I'm in Canada. Last year, we found out my mother had late-stage lung cancer. She had radiation treatment to prolong her life, oxygen machine at home, wheelchair, nurse visits twice a week, and end-of-life procedure after seven months. It cost us ZERO dollars! Sure, our healthcare system could improve, but Americans trashing our system do so because they have no idea what they're talking about. I recently had an ultrasound done, again, zero cost, and I had to wait two days to see a doctor and two weeks for an ultrasound appointment. At least it was all free (paid by my taxes, I mean)

As one of the thousands of pilots who took an early retirement/buyout from a major airline in 2020, I feel this video is on point. I can go on a diatribe that would be counterproductive but I'll say this. The pilot shortage for the 2020's was identified at least a decade ago. The corporate culture of many major airlines was, and is, to pay overtime for the pilots willing to do so (a vast MINORITY) at the cost of not staffing an airline properly. The airline unions are constantly trying to balance this equation of the few "whores" vs. the majority who are much more concerned about a good quality of life. Then, to save your ass, tell the public every additional cost item from excess baggage to fuel increases are "out of their control" and add those incremental costs to the price of a ticket.
This is indicative of the current corporate culture for labor in the entire US....pay part time workers, with no benefits, overtime, but don't staff the business adequately for good customer service and certainly not ensure employees quality of life. THEN....as with Moderna's CEO as so brilliantly recently exposed by Sen Bernie Sanders, have the company board approve a 900+ MILLION (or choose your corporation and amount!) dollar golden parachute because he/she did such a great job.
Time for this country to rethink the essential benefits of union representation, corporate responsibility and true government oversight that targets gross avericiousness.

With all due respect to Joy Reid, she does NOT know what the fuck she is talking about with regard to the recent special election in Montana! As a Montanan who knew nothing about Quist, I was eager to find out what he stood for - especially compared to Greg Gianforte, who is a billionaire. Gianforte ran - and LOST - in the 2016 gubernatorial race in Montana. His number one rival/opponent was Steve Bullock, the incumbent, Democratic governor of Montana!
Quist did NOT run a good campaign - contrary to Bernie Sander's own statement that "Quist ran a good campaign". Quist did not run a campaign that even remotely resembled the kind of campaign Bernie ran in 2016. I am not sure why Bernie said he did run a good campaign or why Quist did not run one more like Bernie's. Whatever the case, this is an entirely different topic, worthy of full discussion apart from this one.
Quist's campaign was predominantly negative. It focused on Gianforte and how 'awful' he was as compared with himself. The only positive things that he included in any of his commercial advertisements were: 1) a promise that he would not institute a sales tax in Montana; 2) a commitment to keeping our public lands open to the public and; 3) a vague assurance that he would not support the 'healthcare' legislation recently passed by Congress and being considered in the Senate.
Quist also did what just about every Democrat running for office in Montana does. He showed his support for gun owners. The way he did this was cringe-worthy at best. Quist proudly showed himself carrying a rifle and took a shot at a computer that I believe was supposed to belong to Gianforte. WTF??
To me, this election offered further proof that a negative campaign is a LOSING campaign!! To be sure, Quist had to beat insurmountable odds to win. Gianforte was heavily favored to win this election. After all, Montana had voted in favor of Trump over Clinton by a spread of 21 points. As such, Quist had to run a nearly flawless campaign if he ever hoped to win the election. He did not come close to running a flawless campaign.
A final word for those people who have derided and chastised Montanans for electing a person into office who body-slammed a reporter (Yes, Chris Hayes, I am including you as one of the 'deriders') - let me make one thing perfectly clear! The body-slamming incident occurred on the eve of the election. By that time, more than two-thirds of Montanans had already submitted their ballots on it! If this had happened BEFORE most of us had already voted, I believe that Gianforte would have LOST!!

I watched this on TV and had to turn it off because I was screaming profanities at the screen. I am from Alberta, and Alberta Health Services has screwed up my paperwork for years, I've had a bad relationship with the bureaucracy, but I would never want a world where they weren't there for me, even with their flaws. The only bad parts of Canadian health care for me are the privatized parts that cost out of pocket as with a lot of dental and optometry and some prescriptions and hospital parking and such. Meghan McCain has taken my normally pacifist attitude and given me the desire to punch her right in her smug, ignorant, lying, over-privileged face. What a rotten, nasty, Yankee cunt. (I don't often use that word, but it fits in this situation.)

Your analysis is actually off a bit. It's not a matter of discrimination being prohibited because the people are born that way. It's a matter of a certain type of undue discrimination being so common that the government steps in to prohibit it because it harms the victims, the economy, possibly small business owners who don't want to discriminate (but may face a big boycott from bigots if they don't discriminate), and society in general. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in commerce and employment based upon religion, and religious beliefs aren't innate.
Similarly, "race" is innate, but engaging in an "interracial" relationship is not. Yet, the
statute prohibits such discrimination against interracial couples, too. And the scientific evidence suggests that sexual orientation is innate, but engaging in a same-sex relationship is not. Still, some jurisdictions prohibit such discrimination against same-sex couples. It should be prohibited at the federal level, and there's a valid legal argument that it already is (essentially, same-sex couples are covered by the prohibition against sex discrimination, just like interracial couples are covered by the prohibition against race discrimination). But the current SCOTUS would never accept that. It should be made clear by Congress, but Bernie Sanders is the only one I've heard bring it up.

If Cruz was SO heartbroken and devastated, about his sister's death as he tried to portray himself to be in that debate, then he should have done more to prevent overdoses; he should have stopped taking money from pharmaceuticals, urged prosecutors to indict so-called doctors for overprescribing these fatal drugs to increase their own profits, and worked to pass legislation to legalize weed.
Instead, he still takes money from big pharma, has done NOTHING to combat the opioid epidemic, and will NEVER support legalizing weed; he's nothing but an opportunist, a sellout, and will use tragedies to help only himself; even his only family isn't safe from this. I feel sorry for his sister as he could have done something to prevent more overdoses, and yet he continues to do nothing; once a scumbag always a scumbag.

Portuguese here: those proposals you said about teleworking, etc were made by PS (not by BE nor PCP) and the left parties agreed. What they did not agree on was about our national health system having exclusivety, meaning if you work for SNS you cannot work for a private hospital. PS was against it at the time. Also PS did not want to increase doctor's, nurse's and auxiliaries' salaries but the left block and communists did want. Also the communists wanted the minimum wage to be increased from 665 to 850 euros in 2022 but Costa said he would increase instead until 900ā¬ incrementally until 2026, so 705 in 2022, 755 in 2023, etc...
Also in the budget there is something to start implementing a 4 day workweek first as a trial then if it goes well as official policy.
And another law passed was about of you have a house in a city centre and just laying around empty to prop of prices, the municipality is now able to force you to put it on the market (to sell or rent) and to restore the house if it is run down and then put it on the market + 26000 homes for state-owned middle class affordable housing (like what Vienna is doing), as there is a huge affordable housing shortage here.
But yes, the party in general will probably move a bit to the right as Costa belongs to the right leaning part of the Socialist party, whereas his probable successor (Pedro Nuno Santos) is much more left-leaning.

Time and time again, for decades, the left or even just moderates, will instantly kick-out anyone who does the slightest thing wrong/questionable, when the right literally just... don't, ever. This self-inflicted double-standard only ever hurts us!
The right keep around and support known criminals, perverts, fraudsters, warcriminals etc. etc. etc. because they know that power is power no matter who has it so their own team benefits, or most often, that the media or the people at large won't even care or remember most breaking of rules/ethics/laws.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Can we please stop! It isn't noble to cut off your own hand because it may have offended yourself/someone, when your enemy uses their whole ugly mutated body to hurt you and others, time and time again!
OK, the metaphor is a mess, but y'all know what I mean lol

Michigan Resident here. I was originally going to vote Williamson in the primary as a vote of conscious, but I'm definitely going to vote Uncommitted instead. I love Williamson, but she doesn't have a chance, and voting for her won't have any effect. Voting uncommitted as a block will at least get to behave as a message. Now, there's a good chance nobody listens to the message, but at least it'll be there.
I will likely still vote Biden in the general against Trump if it comes down to that, but I stand by the Arab Americans in our state. Their disgust is warranted, and if they choose to not vote Biden in the general, I totally get it. If Biden loses Michigan, it'll be on Biden's administration, not on Michigan voters.

I LOVE Cardi B. I had no idea who she was until I recently stumbled onto an interview she did. Sheās completely honest and down to earth with zero grooming to sound and answer questions perfectly. Shes extremely smart and talks in a way thatās real and easy to understand. During the interview I saw she makes a point of discussing how poorly people are paid, how she will always remember never being paid over $300 bucks no matter how hard she worked at minimum wage jobs. She talked about how college is not designed for people like her, people who are trying to pull themselves from poverty. How in college, there wasnāt good, affordable transportation, no good affordable food, it made it extremely hard to continue going, the deck was stacked against someone like her, who was poor. How kids who are poor canāt even afford to eat in between classes, canāt afford to even get to the college. The interviewer said something like, āpeople shouldnāt judge you for being a stripper when you were younger, you were probably making that money to help your family.ā Cardi B. says...naw, I was making that money to help myself. I couldnāt live on minimum wage, no one can. Honest...it was awesome.

David, haven't you noticed, people like me never have a voice, I live in Alabama, we are the expendable people, we know it, Uniontown knows it, they dumped their coal ash in an open pit there, Anniston knows it, they dumped their PCB's in open ditches there, AfricaTown knows it, the propane pipeline there has been leaking for 10 years, Baldwin county knows it, they dump their nuke waste there, want to know who else noticed? BP, Monsanto, Raytheon, Boeing, Nissan, Toyota, they can do whatever they like here, and get away with it
Nobody gives a deep fried rat's ass about people here

Not a fan of Rubin at all, and you pointed out many of the reasons why. Dude acts like he brings on people equally from both sides but he clearly doesnāt and even when he brings on someone very Left wing he still encourages them to shit on SJWās. Laci Green is the perfect example...only wanted her to talk about how the FAR left smeared her and whatnot. Which he can get away with keeping the conversation there since sheās not really deep into policies like Kyle Kulinksi, Seder, and David are. He doesnāt want them on because they can give solid takedowns of the Right and explain the positives to policies like Single Payer, NN, regulating Wall Street, legalizing weed, imposing he estate tax, etc.
Iām also tried as hell of his whole āideasā, āopen dialogueā shtick. He talks so much about having these discussions but doesnāt actually contribute much to the discussion. Dodged questions about Trump throughout his Pakman interview, for example.

