Thank you. I hear so much of how grand and wonderful China's production and the rise in wealth and standards of living are. But the progress is at the price of stifling freedom and the right to dissent, and also by recruiting out of the countryside into factories far away, and thus breaking up traditional families and the resiliance of those ties.
Here at home, we are rushing into an oligarchic form of government and people no longer value the freedom they have and strong family ties. The American oligarchy is happy to feed off the pain of everyone else in the nation, to grab every last penny of everything of any value.
This video is prescient. Listen to the economists. We here in the United States still have a very short window to make changes. But if we don't, the climate will punish us, other nations will punish us and our own oligarchy will come down hard on us and we will lose our beloved freedoms guaranteed in the First Ammendment and the Bill of Rights. Our Constitution is a living and vital document. We must preserve it, and cherish it for without it we are each no more than vassals to wealthy oligarchs. And worse, with Trump at the head of our government, we may end up with a strongman state that is a satellite of Putin's undemocratic Russia. I see such strife coming at my country, my people, my children and grandchildren. It worries me.
We are in danger, and we will pay for our willful blindness to the coming disruptions in our economy and our politics. China is grabbing islands, and building military bases upon them. Russia is grabbing land from their neighbors by force and that is the first time borders have changed in Europe by force and military intervention since WWII . And we are becoming a poorer society except for the extremely wealthy who own everything while the rest of us own less and less every year.

It is written, "For the LOVE of money is the root of ALL evil." There's this saying, "Guns don't kill people. People kill people." Well, the ONLY use for a gun is to KILL. Be it someone or something. It still has only ONE USE, and that is to KILL. We must be careful for whom we elect into office. If they are for bombing countries in the name of "democracy" and "human rights violations", they are murdering and we are indirectly murderers too for electing them. United States and other countries, continue to bomb countries that ARE NOT BOMBING us and/or them. Yet, the US and other countries want to put in laws to keep the "foreign immigrants" from coming into our/their countries. Well, if it wasn't for the destabilizing of their country, by our countries, with weapons and bombs that KILL, they would not be uprooted and have to go seeking shelter elsewhere. Now, regarding this double minded, two faced, flip flop, hypocritical person that CARES SOOOO much about killing babies. Maybe he should STOP taking money from the NRA and lobbyists who DON'T want gun reform and make, participate, and/or advocate for a law, making it HARDER to get any type of weapon that can kill your babies, even if they are in high school, and/or college. You can't have it both ways. Either you are for killing or you are against it, no matter what type of killing it is. For a person that says he is a "Christian" or a "Roman Catholic", let's see, how many killings have occurred throughout history in the name of religion, especially Christian Catholicism and Islam?!? Too many to count, that's how many. Killing, killing, killing all around and this person wants to pick and choose which killing is more important. The one for religion, the one in the foreign country, the one for democracy, the one in your belly, the one in the dance club, the one in the street, the one in the mall, the one in the church, the one in the neighborhood, the one in the house, the one in the restaurant, the one in the daycare, or the one in the schools?!? People, STOP having SHORT MEMORIES. REMEMBER, what these politicians say and how they act when it's time for reelection. WE CAN STOP the madness, by putting someone in their place who gives a damn!!!!!!!!!! ENOUGH SAID!!!!!!!!

It's great that you're touching on this subject, but you need to specify that when you talk about those killed in US wars that you're only talking about US soldiers killed. As large as those numbers are, if you included the true victims of those wars, the targets of US bombs (in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc), the number would run into the multiple millions (2-3 million in Vietnam, not including the 1 million apiece in neighboring Cambodia and Laos; at least 1 million in Korea; 250,000 from the US's 1991 attack on Iraq, plus at least a million from 1990s US-pushed sanctions and later 1990s bombings; at least 1.3 million from the US's 2003-and-ongoing attack on Iraq; multiple tens of thousands from the US's ongoing attack on Afghanistan; etc, etc). And that's not to even mention the numerous undeclared wars against other countries that the US has engaged in (Nicaragua, Syria, etc, etc), which would add tens of thousands more.

