joan and if there is a heaven,I hope that Joan is there.

1:34 So, the Mexica people migrated into central Mexico in the 13th century ... with a TIE fighter? Amazing. 🤣
21
Love the content bro, but you got a lot of "unspeakable and diabolical" in your video titles lol
21
I just subscribed and may I say this channel is stupidly underrated.

The Empire has a long history.

Historical evidence from Egyptian texts, artworks and mummies suggests ancient Egypt was always ethnically diverse, so could not be classed as belonging to any one racial category. But it is worth noting that the skin-colour distinctions we have today didn’t exist in ancient Egypt. Instead, they simply classified themselves by the regions where they lived. Scholarly research suggests there were many different skin colours across Egypt, including what we now call white, brown and black. Much evidence shows how ancient Egypt was ruled and governed by various prominent black leaders. One is the powerful nobleman Maiherpri, who was alive during the reign of Thutmose IV. After his death, he was buried in the Valley of the Kings. We know of his skin colour from his mummy and from illustrated manuscripts, in which he appears darker skinned than the more widely circulated images of Egyptians.