Totally agree that people will absolutely vote for politicians with whom they may disagree, just as long as they're perceived as honest and authentic. Por hemplor, Bernie Sanders in 2012 won his reelection with about 70% of the overall votes. Of these votes, about 25% were from conservatives, because they trust that Bernie will actually fight for what he says he believes in. Vermont was dotted with Bernie lawn signs planted right next to Romney signs, as Thom Hartmann likes to point out. We saw the same dynamic during Bernie's town hall meeting in West Virginia, where he got coal mining Trump voters to agree with him on single-payer, raising taxes on the rich, a living wage, and other policy positions that most Democrats tend to run away from, despite their being WILDLY popular across the political spectrum if you just frame the issues properly and honestly.
But most Dems today are spineless Koch-sucking tools for the establishment. They clearly prioritize legalized bribes from special interests over actually winning elections, otherwise they'd already have adopted Bernie's model for success by now.

In all the controversy surrounding these strikes, and others in the past, is the actual cost of each missile fired. From what I've read, Tomahawk missiles were used, each with a unit cost of almost US$500,000. Over 100 missiles were deployed, which means the cost of this strike was in the region of $50 million. That's a conservative estimate. Just imagine what that money could have been spent on? Poverty, homelessness, roads, bridges, libraries, hospitals, schools ... It makes you weep.

So Joe Biden says "We decided we were going to change the world --and we did." Firstly, to the extent that you guys helped increase diversity, pushed the women's movement, helped fight at least somewhat against US wars, and so forth --for that I am grateful. You all wanted to change the world? You did, but far more than making an equal rights world (for that you needed our help, by-the-by), the number one success, the crowning-jewel of your generation was the erection of the neoliberal order. But don't you fucking deny the devastation caused by neoliberalism, and the other lingering horseshit, like global warming, that has been thrown at my generation's feet. And then don't FUCKING DATE DENY that your generation is our number one opponent in us accomplishing our goals. Just look at who voted for Trump, buddy. And that's setting aside the fact that assholes like him personally profited from it and were involved with maintaining the wealth of the neoliberal elite. I'm sorry, but I'm not overwhelmingly interested in listening to Biden tell me that he has "no empathy" for my generation. Honestly, what a fucking asshole.

I watched a news clip yesterday of mid-west US steel workers being put out of work by the latest tariffs, and the Trump voters among them still tried very hard to excuse Trump, I think it's because, in part, they don't want to lose the little bit of hope that they currently have. They are like an AA member's drinking buddies who don't want to admit that he's a drunk, because they have been drinking with him the whole time and don't want to have to assess their own habits. If the steel-workers admit that Trump is a liar, then they have to admit that they were duped and might still lose everything. I think that they would prefer to believe that Trump has a strategy, and that they are in too deep to admit that he's just a privileged, racist fool who doesn't care about them, or the general state of his country. It's a tough state of mind to break free from, or to talk someone out of, much like the habits that can come from depression and anxiety, in fact.

David, I am 51, living in the UK, my children are aged 23 and 18.
Most of the young people are incredibly politically active. In my life, Jeremy Corbyn is the first politician in my voting life that I support whole heartedly, the younger generation are educating others, getting them registering to vote, it's so inspiring.
I highly recommend everyone who wants to change the way our governments work, please watch David Cay Johnston's talk promoting his book. He is an entertaining speaker, but it's not all about Trump.
He explains how to organise and motivate voters, to get our governments to work for us. They are supposed to be public servants, working for their constituents, not the Koch brothers, the disgusting Mercers , the NRA and Wall Street.
I can't put the link for some reason, but I felt positive and hopeful after watching it.
I love the picture of Bernie. He exudes empathy, he is the real deal.
You are doing a bang up job, David! An exciting change is in the air! š

You know, I was watching a Michael video today actually and just observing him made me crystalise something I've been thinking about lately. If the left wants to win, if the left wants power, if the left wants converts, above all we have to be... cool. Just, cool. Like, warm, smart, funny, no academic rants or righteous idignation or anything like that. We have to be cooler than all the teenboy and mid-life crisis mens fascist wetdreams, which is hard enough already. We also need to have finer, clearer, shorter and practical answers for just about everything, and dish them out when interogated.
Yes, its a pain and a burden but to echo Contrapoints: we need to realise we're not in a forum, we're in the circus, so its all about aesthetics not arguments. Though we need them too, of course. But vitally through all of this, every one of us needs to study up on international politics. We face global problems and the global solutions can only come from a global perspective and the global solidarity that follows such comprehensive understanding.
Also, Michael reminds us (in the video I watched today) that the whole purity test stuff, the wokeness, the tone policing MUST STOP. It is vital that we learn to be comforrtable with imperfect allies. We will get nowhere otherwise.

His episodes with Duncan, and Uncle Joey for that matter, are always essential imo, though, for completely different reasons. Joe gets a bad wrap from a lot of fellow leftists, primarily bc of the platform he gives to some people who are truly garbage types, but heās a good dude. Iāve been watching him for a few years too, and itās been interesting watching his evolution. Heās clearly not a right wing dude, thatās just not a fair criticism, and it is something I sometimes hear. Heās a capitalist, yeah, but heās still libertarian/left of center, and heās open about being in favor of a lot of progressive positions. I disagree with him on many counts, but heās a good dude. āš¼

Socially liberal? Yes, but that's probably the only difference between Fox "News" and supposedly liberal media outlets like CNN, MSNBC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Politico, etc.
Just like Fox, those other supposedly liberal outlets beat the war drums for regime change, do unbelievably obsequious propaganda for the military-industrial complex, prop up the mega-rich, and actively try to suppress the upcoming populist-left uprising here in America.
Aside from social issues, all these corporate media outlets are the same conglomeration, trying to keep the corporatist status quo afloat, but they don't see the populist-left iceberg dead ahead

Great video, but I disagree with the statement that the US has more advanced/experimental treatments because we have more rich people willing to pay for them and that this is a pro of our current health care system. The vast majority of such treatments come from research universities or private biomedical companies, which the US does have more of, but that's not at all a product of the current health care system. The health insurance industry does not fund the research and development of these treatments -- in the majority of cases, we, the taxpayers, do, by funding NIH, NSF, etc. Under Berniecare, none of that would change.
Also, I'm not sure on the stats, but it actually seems to me that Canada and European countries have waaaaay more experimental treatments available to patients. I have a chronic illness and am constantly looking into these things.

My country, Portugal, is a good example of how neoliberal/neoconservative politics and austerity are absolutely ineffective and hurt the middle class. After the 2008 financial crisis, we had a center right party in power (who, ironically, got elected for criticizing the previous government's plans for austerity) that spent 4 years implementing austerity: more taxes, higher taxes, frozen career progression, cuts to social security, pensions, etc. The middle class took a giant toll because the party wanted to appease the UE and the IMF, the latter even sent a special team called "troika" to analyze our situation, that advised our government to implement even more austerity.
After 4 years, the middle class was poorer, the economy was worse, unemployment was worse, AND a half a dozen of the biggest banks crashed (despite "troika's" thorough analysis, they seemed to have missed that coming). No one was held accountable for the banks, and tax payers ended up having to inject millions back into them
2015 elections come, and while that same party (actually a coalition of 2 right wing parties) had the highest percentage of the vote, there were more votes on the left dispersed over 3 different parties. So they decided to make a coalition of their own and ended up being the ones holding government. The right wing coalition called it a coup, said the "devil" was coming because a left coalition would overspend and bankrupt the country.
The new left wing government ended austerity, returned people their pensions and their salaries, raised the minimum wage, and more... Results? The economy is flourishing, unemployment has been reduced significantly, exports are higher, the deficit is the lowest it's ever been in the past 40 years.

Wow you are dead accurate on addiction. I donāt think Iāve ever heard someone put it so eloquently, and thatās coming from a former-addict. I met people from all different walks of life during my road of recovery from prostitutes to lawyers, and at some point it became clear that addiction is just like you said, secondary to underlying issues like depression (or anxiety in my case). The actual drugs-of-choice became irrelevant because we were all using them for the same reasons whether it was to feel numbness, normalcy, joy, or because it brought out the best in ourselves. Itās difficult when society marginalizes you like youāre a second-class citizen, but at the same time, it has given people like myself a newfound humility, understanding, & acceptance toward people whom society deems as lesser. Long story short, I really admire you for taking such a well-informed stance on this subject and trying to promote awareness, and you can count me in for a Patreon subscription.

"Progressives live in bubbles as well" - best advice of the day David! We must keep open minds and open hearts. We must always be ready to listen, debate and hold our moral and ethical line. Wars are won not by better firepower (money) or raw destruction (loss of liberty and freedom), but the steady build up of the will of the people. We will take back our country one election at a time. Within each victory, we will have a mix of beliefs and sentiments. Let's not let feelings lead us, but issues. Fixing our country, requires a complete redesign, rebuilding and resurrection of our psychological, intellectual, social, industrial, financial, and moral/ethical architectures. These are the big structures, not the petty ones. And this work requires big people, not petty people. So let's be boig, go big, win big and make big things happen.

Thanks David
Another fantastic video, refreshing to see prison incarceration problem from a Canadian āwhiteāperspective..and yes, when it comes to police culture , itās about about Blue culture, not black, white or Latin , Blue lives matter and blue code of silence,, etc. .
I always knew about the problem of mass incarceration, and how big business or industry it is, but it was an eye opener to see if from the documentary on Netflix called āthe 13thā , basically sums up how this is the new slavery. Enslaving poor people mostly visible minorities , blacks and Latin, and forced to work for less than a dollar a day ( recently we saw many in the California fires working side by side with fire fighters, and most wonāt get hired after doing their times in prison.
Thanks again.

Dean Cutler I once believed that. And I grant you you have a noble intention, Iām sure. However you do realize that your right-libertarian/anarcho capitalist vision would completely destroy civil rights in the United States, right? It would quickly revert back into pre-civil rights era savagery. After the Civil Rights and Voting Rights Acts you get considerable more racial equality and national prosperity, despite the reduction of some negative freedom, I believe net freedom for all peoples was increased.
Pure negative freedom would undermine all progress towards racial/sexual/religious freedom. Thatās why during the civil rights era the bigots of the south switched from language of segregation to language of negative freedom, and freedom of association. Thatās why they say āitās my right to live in peaceā or āI can discriminate against who I like. Itās my right.ā To enforce de facto, not de jure, segregation. Thatās why the Republican Party of today has its strongest supporters in the same states that supported Jim Crow and made up the Confederacy, for one. Itās all told to us very well in a book called āWhite Flightā by Kevin Kruse. The local white homeowners in Atlanta resisted actual desegregation for many years after old Jim Crow laws were repealed, until the civil rights legislation came in. This phenomenon actually spread in the reaction to civil rights in the 70s, and civil rights has been able to curb it to a great extent. But they continue to be successful at it in many ways to this day. Youāve heard of white flight, the practice of redlining, and the tyranny of local homeownersā associations. Read the Kruse book. Understand it.
Youāre young I imagine and so am I. We donāt really appreciate how terrible things were in those times. We imagined people would just play nice once you remove the state. Not true. You say we shouldnāt interfere in private business, well then does that mean youāre ok with legalizing slavery? I know slavery was often enforced by states, but often times it operated outside of the law, and if thereās no government there thereās very little to prevent slave markets from being established. Look at Africa. Iām not talking Stalinism or authoritarianism, but you do need strong liberal (in the classical sense) government to enforce these norms. Sorry. Iām sure youāll come around.