I am not from your country, but I follow your politics a fair deal since Trump was elected. I'm not a fan of Trump it is fair to say. But my point is not about him. I mention him only for context, because of the hearings about him conducted by Elijah Cummings. I have no regard for the former but Elijah, to me, had dignity.
He seemed like a good man to me. I recall him defending a colleague (in the house not the party), who was a Republican, against a charge of racism. To my mind, his colleague had behaved poorly (the charge may have been fair) but Elijah valued his friendship with the man above all other consideration and took account of his colleagues character as a whole as he saw it. He seemed to want everyone to have fair hearing.
True, I never knew they guy, but the way he spoke and sounded has convinced me that, regardless of your politics, that this was a sincere, well intentioned man, who tried his best to better the lot of others. That makes him one of the good folk by my way of thinking.
I am not religious, but Rest in Peace Elijah Cummings.
You were one of the good ones.

We can see the high level of humidity forming this year already. If I’m correct, this year we’ll see a high level of storms and by the fall together with the inflation, we will be drowning in states of emergencies, political subpoenas, calls for impeachment, new revelations on the degree of lawlessness of the Trumps and his efforts for war, etc.
It’s not only the CO2, these corporations have depleted our soil of nutrients, polluted our oceans, and rivers all over the planet, and created all kinds of toxicity in our food, in our air, and everything these companies touch or create. Life on earth is no longer sustainable, not because of over population but because of what these corporations do and how they control us and our governments.

Here in Japan, we made sure to buy a lot of toilet paper, noodles, brown rice, onions, potatoes, froze plenty of meat, cleaning gear, masks, and snacks just in case people panic and clear out the supermarkets. If nothing happens, at least we’ll have some goodies awhile.

What is the psychology of the billionaire class? Why is the billionaire class so bad? The psychology is authoritarian; and there are so bad because they pathologically defend an idiosyncratic anthropocentric ideological definition of economic liberty that serves the unquantifiable insatiable instincts and psychology of males in abstraction from the reality of causing social and environmental catastrophe. Consider firstly that billionaires are ubiquitously socially and/or economically conservative, spanning Theo-conservative, Neo-conservative, and economic libertarian. From there you can identify psychology that is common to all of these ideologies, which is authoritarian psychology.
Billionaires have strong authoritarian psychology, which is psychology that is associated with physical and structural violence evolved in response to growth-model church-state tribalism, and is primarily but not exclusively manifest in males. These characteristics include racism and xenophobia; national exceptionalism and ultra-nationalism; obsession with security, defense, and protectionism; fundamentalist religion and a single favored national religion; sexism, misogyny, and controlling female reproduction; quick to violent rhetoric, believing they can win any fight, “one-ups-man-ship”; selfishness, ultra-competitiveness, believing winning is everything, and solving problems quickly with violence; sensitivity to fairness, pulling ones weight, and being antagonistic to slacking; judgmental and policing of others; being prosecutorial of justice and revenge; holding grudges and maintaining blood-feuds, prideful of revenge and preferring severe punishments.
Every authoritarian tyrant on earth will grind populations into the ground serving these unquantifiable insatiable instincts through capitalism, which competitive winner-take-all paradigm cultivates and rewards hyper-individualism, sociopathy, psychopathy, narcissism and malignant narcissism, megalomania, and social Darwinism, even sadism, all qualified as liberty, freedom, godliness, natural law, and patriotism, even national security. The deep-state, and their synthesis with the tech billionaire mainstream media propaganda and surveillance state, is composed of individuals that prioritize the agenda of maintaining hegemony in global military dominance; domestic surveillance security; strategic oil reserves for a mechanized military, energy infrastructure, and transportation infrastructure required to mobilize for war; hegemony in the Petro dollar and capital markets; and judging by Mike Pompeo and John Bolton, hegemony in facilitating fundamentalist evangelical biblical prophecy.
Altogether, the socially and economically conservative billionaires affect a terrible agenda on populations and the environment through terrible fundamentalist secular and religious ideologies, and do so with terrible pathologies, and with terrible authoritarian psychology. Billionaires are terrorists, and their neoliberal laissez faire market fundamentalism and trickle-down Reaganism that they have been running for four decades suits them just fine, regardless that this exponential disparity in wealth has vastly contributed to climate change and industrial pollution, destroyed the middle class, corrupted all three branches of government and turned a secular democracy into Theo-conservative fascism, and caused a litany of socio-economic and health epidemics, including the pandemonium of global bipartisan populist rebellion.
Billionaires are pathological and psychotic; they are corporately amoral and socially and economically immoral; they have performed fascist symbiosis with the authoritarian state to enable and protect themselves; they all have cynical escape plans to New Zealand; and have demonstrated utter belligerence and vindictiveness in response to the overwhelming social and environmental need to change. Billionaires - like all terrorists - are going to go down fighting.

