This is the diet I have, more or less, followed for the last four decades. I trained as an osteopath in the UK in the early-mid 1970s, but my great love - personally & professionally - was always nutrition. After reading Yudkin's book, "Pure White and Deadly," in my early clinical days, I was drawn away from the Ansel Keys theory relating to the evils of saturated fat, towards a low (or non) refined carb., whole food diet. As an osteopath I was also aware of the importance of gut health, and how life choices profoundly impact it. I'm now a 70 y o, have a BMI under 25, near perfect health, take no medication, walk kilometers every day and workout with resistance training 2 - 3 times a week. The tragedy is I live in a retirement complex surrounded by folk of a similar age, the great majority of whom are over weight, over medicated, overfed (in terms of carbs & empty calories), underfed (in terms of sound nutrition), underactive and in poor overall health. People ask me what my secret is. I tell them, but few listen! I heartily commend your recommendations, Tim. It is deeply gratifying to see more and more top health professionals embracing these things! Thank you. David (NZ).

Great to see this conversation happening, and I would hazard to guess more in-depth in what all children are taught in schools, irrespective of it affecting half the population! Would love to see a follow up discussing endo and PCOS and microbiom when that research is completed: I have severe endo and have noticed a huge difference since starting a gut friendly diet-not so much for pain or tiredness, but definitely for low immunity around my period. Previously I would catch anything going the week up to my period, but since the diet change I still get endo symptoms, but they have lasted less long, and I am not getting sick on top of the endo, including colds, flus, infections. I also have ovarian cysts so perhaps this has played a role in my immune system being so affected by the endo, but good guy health seems to me to be the key to managing my endo. I wish I had learned about it 15years ago when I was diagnosed!

Hi Tim and team. Thanks for this special report, it's great that you have the responsiveness and flexibility to do this when not planned in. I can vouch for new wave, and high transmissibility....five of our family have it, caused by a cascade effect from one family member catching it, giving it to another, that person in contact another who caught it etc. It is interesting to me that I didn't think I had it until I tested positive, but there were with all of us, some early signs (which didn't seem like classic symptoms) that are indicative of its onset, and it's this onset and progression that I hadn't realised about, I was expecting the full symptoms from the get go. It started off Day 1 with feeling a bit light headed and not with it. Then it goes into tiredness as well about a day later, then a strange tickling sensation at back of nose and a slight sore throat. These I can get at any time, thought not symptoms of COVID as not extreme, and I tested negative Day 2 same. On day 3, bang. The full symptoms, fever, headache, sore throat, tight chest, fatigue. Tested positive. This followed day 4 & 5 by full on sneezing, coughing, runny nose, headache still continues, and tiredness. Day 6, things starting to dry out.....cough drier etc. Symptoms start to ease. We all have a different immune response but we five all followed the same trajectory, different degrees of severity. All have been vaccinated.

I can vouch for walking . It helped me leave thoughts of cancer at home. Afternoon walks with my Collie/Shepherd Buddy, distracted me from thinking about the pain in my feet, and tingling hands. Herding and keeping me on our gradually expanding course, along tree-lined urban streets, down winding paths, until gradually, I was strong enough to take the ravine steps all in one go, before resting, taking in the river view. Following my instincts, and my dear Buddy, meant never walking alone, twenty-six years ago.

Thank you Tim and team Zoe for giving us the opportunity to participate and providing us with the opportunity to daily report symptoms, donate, sign up to the vaccine register and feel that in some way we were helping the ‘ science’ (and therefore giving us a sense of worth at a time when we felt things were getting out of control). Happy New Year to you all and I look forward to the next chapter when we can all help with vaccine reporting.
I am somewhat confused about the Astra Zeneca 1/2 dose then full dose being of better efficacy than full dose, full dose .......then UK government opts for full dose, full dose. Unfortunately there have been some disappointing options taken by our government and I hope to god that this is not yet another because this is completely outside of my control. 🤔 for example I took to wearing a face-mask, whilst we were still being told, it wouldn’t help. Stayed away from public areas, etc when restrictions were eased, but I have no control over what dose vaccine I will be given (however, I won’t refuse any vaccine). Thank you again 👍🌟☮️ grand job, I hope that you are all proud of your achievements 😉

Interesting report this week Professor Spector,,thank you - on both Covid like symptoms and gut health. Advice noted regarding Omicrom - always good to get a factual bulletin from data, rather than mixed messages found in the media. And regarding gut health - it is amazing we have this study opportunity, a platform to monitor symptoms, as so many suffer with some condition, and family backgrounds too. I am sure it will be a relief for many to see how a plant based/ fermented food diet can help relieve, or prevent many symptoms. I pray a further financial source of support out there will step forward,,even better if it is offered by the government, as preventative medicine will certainly help save the NHS a lot of income in the long run.