Hi David, your comments are interesting and validated by the young voters who came out in record numbers, they were engaged by a positive hopeful message from Jeremy.
My prediction is the Tories will implode, it will be over brexit. The right wing extremist DUP want lots in return for supporting Mrs May, the cost will be to much for some in the conservative ranks and the knives will be sharpening as I type this ready to plunge them into Mrs May's back...
So a coalition of chaos has been forged, mrs May looks weak and wobbly... Jeremy Corbyn holds out a positive message, progressive and attractive.
The SNP also got a 'poke in the eye' the Nationalist separatists and UKIP have been put in their place, I hate nationalism...I'm an internationalist, borders, walls and barriers cause wars... when will we ever learn!?...our children deserve to have a secure future and a society that cares that believes in human rights, not a cold hard Thatcherite market place a world where isolationist, protectionist idealism reigns

I am writing from Bolivia. Evo Morales term was until January of next year. He won the elections of past October 20, 2019. He won with more than ten points of difference from the second candidate. The loser did not accept the results and claimed that there was a monumental fraud. And then, all the most radical elements of the far right decided to support the loser. Mesa, the name of the opposition, decided to alienate with the fascists, and called his supporters to mobilize. Which is synonym to apply violence. To my surprise, this far right were very well organized. They have paramilitary civilians armed with bazookas. And the terror started in the streets. This movement is extremely violent, racist and irrational. Fascists. Together with the police and army had implemented the coup de ta. The paramilitary force organized by civic institutions, union juvenile crucenista, is a racist and very violent group of people. Any one that has some Indian factions are beaten, humiliated and terrorize. What happened in Bolivia today, is a fascist over throw of a Democratic elected government.

De-platforming is a very effective way to diminish the influence of any individual who may pose as a threat to anyone, especially if we are speaking on conspiracy theorists and reactionary-minded individuals who would create a cesspool of misinformation. Though, it is much easier when those have a smaller circle of influence to de-platform than those with a larger base. However, the endgame remains the same and that is the individual cannot espouse rhetoric on a larger scale.
Those who are ardent "free-speech activists" don't seem to understand that, in the most civil libertarian means, we police ourselves, and thus, we do have the right to object and even take action to reassure that deplorable hate speech or misinformation cannot be further spread. Sadly, they prefer to exercise a sense of entitlement, as oppose to exercising personal accountability when it happens. When it comes to social networks, as long as they have guidelines, and if individuals wind up breaking them, they have every right to remove them from their platform, especially if we are talking about individuals like Alex Jones. They are still free to speak their rhetoric, but YouTube does not have to be forced to accommodate that individual, under the false pretense of free speech.
If there is a slippery slope to be had, it is how we allow those on the Right to manipulate the conversation and create a false narrative, basically confusing the general populace, who are very simple in their thinking and bring to respond in a very fear-based manner. And thus, the result of that is what occurred in 2016, when Agent Orange was elected in the White House. So, "more speech" is never the answer in this regard. That's often regurgitated by those from a position a privilege, and not by those who are genuinely concerned about providing a more equitable future for everyone.

I agree regarding the 'serious blind spot' on the part of the Liberals, as you put it. It's a big part of why I lean more toward the NDP or Green Party in general. Many Liberals, including Mr Trudeau, just seem to miss the point on so many issues. I believe that it's partly to do with their corporate interests. They do some very good things, but they seem to lean toward the interests of corporations, like 'big-pharma' for example, rather than providing for the needs of individual citizens. They are a little like the US Democrats in that way, unfortunately. I want to encourage them when they do well, but they just can't seem to step out of that 'rich kid' establishment bubble at moments when it really would matter and make a difference for so many Canadians. They should consider those votes for next year. If they don't try to connect with regular folks, they may hand the government back to the Conservatives, who will try to undo a lot of good work.

Look, I'm for kids going back to school. My son is going to be a freshman in high school and he has spent WAY too much time home alone all day, being isolated. He needs to be around other people, other kids, and sticking to a stringent schedule. I can only do so much when I'm out working all day and he's at home. That having been said, some parents might be too terrified to send their kids back, especially if they have health issues. Yes to masks, yes to distance learning on laptops, yes to part-time rotation schedules. No matter what my school district chooses, someone is going to be pissed. No matter what my school district chooses, in the eyes of parents, they'll be doing evil and must be punished. And assholes like Betsy Devos only make all of this worse.

There rolls the deep where grew the tree.
O earth, what changes hast thou seen!
There where the long street roars, hath been
The stillness of the central sea.
The hills are shadows, and they flow
From form to form, and nothing stands;
They melt like mist, the solid lands,
Like clouds they shape themselves and go.
But in my spirit will I dwell,
And dream my dream, and hold it true;
For thoā my lips may breathe adieu,
I cannot think the thing farewell.

David -- I see a major problem that I've seen here in US elections: Lies are not unmasked. If Doug and Rob Ford did not save Toronto a billion dollars, that that was a huge, fat lie should have been pounded into listeners' heads by Kathleen Wynne and Andrea Horwath, and the narrator. Doug claims he is "for the little guy." He is against minimum wage, he wants to privatize, which leads to broken unions and poverty wages, and he wants to cut taxes of the rich. The other candidates, as well as the news media, are obligated to make him famous for those swindles. If people are allowed to ignore facts, they will vote on emotion. That's how we (US) got reagan's Revolution, and that's why it is still governing this country (USA).

i tend to be more āconservativeā, and viewpoints like this tend to be more liberal/lefty, but iām so tired of this stuff too, itās ridiculous. my dad was denied treatment coverage because his cancer hadnāt āprogressedā enoughā¦ they needed him to get sicker to help him? he thankfully had enough in savings to get his chemotherapy treatment, but itās unbelievable. it sucks, and it can be better, i have family who live in England and their healthcare system does have problems, obviously, but it is a huge improvement on the disgusting system we have over here, itās barbaric and inhumane in a developed country to do this to people. sorry for the long comment, i am just so frustrated with everything š

David, I actually very much agree with most of what you said. You are right, this is in fact a culture war issue. What's amazing is that I probably would have disagreed with you earlier in the year, but the issue with Sarah Huckabee Sanders is what opened my eyes. People on the left are almost always playing defence against the the right while simultaneously defending the right as well. Trump enacts a terrible and fascist policy that separates children from their parents, a member from his administration is politely asked to leave a restuarant after a vote from the working staff; because customers there may have a problem with her being there due to the administration's horrible actions, the right makes it seem like they're always being victimized by the left, and the response from the many on the left is "we shouldn't let this happen because it might set a precedent where people begin kicking others out of restuarants because of differing political views". If the right shared this same principle, I'd agree. The problem is many on the right claim that private businesses SHOULD have the right to do just that. The right uses the left's fears of the possibility of them being censored or in some way having a privilege taken away against them. People on the right would NEVER defend the left the way the left is defending Alex Jones. This gives Alex Jones and others like him more power. Reasons like this is why the playing field is not even. I am concerned that this might set a precedent, but I am more concerned about the precedent that has been set already. If you don't learn from history you are doomed to repeat it. It is possible that this might set a precedent, but history has shown us that it is a GUARANTEE that the right will use their power to shame, silence, and defame their opposition. Alex Jones is not a victim. He brought this on himself. He has caused others to be victims. We can not continue to let the right play the victim and 'free speech' card. They do not care about freedom of speech or expression. If they did they would want the NFL to rehire Colin Kaepernick the way the left wants Alex Jones to be replatformed. The right has control of every branch of government, they most likely will in the future control the Supreme Court. They accuse the left on shutting down speech at college campuses when recent data has proven the right shuts down speech a lot more; and they are now trying to punish teachers who criticize or have disagreements with their side while trying to change academia to benefit their ideology. They accuse the left of of worshiping celebrities but they love Trump, Regan, and others like Kid Rock (who at least at one time wanted to run for office). Many people on the left did not want Oprah to run for President when it was believed she might. They accuse the left of being cult like but they are the ones who never criticize their leaders / representatives. I still remember progressives getting upset with Bernie when he endorsed Hillary Clinton and when he went on that tour with Tom Perez. I should make it clear that not everyone on the right likes Trump or is a bad person. I've ranted enough. Good video.

Also I should say that I think this election could have gone differently if Horwath and Wynne had gone after Doug Ford much harder than they did. They did to some extent, but it wasn't nearly as harsh as it should have been. What I was desperately hoping for from them was for them to take Doug's most-repeated slogans (like tax cuts, hydro rates, "for the people", etc.) and rip them apart savagely and without mercy. They should have been hammering that message non-stop, that tax cuts means tax cuts for the rich and service cuts for you the regular people, and so on, and then repeat it ad nauseam, and in such a way that exposes what a blatant fraud Doug Ford is. They could show him as a rich elitist, a career politician, a corrupt crony of developers and other big businesses who wants to sell off Ontario piece by piece while enriching himself, and so on. I really didn't hear enough of that from Horwath and Wynne, and you need to do that against someone like Doug Ford who has portrayed himself as a populist. You can't hold back against a guy like him.

The Bee Movie recently came on Netflix, and me and my family decided to watch it for the meme. I largely enjoyed, but as the movie went on I noticed something sinister. The Bee Movie is fascist propaganda. My family thought I was insane but it's true. Let's look at the story here. Barry B. Benson, faced with the soul-sucking repetitiveness of proletarian life working for Honex, decides to try to free himself and goes outside of the hive. After doing outside stuff, he figures out that bees are being exploited by humans, because humans are expropriating their honey/surplus value. Barry, having achieved class consciousness, starts a lawsuit/proletarian revolution. Barry, with the help of the bee proletariat, wins. Post-scarcity is reached, and fully automated luxury bee communism is achieved. It should be paradise. However, this is not where the movie ends. Because of some bullshit mismanagement, bees just stop doing anything, including pollination. The world's vegetation begins to die, and Barry has to deal with the guilt of closing his class-traitor girlfriend's flower shop and spelling the end of life on earth as we know it. To solve the issue, the bees work with the humans to solve the crisis, and afterwards, bees continue to make honey and allow humans to use it. In other words, they solve their problems by ending fully automated luxury bee communism and promoting FUCKING CLASS COLLABORATION. How dare Jerry Seinfeld imply that fully automated luxury bee communism would doom us? How dare he try to tell us that fascist class collaboration is the answer? Who knew that by watching and sharing increasingly accelerating apian cinematic memes we were helping the enemy? I don't beelieve it.