I do partime work in an off shore pharmacy, (UK)we buy wholesale, and supply ships and oil Riggs. I see the prices of the drugs, all the normal generic stuff aspirin, paracetamol, costs pennies 60-90pence.
Anti biotics, inhalers, stomach settlers cost a few pounds, and anything more specific costs about £10.00, Even morphine cost about £10-20 depending on the dosage. It’s only when we get to the real specialised stuff that we have to pay higher prices, but that makes sense, the less that a product is used, the higher the prices go.
What I have noticed, the prices have been rising. I suspect that we are small fry compared to the likes of the general public/ insurance and it’s only a matter of time before our suppliers start getting hit by the big pharma!

Wages have gone up, Sweden now pays $22/hour for fast food and retail, in fact it's considered a living wage and no one would pay less as per very strong Unions. The max tax in Sweden is abt 54% today (it used to be 89 back in the 70-80's) according to my brother who works there as an accountant for people with small businesses, but just as here there are deductions. In Denmark it's 64%. Don't know about Norway, can be googled.Yes the VAT tax (moms) is 26% on all goods and services and is included in the price you pay for those.I paid 31% as a Kindergarten Teacher and later Illustrator in Stockholm, the same % here in NYC, big difference in Sweden I got health care, 5 weeks paid vacation, Schooling, 16 month maternity leave, low fee daycare, sick leave and on and on. I actually managed to have a savings account and lived well there. Can't say the same about the US! And here's a tidbit, according to Nordstjernan (Swedish/American Newspaper) last Spring, every 10th Scandinavian is now a Millionaire, in US $!!! In spite of the taxes! Stockholm is now the 2nd largest Billion$ Hub for Tech after Silicon Valley! PS Sweden is called a Capitalist Welfare State by economists. But it was all built up by Social Democracy.

I am getting so sick of millennials and their attitude.
Always walking around like they rent the place.
A blonde went into a church and asked the minister, “How much does it cost to rent a church singing group?”
He said, “Do you mean a choir?”
She said, “Fine… How much does it cost to acquire a church singing group?”
A sketchy looking guy rented six smoke machines from my shop, so I called the cops.
He must be part of some extreme mist group.
How many ants does it take to rent a house?
Tenants.
A husband always leaves his money in the attic.
His wife gets curious one day and asks why he leaves his money in the attic.
The husband replies, “So I can use it to pay rent in heaven.”
A few years later the husband dies and the wife goes upstairs to see if the money is gone, and sure enough the money is still where he left it.
The wife says to herself, “I knew he should have put it in the basement.”
I tried renting a bounce house yesterday.
The cost was twice as much as last year.
That’s inflation for you!
My neighbour and I became good friends, so we decided to rent a space together to park our cars.
We have a lot in common.
I went into this video shop, and the man asked if I’d like to rent Batman Forever.
I said, “No, just for the night.”
Our landlord knocked on our door today and said that if we didn’t pay rent, they’d turn off the heater tomorrow.
It was our last warming.
The world’s largest bounce house is now touring the U.S.A.
At 10,000 square feet, the house is large enough to live in.
The rent is pretty expensive but that’s mostly due to inflation.
I keep asking my flatmate to pay his rent.
And he keeps turning sideways to avoid me.
My woodwind instrument couldn’t afford to pay the rent.
Now it’s a Hoboe.
Being uncomfortable with any physical contact, I decided to rent the book “How to Hug” from the library.
Turns out it was volume 6 of an old encyclopedia.
Why couldn’t the art forger pay his rent?
Because he didn’t make any Monet.
A hippie gets 3 months late on rent so his landlord knocks on his door to let him know he’s being evicted.
He opens the door and tells him, “Namaste.”
I rented a bulldozer to get rid of all the small bumps and hills in my garden.
When I was done, it was even worse then before.
I can’t even…
Why do landlords like to rent their storefronts to Chinese restaurants?
Because they’re lo mein tenants.
If money can’t buy you true happiness,
I guess you’ll just have to rent it.

