When I was 4 years old: Mom, Dad, Brother, Sister, me, the dog, and everything we owned traveled the country in a VW Bug in the 1960’s. Happiest time on our lives, I do believe. We camped by the side of the road. I slept in the back. I have so many wonderful memories of that time that I carried all my life. It taught me courage, curiosity, & love of diversity. There are always kids to play with every where you stop! When Dad finally found a city he liked and we moved out of the car, I cried! I loved my car! Sixty years later, I became a Nomad. Back to my roots! That kid will be FINE!

About 30 years ago, we lived in a small town.. under 10k. We had a lovely little church, and one day a lady approached our Pastor, saying she lived alone in her vehicle, and would she be allowed to park and stay in the back corner behind the church, away from the roadway. In exchange she would do anything including gardening, keeping the yard clean, and also would help in keeping the church clean. She was a quiet lady, stayed to herself, and in exchange for her not having to pay any costs, not only was able to keep her electronics charged, and having access to water and a bathroom, but she worked hard and made sure that the church and church yard were kept clean. This can be an idea for others in their van life, to stay out of the cities, and live a quiet and safe life.