As bad as Trudeau has been, the conservatives would have NEVER brought this forth. Also, the reconciliation would not even be on schedule. Even if both are half assed, at least it's here.
SPOT ON DAVE! Legalizing should eliminate the "law enforcement" aspect. People have been smoking dope for centuries. "Needing time" is a lie to pander to those who still believe in reefer madness. Abolish all LE involved in drug "enforcement" and put them towards sex crimes, which have been thrown on the back burner for generations.
A dope dealer doesn't even come close to the dangers of fraud in our government. WE pay police and politicians. Time for both to represent us!
The rhetoric should be, we are legalizing because prohibition has not worked, is not needed, was put in place by racists and still disproportionately effects minorities and poor people. Period.
The "black market" created "medicinal" cannabis. They are heroes...not criminals. Criminals are criminals. Also, cannabis is cannabis, there is no "medicinal" cannabis...it's just cannabis. Sliced bananas are bananas.
Someday, idiots that are against this, and those "for" it "for the children", will no longer be.
But yes, step in the right direction.

Hello from Alberta. I have a similar reaction to US people arguing about healthcare. They're so far behind in understanding that basic healthcare is a human right that is respected in a civil society in this modern world. Yes, Canadian provincial plansĀ have muchĀ room for improvement, but if you're in need, you are cared for. My spouse had toĀ use hisĀ work-based plan to cover his incomeĀ while he received cancer treatment this last couple of years, and though we have a budget crisis because of a reduced employment income, we are not destitute, as a comparable US couple would likely be by now. Our money troubles come from the private side of our affairs, not the public coverage from Alberta Health, which is reasonably good for most health needs except for, unfortunately,Ā optometry and dental, as mentioned in the video. Listening to US people in the media talking about healthcare, gun control and refugee strategies tends to turn me off. The frustration factor is just too high for me to handle without getting unsettled over it.

While I agree with you that Correct the record was just as bad as the Russian troll farms, the major difference is that one was set up by American citizens who have 1st amendment rights, Russians don't have 1st amendment rights. I feel like people need to look at this as a campaign finance issue, if we didn't already allow corporations to influence our politics (and didn't have incredibly lax campaign finance laws and dark money), the Russians wouldn't have been able to do the same thing. Publicly funded elections and getting more transparency on social media and TV political ads would solve this issue easily. Unfortunately the MSM doesn't want that because of how much money they make off of elections, so instead they only want to put a band-aid over the issue (and an incredibly damaging band-aid I might add) instead of going after the root cause, big money in politics and the notion that money is speech. This is a problem which started within the U.S., the Russians just exploited it, but MSNBC and CNN will never tell you that.
P.S. Love your videos David, you always have a much more nuanced view of things, which is really refreshing, keep it up!

The problem lies in the voters as well. You have to be a party member, paying your dues, and take marching orders from their rich donors, or you are not a Democrat. Wait, what?
If liberal Democrats truly care about pulling the American political system back from the right, they need to stop making excuses for their elected officials and realize they are simply not fighting for them. They are the ones who make the remark that Bernie's progressive policies are like a dream, but you would think they would rather have someone fight to get the best possible outcomes rather than handicapping themselves with "incremental change". Bernie's been saying the same things in Congress for decades for crying out loud. I am pretty sure Bernie would love his fight end in a dream come true.
The worst part is how they allow Republicans to set the tone excusing Democrats for not being able to accomplish their goals. Progressive policies aren't possible because Republicans will obstruct, but of course they will! They are fighting for what their constituents and donors want and our Democratic officials need to do the same on their end with US being the people they listen to, but as long as the voters don't put their feet to the fire, they won't care.
Obama needed to fight for the single payer option and not outright take it off the table as he did, and by doing so, he weaken his position in the negotiating table from the start!
It's amazing how many Democrats don't see that stating "we have to be realistic" without noticing that that's not how you barter. You set the price you ultimately want and come down to what the buyer is willing to pay. Democrats are the worst negotiators in the world, but that's probably why many business owners are Republicans.

Your style if informing folks is one of the best out there. Not only do you not preach, denigrate, or offer closed end opinions, you actually also read your comments, respond, and sample many of them for further discourse. Perhaps the next step, beyond tuning your processes, is to offer the means to graduate the issues you discuss to the action level, or point people to places and other folks where they can put ideas into action. Sadly, I am being increasingly turned off by sites I used to really appreciate and enjoy because they devolved into opinion and disparagement columns, and nobody needs those. Thanks for what you do.

As for Peterson's claim he isn't part of the right... on matters of race, culture and gender, he most certainty he is. For all non-white male groups, he utterly discounts the damaging impacts that group based stereotyping (using less explosive language here) has on their livelihood and well-being. He discounts the serious damage that historical processes have caused on non-white male groups, specifically people of color, and how these processes continue to hinder their progress today. He tells such group instead, that their perspectives are rooted in conspiratorial, grievance based Marxist/postmodernist thought (as if the latter is the natural byproduct of the former), and that they should pick themselves up by their bootstraps. Meanwhile when it comes to disgruntled white men committing violence/hating women, he says society should intervene. And when called out for racism, sexism and blatant double standards, cry foul. That is textbook mainstream right-wing politics. That is Tucker Carlson in a nutshell.

Jordan P. I watch TYT on a pretty regular basis. Kasparian is on the level.
I also never saw Sanders being duped, as you describe, at all.
Sanders is not the least bit bull witted to buy into establishment Democratic nonsense.
Neither is Kasparian.
She held her ground in her debate with Anna Coulter , and then some.
She is an entirely viable candidate, against Feinstien.
I like Kulinski, Doel, and Figuero as well, buuuuut neither of them has talked about running for any form of office, that I am aware of.
Even if they did, Kasparian has a more recognized face than any of them, and more to the point, she is strong willed and sharp as a tack... if you have seen her in serious debates with Coulter and other conservatives, about 2 months back....you'd be eating your words , brother šš

Jordan Peterson is eloquent and exhudes a certain charm that many of his young followers find very attactive. However, behind that layer, deep down, there is an intolerance and hatred that he rationalizes to himself and others as a righteous struggle against evil forces that would corrupt, enslave and destroy civilization, namely, Marxism and Postmodernism. However, he refuses to understand that Marxism and Postmodernism are complex, diverse historical movements in which many of their major thinkers often disagree with each other. He is very skillful at using logical fallacies, like strawman, false cause, red herring and unwarranted generalization. He seems to be almost a cult figure as exemplified by the vitriol that many of his followers throw at anyone who has the temerity to say anything critical of him. I wonder how many of his followers have read Karl Marx, Rosa Luxemburg, Antonio Gramsci, Theodor Adorno, Herbert Marcuse, Max Horkheimer, etc. Or when it comes to Postmodernism, how many of his followers have read Jaques Derrida, Michel Foucault, Jean Baudrillard, etc.? And not just read, but how many have honestly, with an open mind, tried to understand what these thinkers said? It's a lot easier to read some quick Wikipedia summaries and to believe that one has understood those thinkers, and then to believe Jordan Peterson's interpretation. What I find most disturbing in Jordan Peterson is his desire or need to impose on his students his own distorted interpretations. Sure, there is much to criticize in Marxism, Postmodernism and in what goes on in the culture today, but to demonize Marxism and Post-modernism and to want others to accept that demonization is not what an open minded, responsible educator does.

itsinmyvein - I'm having a lot of trouble understanding what you're saying in your post. At one point, you characterize different races as being different species. And you describe them as not being able to or not wanting to reproduce together. Neanderthals were a separate and distinct species from homo sapiens sapiens, but the two groups reproduced together. Not only that, they produced viable offspring, and there are many homo sapiens sapiens living today with Neanderthal genes.
Then you started speaking of North Koreans being a separate and distinct race. There has only been a separation between North Korea and South Korea since 1945. My father is older than that. No new "race" was produced by making a geopolitical boundary 73 years ago.
And then you claimed that Native Americans were a separate and distinct race, when they actually descended from populations in Asia and share many of the same genetic traits with those populations today. There was no genetic analysis, when Europeans first arrived that demonstrated that Native Americans were a separate and distinct race.
I'm not sure why you identified yourself as a student of behavioral biology, either. If you understand the scientific method, you should know that it doesn't use appeals to authority. And, by your own claim, you're just a student anyway. And behavioral biology isn't the same thing as studying the genetic traits of various populations of humans (although, maybe you had some course that you think informs your positions).
I could post sources to support my previous post, but that's not the subject of this video. In addition, I really don't care to fight that fight. Almost everyone has been socialized to believe that there are separate and distinct races of humans. To many people, it's a significant part of their sense of self. They want to believe that there are separate and distinct races of humans. And there is even a lot of race-based scientific research because almost all scientists have been socialized to believe that there are separate and distinct races of humans and there is a good deal of funding for such research. But none of it is scientifically valid because none of it uses discrete samples.

Owing a gun in Canada is a responsibility, not a right. The idea that an semi automatic gun against the American military that has more funding that is greater than the next 8 top nations combined is ridiculous. It may have been possible in 1700ās, however, the passage of time gives a clear perspective of how limited this amendment really is.
How about starting with a solution that a majority of Americans want: universal background checks over the entire nation. The congress needs to have representatives that will pass this legislation, so go and elect people that follow the peopleās will. Removing gun show loop holes, and then that legally selling an automatic weapon in a parking lot person to person.
There are so many easy solutions that America could take but hasnāt, I am hopeful that a change is coming soon. It truly depends on a cultural shift to make the change and after a constant barrage of mass slaughters at an ever increase rate, people are edging towards some effort at sanity. And to be clear, America does not have sane gun laws, none really. Unless restrictions, yes restrictions and limits, are made at a nationally level, you might as well be whistling in the wind.

I actually appreciate you discussing this. For me, it has never been unclear or doubtful how worthless, awkward, and sometimes even nefarious Ingram's show can be (from the clips I've seen on those covering her). This CLEARLY demonstrates the sheer, well, stupidity of the dynamics (and, as you shared, strategies) of these people. BTW ,Can't thank you enough for your fresh, honest, and brave perspectives. Deeply grateful for you.

Gotta love the boot lickers....Always on cue...Of course, SchroedingersCat2.0, you do know that 75% of the businesses in Venezuela are privately owned?...And,being an economic genius that all Right wing boot lickers are, you did know that Venezuela never diversified it's economy away from oil production, right?... Wanna know another place that hasn't properly diversified it's economy???...The province of Alberta....Guess what province would be in an almost equal heap of economic trouble (Probably more since Alberta is land locked) if it were it's own country???...And,of course, being knowledgable about history ,you do know what ideological types Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini aligned themselves with to seize power, right? Now, go back to The Rebel, give Ezra Levant your money every time he does a "pledge break", and, pretend you understand anything...Con boot lickers are the best useful idiots...