Thanks for the video, Thom.
I had a feeling you had an accurate take on the corruption in America's electoral system.
So, in your estimation, considering that the Republicans have been successful in dismantling & reconfiguring the Constitution in their favor, is it possible to salvage anything from the 2020 election, or will the corporate coup d'etat of the American democracy be completed.... as expected?
The world watched Hong Kong revolt & stand up for their rights, civil liberties & sovereignty for weeks - maybe the footage wasn't aired in the US...?
They understood what was on the line, when Beijing tried to 'overstep' into Hong Kong.
In America.... Crickets.
"Give me a minute, I've got to grab another hoagie, & a hoho."
Democracy dies in America with a whimper.
The protectionism of America's 'elitist' economy & the fossil fuels corporations is complete.
Global heating will rage on - unchecked, & not even litigation can stop it now.
How does anyone litigate, when the corporations own all elements of "the people's" government.
The biggest problem with Neo-Conservatism is - completely - overlooked....
An infinitely expansionary economy is "impossible" in a world with finite resources - including, clean air & water.
Our greedy, consuming ways is about to be our undoing.
Perfect.... Poetic, really.
Karma.... Cause & Effect.

capitalism is just a repackaging of feudalism and vice versa. there's actually no REAL difference between the 2. they both enslave the people for the benefit of the elite. and the sooner we do away with and reject silly, irrelevant distinctions and look at the big picture the sooner we'll SEE and UNDERSTAND the truth. civilization brought us the elite, fascism, authoritarianism, greed, corruption, slavery, poverty, prejudice, war AND capitalism. civilization was an elitist invention designed to solidify, enforce and perpetuate elitist power and control over humanity. and its done just that over the last 6000 years!

Per The New York Post:
Rep. Nancy Mace splits with fiancé, ‘frequently’ discussed her sex life in office.
Rep. Nancy Mace frequently
talked about her sex life in front of junior staffers in her Capitol office while dating her now ex-fiancé, according to a report.
“She frequently made sexual references in the office and discussed things that were not appropriate in a work environment,” a former senior staffer for the South Carolina Republican told the Daily Mail.
If Mace was subjecting her staff to tales of her bedroom antics, the 46-year-old congresswoman could face a House Ethics Committee investigation if one of her aides were to file a complaint with the panel.
In one uncomfortable moment in July, she suggested that she was nearly late to former GOP presidential candidate Tim Scott‘s prayer breakfast because Bryant wanted to get intimate.
“When I woke up this morning at seven, I was getting picked up at 7:45.
Patrick, my fiancé, tried to pull me by my waist over this morning in bed and I was like, ‘No, baby, we don’t got time for that this morning. I got to get to the prayer breakfast and I got to be on time.’
(Oh Lord. The sex obsessed Republicans. If Mace talked like that in a normal place of employment, she would get fired for sexual harassment.)

I'm with Thom. Call me naïve, but I thought it was Olympia job to enforce the law, and expect law enforcement officers, Sheriff, City police, etc. to follow the law, and thus serve and protect its citizens. And that if the police officers refuse to comply for any reason whatsoever, then Olympia has a job to do to fire them from their position, and have their badges removed, their guns confiscated, their licenses (if such things even apply) revoked, and to make sure they don't ever serve in law enforcement again.

Thom Hartmann’s segment with Frank Schaeffer might be two years old, but is just as applicable, right now. All that has changed, far as I can see, is that that scam-artist Paula White has been added to the mix. Oh, and speaking of Florida, which is now the profitable activities center for the Seventh Day Adventists, let’s remember the multiply deferred and “revised” End-Time “prophesies” those cultists rode their horse in on, back in 1880s Upstate New York. They are doing extremely well financially, thank you, with their “diversification” into health-care: AdventHealth. Thing is, their Tampa pharmacology boss and his crew are on the lam, because their “get-patients-addicted” scam with BigPharma was exposed!