I totally agree with you, Mr National. I think the reason why this journalist thought she had Jeremy over a barrel is because in 1984 (when I was 15šÆšÆ) the Northern Ireland peace talks were in complete disarray. Jeremy C had a large hand in negotiating the deal that eventually brought about peace. It was pure shit stirring on Sky's part, which is why I will not buy into their TV subscription service. Not only is it shit stirring, but it goes to show that there are no depths to which Murdoch's henchmen will stoop, no one's sensitivities they care about. It wouldn't matter to them if - as a result of their shit-stirring - troubles in N.I. Started again. As long as they could point their finger at the person they were attempting to destroy. If anything, I think Rational National does Sky News a favour by insinuating that one interviewer was at fault. It was the whole network, that's been out to destroy Jeremy Corbyn ever since he gained a position of power within the Labour Party. He is dangerous to Sky, because,it's largely owned by Rupert Murdoch who stands to have a much higher tax bill should Labour under JC ever take power. Tony Blair, the last labour leader who won an election here, was more right wing than even Margaret Thatcher was totally bought out by Murdoch - you scratch my back and I'll make sure my newspaper group will cover you favourably. Corbyn has more scruples than that. The fact that Sky won't ever come outright and ask, "Why do you want to raise taxes for the super-rich, thereby depriving Rupert Murdoch, our boss, of a few quid?" shows that they know how incorrect the question is. So they try to find something else to string him up with. It makes my blood boil.

God, saying the Nazis were somehow leftists is just ridiculous, and it seems to be the new talking point for the right. Just because it has the word "socialism" in the name, does not make it socialist or leftist for that matter. Back in the 20's, Socialism was very popular in Europe. Many groups that weren't anything near socialist used the term because it was so popular, and made it seem like it was on the side of workers. The National Socialist party might have been somewhat leftist in it's formation (before Hitler), but even that is a stretch. When Hitler joined and was proclaimed the leader of the party, it took a hard turn towards the right. Hitler basically changed the party in order to attract hardliner conservatives who were afraid of a communist uprising, which helped the party rise to prominence. So, no, it was a right-wing party. These kinds of things happen all the time, for example, after WW2, the word "Democratic" became very popular. Hence, you have North Korea being called the "Democratic People's Republic of Korea", even though they are nowhere close to a democracy. And that is not the only modern example.
Why don't you guys just admit the nazis were right-wing? It actually does not de-legitimize modern conservatism at all. I'm on the left, and I admit that communism was leftist, and it was a horrible system, but that doesn't mean EVERYTHING on the left is wrong.

I have watched my 81 year old, former FDR loving mother become brainwashed by FOX News over the last 15-20 years. She can't see the hypocrisy of not supporting Medicare For All when she is on Medicare. She has benefited from many tax payer funded programs, including one last year that helps low income seniors make their home more energy efficient at $0 cost to her, yet she rails against SOCIALISM! The only thing I can do is hit her lovingly, but firmly with facts, like showing her the almost $7,000 hospital bill we received for our child's single night hospital stay. Her reaction was "That can't be right." to which I replied "You're damn right, it's not right. But, it is correct." Sometimes I think I may be reaching her, but she lives too far away and apparently, I'm no match for Rupert Murdoch.

This may be the understatement of the century, but it seems to me, based on your examples, that they're targeting videos that critically address "neoliberals," "centrists," and "Democrats." This makes sense, given that Google has been censoring and manipulating searches since at least the 2016 primaries. They would specifically sanitize the recommended searches when you typed "hillary clinton" while promoting the most negative choices when you typed "bernie sanders" or "donald trump," and I specifically compared the recommended searches that came up with Bing, Yahoo!, and several others -- Google's was uniquely positive toward Clinton and negative toward Bernie and Trump.
In essence, the media power elite realized that progressives were getting a foothold, not just in terms of ideas but in terms of money made as partners through YouTube, and set up a story about one hate video getting an ad... and the rest is history.
I sorry this is happening. As an American, I appreciate a Canadian's perspective on my sick country -- and mean that in a medical sense, not really as a value judgment.

This time, Maddow nailed it, she showed true empathy; I think she has the ability to be a true reporter, she just needs to do that more and teach CNN and other mainstream news stations a lesson or two. Itās really sad how we have become a nation of apathetic zombies. Mr. Lewandowski is just a dude, not a man. A DUDE does what this scumbag did on national TV, most likely for money and just to try and make an ass out of himself. A MAN would understand the impact that parents and family, when together, can make in a childās life, regardless of race, creed, genders, languages, and what have you.

In my opinion, we have to try all these reform ideas, but personally what I want to prioritize is what the Tea Party did; reform from the inside. The election system itself is heavily rigged against 3rd parties (state ballots, media, debates), so the Democratic party is our best vessel. The Tea Party RAPIDLY and successfully moved the Republican party farther right, and I think if we put our hearts into this and and put effort into progressive reform, with time (may it be 2 years or 5 years or even 8 years) the Democratic party will cave. Yes, I'm well aware of the fact that the Republican party responds to its base better, but I think senate races with progressives challenging the establishment will eventually chip away at the corp. Dems. Remember, this ''progressive'' movement has only been around 2 years. In time we WILL succeed. The 20th century Progressive movement before us prevailed, and we can do it again. Have no illusions, it won't be an easy fight, but it is one we MUST fight.
The progressive movement of the 20th century forever changed politics (for the better) and had a lasting legacy that was ultimately gang-raped by Raegan and Clinton. Keynesian economics was at one point a standard, (Teddy R., W. Wilson, FDR, JFK, LBJ) but now it's demonized as ''communism.'' Time to shift the paradigm back LEFT!

Sir, you have a new subscriber..... we need rational, intelligent thought and discourse -- thank you
An excellent, cogent and rational rebuttal to the utter madness, and twisted, sensationalist, propagandist, yellow journalism rubbish that now passes for the "main stream media". There are a number of Presidents born into wealth (here mentioning two plus, but there were many others), that fought FOR the people - both FDR, JFK, (and RFK, although Bobby was taken out before he could swear the oath).... were called "traitors to their class" and were despised. They were despised by "big steel" "big pharma" the MIC, big oil, the rogue intelligence thugs, on and on...... They plotted and almost succeeded with a coup against FDR - it was exposed by General Smedley S. Butler (who went on to write "War is a Racket")..... Going back to Bernie ---
I must assume that he should never accept a gift from a loved one, that he must shop from a dumpster, and live in a tar paper shotgun shack. Bernie's record is long and proud, going back to his being jailed during civil rights marches, and fighting against the loathsome Vietnam war .... they can not refute his record, thus they attack his clothing...... truly vile, childish and despicable.

Now I know you're a Right wing boot licker ( undoubtedly hiding behind the infantile title of a "classic liberal") Re. your question ( that you added after the fact...another trait of the Right wing...subterfuge)...Trudeau is a conservative as he, and his Lib's, are Ā also into the maintenance of the economic status quo. Has Mr. Trudeau, and his Lib's, done anything re. the unsustainably low corporate tax rate?...Has Mr. Trudeau done anything about the massive public to private wealth transference ( see: Triple P's re. infrastructure)? Anything about wage stagnation?...Anything about Bill C-51 ( the surveillance state) other than renaming it?...Anything about electoral reform? Subsidies to profitable oil and gas corporations? I'll await your Albertan/rural Canadian response on those...The Lib's are Con's with a smile...They DO give the odd offset on social issues. This is what they use to differentiate themselves from the Con's ( like the corporate Democrats in the US). On economic matters, and that is where the rubber meets the proverbial road, I defy anyone to tell me the difference. Re. That you actually think the Nazi's were of "the Left"...Again,now I know you're a Right wing boot licker...I suppose you think that, because of the verbiage, East Germany was called the "Democratic Republic of Germany" and it was also a "democracy". I also assume the because of this that Eric Honecker , and his STASI< were staunch defenders of democracy?...And seeing as you're a fan of definitions and a fan of "running a country like a business", let's get one from the source and not Mr. Webster..."Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism, as it is the merger of the state and corporate power..."...Benito Mussolini...He was the co-author of the Fascist manifesto, by the way... The rest is a miss mash of Paul Joseph Watson/ Jordan Peterson pseudo intellectual drivel I'm not prepared to spend any time on...And my point stands... You're a Right wing boot licker, drunk on your own version of identity politics and economics, and The Rebel is where you belong..

I used to hold an absolutist position when it comes to free speech, based largely on the notion that āsunlight is the best disinfectant,ā as they say. According to this notion, itās better for the common good that hateful ideas be allowed a platform where they can be exposed to public scrutiny and criticism rather than being forced into the shadows where they can malignantly fester without any checks against them. Surely, the reasoning goes, once brought to light, bad ideas will simply wither and die once people realize just how hateful and/or idiotic they are. Well, how terribly naive and optimistic that turned out to be! To the contrary, itās become painfully evident in recent years that all manner of deeply abhorrent ideas and hateful ideologies are remarkably attractive to a disturbingly large segment of the population. With that sad reality in mind, my objections āde-platformingā purveyors of hate speech have diminished considerably of late, especially given how weāve seen time and again the tragic consequences of inflaming the worst instincts of some people with hateful rhetoric.

Interesting that the downvotes actually don't have many arguments. Two thoughts.
1. On the video itself. The current internet-obsession with "principles" lacks any understanding of nuance or the word "principle" itself. To most so-called free-speech advocates: all speech is equal, all speech should be encouraged, and all speech should be represented in the mainstream. I really appreciated your breakdown of this issue because you hit back against the idea that if one supports free speech, one must also support the subsidization and propagation of that speech or they are unprincipled. This is a false dichotomy and a ridiculous idea in general.
1a. It's very difficult to have this discussion in this manner without appearing to be an apologist for one's own side while condemning the same behaviour of the opposite. While I think you did well, this is a point We - as in The Left, broadly - must make often and must support with as much evidence as possible, logical and experiential. I've been thinking of it in terms of a logical syllogism, which would be ideal, but I have not yet found the simple, decisive, convincing argument I'm striving for. By what method can We achieve this in the same way the absolutists achieve have?
1b. Maher actually is being principled - if his position is that all speech among public figures should be debated, discussed, and criticised without fear of such significant harm to their private life. Just as you are being principled in your own position. He's certainly incorrect on the bullying part, though.
2. The best counterargument against the boycott, in my estimation, is that no mob-mentality should be encouraged in any charged issue, especially when it comes to one's career and health (losing one's job and experiencing public evisceration is certainly not good for one's health). While I may be in favour of certain results, I actually do disagree with the method Mr. Hogg is using to achieve his desired outcome. The Center and the Left are coming together to boycott Laura Ingraham, but what will happen if the Center and the Right come together against a socialist, communist, or "social justice warrior?" This is not a slippery-slope, it is a reasonable comparison, and I believe the result will be the same. Such extreme tactics should never be employed against one's enemies if they do not wish to experience the same in response. Nor should they prod a hungry wolf.
Further, Mr. Hogg appears to be advocating boycott of Ms. Ingraham largely in response to her unprofessional criticism of his private life, not due to the views you allege. In my opinion this is a significant tactical flaw, as it allows those broadly concerned with the tenor of political debate to criticise Hogg's escalation of the situation, rather than engaging with the substance of any argument against her show. Thus, I do hope that Hogg and others learn from this and their next target is properly deconstructed, as Nathan Robinson so expertly did in his article on Ben Shapiro ("The Cool Kid's Philosopher").
Great video as always, David! Cheers

As a Quebecer, I've got a couple of things to say.
First of, let's note that the Quebec's liberal party is the right wing party in the assembly, let's not fool ourselves.
Secondly, this is important to note tant a couple of years back the Parti QuƩbƩcois tried to ban all visible religious symbols for public employees, not reciepients, which actually would be king of secular, I think it's unessessary, but as a quebecer I know how people hate religion here, not just ''other religions'', all of them, so I get where the sentiment comes from.
What the liberals tried here is to implement religious neutrality, not the saparation of church and stat, but neutrality which is different. They tried to end the debate but haven't because their law is really dum. You gotta understand, with winter, it is sometimes a necessity to have your face covered in quebec, believe me. This is now a law that can be implemented, it's realy dumb.
thirdly, it is interesting that the Liberals did this because they are the party taht most imigrants vote for, and they usually feel targeted by those mesures. The liberal party isn't a xenophobic party overall, they just wanted to close a debate but ended with a dumb law.
Finally, it is very very important to understand the views people have of religion in quebec. Recently I saw a poll stating that only 34% of people believed in God, that's realy fucking low. The catholic church fucked us up so bad we ended up hating every thing reminding us of religious control of people. This anti-religious symbol sentiment is not all racism and xenephobia, English Canada tend to judge us very rapidly without trying to understand our history and culture and it gets really fucking frusfrating.
And btw, for fucks sake, take the old fucking crucifix down my assembly.

I really appreciated what Mr. Roland Martin explained - and when he stated "there is a big difference between His-Story and History! So aptly put! I am a 71 year old Canadian - who - just a few years ago, learned what was done to OUR Indigenous peoples when a Tuberculosis Epidemic began to decimate their population - our Government at the time, did basically NOTHING about this - because it was assumed only our Indigenous population was affected, so what the hell, let 'em die off! However, WHEN this terrible disease ALSO began affecting so-called White people - well then, MY GOD, the Canadian Govt. at the time "We have to DO something"! They then made sure the Indigenous people had their own hospitals - the whites had THEIR own hospitals! When it was discovered that a certain experimental surgery, which entailed the removal of a rib - DID NOT work - Doctors stopped doing this to patients in the so-called White Hospitals within 6 months! In the Indigenous hospitals - this failed experiment was STILL PRACTICED for THREE YEARS!!! THIS is why, to this day, you can still see some Indigenous Elders who were subjected to this disgusting practice - they appear slumped or not fully upright. I WAS NEVER TAUGHT THIS HISTORY IN SCHOOL! WHY NOT!!!! I am SURE no one is taught THIS or any other UGLY CRAP our Canadian Government has practiced -- anywhere in my country. WHY NOT!!! THIS IS PART OF OUR HISTORY - instead we are taught his-story or their story! This is DISGUSTING!!! How can ANY COUNTRY learn, grow, and advance toward a more peaceful, respectful understand of so-called "others" and become truly ONE, as a nation, as a global entity, as anything humane - IF WE ARE NOT TAUGHT THE FAILINGS OF OUR OWN GOVERNMENTS!!! PEOPLE EVERYWHERE, whatever our nationality - learn from our mistakes - not our successes! I am FURIOUS at my Canadian education - and at ANY country's educational system that does NOT teach TRUTH! TRUTH IS POWER!!! I want TRUE HISTORY taught in every single one of our schools - right across Canada - THE above and every other UGLY Piece of History is our RIGHT TO KNOW as citizens of our country! TRUE HISTORY - NOT HIS-STORY.

We do give certain groups rights -- like charities, religious communities, and corporations. And groups can be held responsible for their actions, as in terrorist organizations, supremacy groups, and companies, etc. The difference, I believe, is in groups coming together vs grouping people together. When people come together there is a purpose, and a shared goal in mind. When people are grouped together it is by association, which is fallacious. Black Lives Matter isn't a group based on race, but on advocating for equal treatment because of the very fact that law enforcement often treats them (individuals) as a product of a group based on race. Jordan Peterson's argument is a straw man.

DJ Al Gore Free college in New York is a sham meant to appease the public. The legislation benefits only a very small sector of the population. I'm speaking from the point of view of a student at University at Buffalo (state school), coming from an extremely impoverished family.
You have to be within a certain income bracket to qualify for the scholarship, and then the scholarship only covers tuition costs not covered by other financial aid. This includes federal and state loans.
If your coming from a family who can spare nothing to support you, you'll basically not benefit from the scholarship at all, for the reason above, and because much of school costs are not tuition (fees, housing expenses, essential school supplies, etc.).
At the end of the day, I still have to juggle full time school (part-timers don't qualify for aid) and a 20-hour work week at my job in order to stay afloat, and my grades (and psychological health) reflect that.
That's why Cuomo and the republican democrats in the legislature passed it; because it's a smoke screen.

Things we could do immediately are decriminalize, then legalize (and regulate) all naturally occurring drugs. But even before we did that, we could make these drugs readily available to people. People hooked on opioids and other drugs could go to "drug dispensing centers" and get a minimum amount of the drug on which they are addicted. This would cause the demand for drugs - from cartels - to DROP! Addicts would no longer have to engage in illegal, immoral or criminal behaviors to get these drugs. By getting a minimum amount of the drug on which they are addicted, they could be STABILIZED!! And during this period of stabilization, outreach workers could meet with them and find out what THEY want and need for themselves and their lives. They would NOT be treated as if they were damaged, flawed or BAD!
The problem with so many countries - and the USA is one of the worst - is in the way we approach mind-altering substances in the first place. Our country sends out very mixed messages about them. On the one hand, alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine are legal. All three of these substances can - and do - lead to death in the people who use them. On the other hand, drugs like marijuana, amphetamines and heroin are illegal. Why do we legalize some - but not the other - drugs? Much of it depends upon who is using them. Cocaine was legal in this country back in the 1920's. It wasn't until People of Color and members of other minority groups started using them (and this became known to government officials) that the government decided to make them ILLEGAL!!
In essence, our government used the legal system as a means to punish members of minority communities. And once they did this, they could have police pick them up and charge them with a crime for using substances. Once charged, they could throw the book at them and put them in prisons and jails. Once imprisoned, they could use the inmates for slave labor for a variety of companies and jobs. A lesser-known motivation for charging and imprisoning People of Color was to turn them back into slaves. A whole lot of people were not happy when People of Color were freed from slavery. THIS was one, very effective strategy these folks could use to, in essence, engage in slavery practices but NOT have it called slavery.

I work in the animation industry. Back in the 90's, a Disney animator was negotiating his contract. He asked to make, in one year, what Michael Eisner, the CEO, makes in one hour. He was told that they couldn't afford to pay him that much. I think having a maximum wage is just as important as having a minimum wage. I would craft legislation that says the top paid person in a company can not be paid more than 25 times what the lowest person makes. Therefore if a CEO makes a million dollars a year, the lowest person would have to make at least $40 000. That doesn't stop the CEO from making more, if he wanted to make double that, 2 million per year, that would just mean that the lowest paid guy in the company would have to get a raise too, to $80 000. And I just used 25 times as an example, I don't know what the actual number should be, there needs to be some study and evaluation done to determine the actual number, could be 25 times, could be 10, 15.

+Furious Styles -- where's your data on this issue? I found one that studied 20+ years worth of data, and they came to the conclusion of "no". Here you go, the consensus report by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine for 2017;
https://www.nap.edu/catalog/23550/the-economic-and-fiscal-consequences-of-immigration
In it they state that "the Economic and Fiscal Consequences of Immigration finds that the long-term impact of immigration on the wages and employment of native-born workers overall is very small, and that any negative impacts are most likely to be found for prior immigrants or native-born high school dropouts. First-generation immigrants are more costly to governments than are the native-born, but the second generation are among the strongest fiscal and economic contributors in the U.S. This report concludes that immigration has an overall positive impact on long-run economic growth in the U.S."
The immigration policy has absolutely nothing to do with living wage increases; wages have been stagnant for decades, and the lack of regulation on the issue is what lead to the drastically shitty decline this country has been in. That problem has been around waaaaaaaaay before DACA, and way before any significant influx of immigrants. Besides that, I find it odd how on the one hand folks say immigrants hurt wages for the working poor, yet simultaneously fight against any effort to raise the wages of said working poor. Priorities in this country are out of wack.

David...most people know what your saying. But the people in America...we've been conditioned to not expect anything from our government, even if we would love it. We have to fight to even protect the decades and decades old policies we already had, let alone expanding anything. Its a sad situation because it was not always this way, but powerful forces have forced a narrative for many years about privatization and the power of corporatism, and its hard to break that which it infects every layer of your society, from healthcare, to energy policy, to unions, workers rights and pretty much anything having to do with leading a successful life for the average person.
Bernie awoke a hidden beast in American thought that was dormant. If he had not joined in the primary, Hillary would be President and we would not be talking about single payer healthcare, medicare for all and a leftist populist ideology. But because he forced those messages, he broke the illusion of the democratic party as the people's party.

This news story is like so many news stories that the media uses to control public sentiment and public opinion. In 2010 Barack Obama authorized the assassination of an American citizen, in Yemen. This citizen wasn't charged, or convicted of any crime. This goes against US law and policy. The administration was sued by the ACLU but nothing came of it, the issue was a minor talking point in the 2012 election. There are laws and protections that are supposed to prevent the government from illegally entering your home, seizing you property, and imprisoning ANYONE of us without just cause, much less terminating a human life. Omar Khadr is a born Canadian citizen. Like every other individual on this planet, he has the right to his beliefs, religion and to pursue those beliefs as long as they don't infringe on anyone else's rights and freedom. The Iraq war and every other war since which the US has spearheaded in that region has never been supported by any Canadian Prime Minister, except the Conservatives under Stephen Harper. While I might not agree with what Omar Khadr did in going to war, regardless of which side, he is entitled to follow his conscience and his God. After being captured as a child soldier he was taken to Guantanamo, tortured denied his basic human rights, and left without the protection of every Canadian citizen, which is guaranteed by our "Charter of Rights and Freedoms" because of his beliefs, and the side he chose to support. The Stephen Harper government basically left this child to die. If this was a child captured by the Germans in WW2, and the possibility to return this child to his homeland presented itself, it would have been done without a second thought. The Honourable Prime Minister Justin Trudeau did the right thing in acknowledging and righting the abuse of a Canadian citizen. He made sure the laws and rules of our Charter of Rights and Freedoms are applied to every citizen, and it isn't determined by your religion, your ethnicity, or any other affiliation, than you are a Canadian citizen. I don't believe in, or support wars, but the media which is controlled by entities who feel it is appropriate to take away peoples rights in the court of public opinion and have their causes supported as wrong as they may be, needs to be addressed.

Great video! It almost brought a tear to my eye. I'm just so proud to be a Canadian, and proud of how we have built such an amazing country. And Bernies right! Change does come from the bottom on up. Politicians need to fear the ppl, not the ppl fearing the government. They need to know that if they don't represent our needs, they will be out on their arse, looking for a new job, and not some cushy lobbying job making 7 figures.
So keep pouring it on my American friends! And don't stop until them corrupt arseholes in Washington feel the fear of the populace for not representing their needs.
If one of the smallest, (pop wise) and, actually very conservative province in Canada can do this, you can do it too!
And it's worth it. I'm yet to meet any Canadian, even extremely conservative Canadian that would want to get rid of our Universal Health care for your system.
Once even one state gets it, it will spread like wild fire.

David Doel -- I have never understood why people think of so many obtuse reasons for voting for one or another candidate. Underneath all the confusing talk about deficits and personalities, we all know that elected officials' actions are best predicted by their party affiliations. In Canada, PCs are the party of the rich, the rich are usually owners of (at least) rather large businesses. The normally want to pay rock-bottom prices for labour, not be restrained by regulations, and not pay their taxes. PCs arrange government to give businessman those conditions. It should not be a mystery that if you are a major employer, you vote for PCs; if you are an employee, you vote against PCs. If the NDP might give employees better conditions, employees should vote for NDP. If a person is living well in a safe job (who has that?) or on Canada pension, maybe he wants nothing to change, and that's the Grit party. I don't know why voters keep wondering what to do every election.

You nailed it. Rubin is an act targeting a certain audience. Even his video about Trump and the NFL was dripping with hypocrisy. You have the President of the US telling sports team owners to fire any players who engage in speech he doesn't like. But for Rubin, this is "concerning" but ultimately ok, not a big deal, and maybe even good, because Trump didn't actually use the force of law to make the owners do this. Meanwhile, if some college students shout at someone on a stage, or tell school officials they shouldn't allow certain speakers they dislike, they hate free speech and are the greatest threat facing the country (Rubin actually said this). The fact that they aren't using the force of law either, and aren't in any position to do so in the first place, somehow does not let them off the hook the way it does Trump.
It's a joke. He's funded by the Koch Bros and Libertarian orgs to pump out right wing propaganda. And he saw a market for himself in the anti-SJW crowd on Youtube. His output exists to pander to that, not to support free speech in general.

Dyson did a great job here in the debate. No one is brave enough to call this pseudointellectual out on his bullshit.
JPs argument about "what percentage" is ridiculous. It's akin to saying, "How much black paint do I have to apply to my face before it becomes black face? Does a dot count?" It's a mindless retort, and completely obfuscates the simple realities of race relations in the US.
Privilege is obvious to anyone who has any sense of how the world works. I have had a tough life. And yet, I understand that my personal circumstances in life would be even harder had I possessed melanin in my skin. I wouldn't retort by saying, as Peterson has, "you know nothing about me or my background!". It sounds so childish, and intellectually dishonest. How is this so difficult to understand? You have to be oblivious not to notice. It's no wonder why Dyson exploded as he did. Although, his explosion was precise and cutting.
So you have two options, either blacks are genetically inferior and that's why they suffer. Or, everyone is pretty much the same, we are all the same species, but some struggle more than others for psychosocial reasons. Since race is meaningless in the study of anthropology, since there is more genetic differences within a racial group than opposing racial groups, the answer is clearly the psychosocial option. Identical twins given to poor and rich foster homes had different IQ scores; The twin living in the rich household had 10 IQ points higher than the twin raised poor. We know how IQ is affected by environment. It's why no scientist would claim that IQ is only a genetic factor but of various factors.
Btw, when is JP going to that church with Dyson?

Hey, David, I don't come here for the scenery, but for the discussion. You are beautiful whatever the setting. I appreciate your point of view, you seem to interpret current events with a great deal of common sense. As a Canadian myself, I am somewhat removed from American politics (thank god!) but because it is important to us and the rest of the world I have followed that news for some time. (And also because Trump is so outrageous!) When Bernie came to my attention in 2016 he quickly became the voice of sanity; while Trump and Hillary cast aspersions on each other, Bernie explained his ideas and brought real hope that a better future is possible. The DNC block of his nomination was horrifying.
As long as money is the key to winning an election, where the party that spends more is more likely to win, and as long as big money can call the tune once its puppet is elected, the individual has no voice at all. Bernie has made us realize this, and in his dedication to justice for everybody he has shown us that there is a way forward. We have to step up NOW to vote for the people who have been infected with his vision, to infiltrate the monster and deflate it from the inside!

I think we are having a big problem with the caveats employers seem to be taking advantage of between hiring fulltime employees versus part-time employees, with the latter being cheaper for them. PT or contract employees do not have the same entitlements or benefits as fulltime employees, it is much easier to terminate them, and employees do not have to guarantee 40 hours of work per week. PT employees can also be paid much less than fulltime employees by considering them as "entry level", which is not clearly defined. Unions have been declining when we really need them, people think dues are a reason to not have a union, but they will fight for you and protect you. It's worth it to have their expertise and knowledge on your side. We need some form of regulation for PT & FT, with a minimum requirement of FT employees based upon a complex consideration of company size and business levels etc. Or to require that only actual entry level positions are paid minimum wage, with wages increasing with seniority/responsibilities/education etc. FT is only described as "35-40 hr/wk". Most people are being grossly underpaid, and no one who works should be under the poverty level, or struggling to make ends meet. Often employers offer extra hours, so you end up working 40 hours, but your schedule is only 25. All the FT with none of the benefits. We need better wages and better management of tax dollars. That would make a huge difference in our quality of life. $15/hr is great for minimum wage, but any job that isn't entry level should be paid more than that, we shouldn't all be paid the minimum simply because companies want to pocket more money. It's disgraceful mistreatment of the people they rely on to make the company profitable in the first place.
* Edit, that job loss myth doesn't take jobs created into account either.

Hm, the bit where you mentioned, "if the Dems don't speak for soemthing then we'll just keep swinging back and forth" --- EXACTLY. This is, in fact, what both parties are counting on. This is the modern establishment's whole frigging trick. Have a horrible Repub do horrible shit, then throwdown a useless neoliberal who does nothing good for the people, until they get sick of that person... in steps another monster from Repubs... gets tired of that person, in-step another useless neoliberal... rinse, repeat endlessly and in the end both parties win because they're doing everthing their donors want under an illusion of democracy. It's quite genius, in fact. I think this is where the progressive movement comes into play because it's the ONLY hope America has of breaking this disgusting cycle of shit.
Also, excellent commentary as usual. As a subscriber since you first got started, and a patreon supporter for the past few months, you've absolutely grown in your confidence and ability to lay down a narrative. Bra-freakin-vo, sir.

I find the biggest issue that many citizens in the U.S. have with social supports is generated from their struggle to pay their rent/ mortgage, utilities, health care, car insurance/payments, nutritional needs, and other life expenses. Because they struggle they feel like everybody else should too. Therefore, the idea of free community college, universal healthcare, Medicaid, snap, and other social services are seen as unfair. Truth is making 27k a year with two children and $800 rent $250 utilities, automotive expenses, and about $450 a month in groceries does not qualify for any help with child care or other assistance in many states. People are angry and need to focus. I cannot even imagine the type of backlash I'd hear from my msm-news-propaganda-drinking family if I ever said I supported housing the homeless or a basic income. You'll never guess who does the name calling in political exchanges in my family?! Hint, it's not me the "ignorant libtard." I'd never assign as liberal. I'm progressive all the way.

Hey David, my apologies after a long night of studying, but I think you've missed the mark pretty badly on Mr. Jones. As someone who ran as a local candidate in the past, I believe you're aware that what's on a website is not representative of the entirety of what you're running on. Even though Jones is running for senate, which seems like something that should have big, national implications, the races are often heavily focused on local issues. So let me give you a brief rundown of things Doug Jones is on record as being for.
Doug Jones has publicly called for protecting teacher's unions and expanding funding to public schools. Doug Jones has advocated for strong, protected voting rights laws (one of the very most important issues in the US, period). Doug Jones has advocated for expanding Medicaid in the state, advocated for Healthcare as a human right, and has endorsed universal Healthcare. Doug Jones has advocated for public investment(!!) in jobs across struggling rural communities. Doug Jones has also advocated for a living wage - and let me stop you for a moment as well. A living wage in and of itself is a huge commitment. A lack of specificity on this issue is not inherently negative. Perhaps more importantly, we need to get this idea of "$15 or bust" out of our heads. $10/hr in Alabama is likely a living wage across most of that state, and a system that guarantees a living wage to everyone could be effectively regulated county-by-county.
While most of these seem moderate or "establishment" in a national context, Doug Jones is likely the furthest left candidate for national office in Alabama in two decades. He is certainly the furthest left Democrat. Leftists should be cheering for his victory and immediately pushing him to be more specific, more committed, and more progressive.
Lastly, on the topic of voters, enthusiasm and the party. Doug Jones is not the most charismatic guy, no issue there. But we should not be looking at this on an individual level. There are critical flaws and failures in the structure of the Democratic party that have nothing to do with political issues. As the party currently stands, it could magically have the strongest, most popular platform ever, and many of these candidates would still lose! You cannot consistently win on charisma or issues alone, you also need the systems behind you that make everything go. I'd highly suggest tuning into the Democratic Reform Commission and listening to what folks like Nomiki Konst and Nina Turner have to say, if you haven't already.
I really rambled after all! I really do hope you read at least a little bit of it. Thank you for the video and cheers.

What a conceited, selfish prick. Not everyone wants to be a billionaire, you know. It's not "aspirational" for me to be like this greedy, out-of-touch, vapid loser who thinks there's nothing more to life than hoarding money, than conspicuously gorging himself at a lavish banquet right in the middle of a widespread famine while the planet boils and multiple species are going extinct at an alarming rate.
My own fiscal "aspiration" is to finally have basic financial security for my children and I so that we can, oh, I don't know, maybe have a decent home, take a week's vacation every couple of years, get a proper education and someday retire in comfort and dignity.
We're not asking for a lot, and we're all too happy to work for it; I work too fucking hard to struggle so much to feed my children, to live paycheck to paycheck. Yes, sometimes I skip meals so that my kids don't have to. Yes, I once nearly died of sepsis from an easily treatable illness simply for lack of health care coverage. And yes, affordable housing is so scarce where I live that my two kids and I have been tripled up in my mother's spare bedroom since January because even most 1 bedroom apartments are wildly out of reach here. Food, health care, and shelter; I'm not asking for a lot when I work so hard to feed and nurture people for a living, especially when I live in the richest country mankind has ever seen.
But people like this sanctimonious asshole aren't satisfied with merely being fabulously wealthy. They want to buy our government too, so they can continue to siphon our own meager wealth on up to themselves. And they won't be satisfied until they have all of it.
Whew! You were right, David, that really pissed me off! Especially since he name-checked my own senator, Ron Wyden, who is just a corporatist in sheep's clothing. At least we still have Sen. Merkley here in Oregon, who actually fights to get money out of politics.

Dave, youāre missing the point about the financial contributions.
Framing the issue as one where someone changes a position due to a financial contribution, as Hillary does, is the Citizens United position ā if you canāt show a quid pro quo , Clintonās saying, itās OK. In Clintonās view, thatās ājust the way Washington works.ā But, of course, thatās completely wrong. Being bought and sold by large donors constrains the agenda before anyone even thinks of a single vote. Clintonās whole campaign was about how some thingsāpopular policies like Medicare-for-Allāwill ānever, everā happen because she takes that constraint as a given. Sheās so enmeshed with money and politics, itās normal to herāshe just canāt even understand what the problem is. Bernie obviously does.

I have an idea on rebuilding Puerto Rico, our inner cites and blighted industrial towns leveraging Bernie's plan. I am a Bernie Bro but admit I was unaware he had a similar plan. Here's the deal called Inside Out and Bottoms Up Infrastructure Renewal:
1. Inside out is the rule that says the majority of the labor force, the guys with the picks the shovels, the jack hammer, the labor must come from the unemployed native inhabitant (whether the island or the inner city or WV coal town or my home town, Chester PA). Inside out also means the white collar work, the financial planning, the civil engineering, the urban planning, including multi-purpose neighborhoods, architecture, hybrid renewable power grid and seeding the ability for sustained industrial capacity (jobs), are done by students, interns, grads, and post grads who come form the communities effect. This means HBCU, Puerto Rican schools, Community colleges, local state school, and native graduates. The skin in the game is brown, black and white skin, aligned to the neighborhood or community. This ensure a major chunk of the money is spent on blue and white collar labor from the inside out.
An outside in imports labor from outside the community. There is little to no distribution of earnings to benefit the community. There is little to no lasting benefit to locals either. Their pride, like the air, is sucked out of the people. They sit, like animals in the zoo, withing for their cagfe to be cleaned and some food and water left in the dark corner.
2. Bottoms up - The companies who lead the redevelopment, or reconstruction, or resurrection (pick a word) effort are small banks, and small businesses. These business must lead the financial and infrastructure planning but must hire from the inside out through apprenticeships and subcontract to start up cooperatives (employee-owned small businesses, professional and manual labor. Doing so ensure the proper distribution of funds throughout the work force, and a focus on the objective, rebuilding for the present and future well being of the inhabitants. At the same time, you have funded a job and skills training program, where workers learn a trade, like masonry, carpentry, even modern alternative energy skills. You have also taken the folks form the towns an villages who went to school an placed them next to savvy, more senior business and professional people where they learn real-world business, social, technical, and engineering, panning, manufacturing and lifecycle skills.
A Top Down methodology begins with the largest investment banks, largest engineering firms, and the largest city planners and real estate developers. They all will take a significant cut of the funding for high salaries, bonuses, befits and other remuneration. Their work will not employ indigenous people, but the haute classe, from the blue blooded universities, and privileged classes. Their objective will be the highest return on their investments by taking the grant money and putting it to work to gentrify the area, creating office space, apartments and town houses to be filled by the rich, many foreign (international) wealthy.
I don't have time to go on. I am a slow typist and as you can see make a lot of mistakes. But eh idea of an inside out and top down is the best way to create more jobs for more Americans that resurrects our fallen, blighted communities, incorporates the latest in alternative energy generation, the best ideas in urban planning, and plants the seeds for renewed growth in our industrial capacity. This reduced poverty and crime, provides good work for our under and unemployed, for our kids coming out of college, for small businesses, regional banks and local governments.
I realize I under-expressed the need to pull in manufacturing companies into the master plan, but you get the idea. It would be damn sad if Goldman Sachs and Halliburton get the contract to rebuild Puerto Rico or any place.
Thanks

As a former heroin addict and former heavy meth user, something Brand and I have gone through, I love Russell Brand's eloquence. His speeches about the drug war, especially from someone whose suffered it's effects, are amazing, well thought out, and would be easy to put into action if we got rid of this neoliberal bullshit. I suggest everyone watch his speeches by looking up youtube videos where he speaks about different subjects. His arguments are brilliant, they are very well thought out, hard to disagree from an ethical, public safety, and cost perspective. His politics are progressive and he seems to genuinely want the best for the vast majority of us. He's a great representative for progressives, one of many, which is much more than I can say for the #Resistance nutjobs.

Love it, stopped, watched the debate, now back, you picked the best clips. I agree, witnessing actual decorum was a pleasant change, no need for the gotcha moment, just an honest discussion of differing perspectives and different points of view , just presented to consider, like it should be, so refreshing. Definitely not a debate, (but you're correct on how you suckered me into the clip) the necessary evil of algorithms and monetisation for good work. Thank you, thoroughly enjoyed the "debate" and analyses.

"Ford ran for the 2014 Toronto mayoral election and lost.
In 2011, Ford promoted an alternative plan for the Port Lands district of Toronto, including a monorail, a boat-in hotel, the world's largest Ferris wheel and a mega-mall. The plan was ridiculed in the media and council voted it downāincluding by members of the mayoral executive committee.
Ford caused controversy after revealing that his brother Rob would be served a subpoena if Rob's friend and driver Alexander Lisi went to court over charges of extortion. Ford commented that the subpoena was in "payback" of Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair not getting a contract renewal with the Toronto Police Service, saying "This is why we need a change at the top", in regards to Blair's contract. Blair filed a defamation lawsuit, demanding a written apology in exchange for dropping the suit. Ford apologized verbally and then later apologized and retracted the comments in writing.
An investigative report by The Globe and Mail published in May 2013 alleged that Ford sold hashish at James Gardens for several years in the 1980s, based on interviews with anonymous sources. Ford, who had never been charged with an offence, denied the allegations and accused the newspaper of unfairly targeting his brother, then-Mayor Rob Ford. The newspaper defended its report and its use of anonymous sources at an Ontario Press Council hearing, which dismissed complaints against the newspaper and found that its coverage was "fair and ethical". Ford said at the time that he planned to sue the newspaper for libel. When asked in a 2018 interview why he had not sued, he replied that he had decided a lawsuit would be a "waste of time".
In regards to Northern Ontario, Ford criticized the Liberal government for not proceeding quickly enough to develop the Northern Ontario Ring of Fire, saying that he'd get on a bulldozer himself if necessary. His comments in regards to Ring of Fire development have been criticized as being "simplistic" and disregarding the patience required to negotiate with Indigenous peoples in regards to land claims and ensuring Indigenous communities receive a share of any economic gains."
Yeah, "not" a loser, I guess.

Canadian also here with a thought about "Draft Bernie":
I decided that if Bernie S. wants to run against Trump for POTUS as a Democratic Nominee, that's great, and what the draft Bernie group needs to do, is to convince him that, should the Democratic party cheat him again, he will run for POTUS anyway, and that there will be a progressive base supporting him. They should establish the new party in any event, so that Bernie can win under a banner other than Independent. I also realized that if Bernie wants to save the foresaken country, then awesome, but if he doesn't... well, I can't blame him (even though he seems to be the only one even near the plate)

I so AGREE! Bernie was NOT nearly as hard on Hillary as Obama was! But disgustingly, Obama won and HIRED and did almost exactly what Bill Clinton did! Find that clip whereby Hillary had a breakdown, when Obama brought up NAFTA, several times during their Primary. I believe its when she had her staff find Rev. Wrights Sermon and took it out of context!
I'm sorry, Bernie DID WIN the Primary, and you KNOW, he was CHEATED! With all of Hillary's CRONIES in many of those states, FLIPPED, TRASHED and cheated Bernie out of MILLIONS of votes/ballots! CA along, whereby they called the election, before all the ballots were counted! BERNIE DID WIN and like John Kerry, did NOT FIGHT nor CONTEST the outcome!!!! This is what pisses me off about WEAK ASS DEMOCRAT'S!
If they did this to a Republican, no way in hell would they have gotten off that easy! Remember Al Franken and that Republican he won against in WI? It took MONTHS before Al was allowed to take his Seat in the Senate! This is the only thing I RESPECT about the reTHUGS, they FIGHT, no matter how WRONG they are!!!!! and Dem's refuse to fight, no matter how RIGHT they are!
I am ASHAMED & DISGUSTED with the Democratic Party and why I am an Independent!

As a GenXer, you Boomers did change the world. You destroyed unions, shipped good paying jobs overseas, ended pensions, crashed the stock market, jacked up the cost of higher education to start and keep young people in perpetual debt, increased our incarceration rates to the highest in the world, and stopped holding those responsible for these messes criminally responsible just so you could make an extra buck.
To quote Bob Dylan so maybe you'll get it:
Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows and rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'
Come mothers and fathers throughout the land
And don't criticize what you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly aging
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'

Hi David,
I started watching your channel about three weeks ago. I was searching for a fresh perspective on U.S. politics, specifically, the Democratic Party. I was immediately captivated by your political analysis and rationale, which, by the way, you could not have chosen a better name for your channel. As an American living overseas for 20 years, I detected an objective and intelligent tone to the topics you discuss, which is very refreshing. It's no wonder you have tripled in subscribers in less than a month.
Although, I don't agree with some of your opinions and analyses, I do believe in how you do, what you do, and your reasons for doing it, That being said, I'll be giving $10.00 per month to your channel. You are the second person after David Pakman that I contribute to, and I wish I could give more. Your intelligent, logical, and critical thinking when discussing political issues gives me hope that we can disagree in issues and still have a common ground

As a New Zealander watching all the way from Perth, Western Australia (yes, quite the mouthful), I only started taking an interest in US politics the moment I learned about Bernie Sanders and his progressive platform and having the courage to stand against the 1%. And then, Jeremy Corbyn emerged as UK Labour Party Leader along with the mass media smear campaign launched against him at every turn leading into the Brexit referendum and of course, last week's Snap Election resulting in his ultimate surge in popularity. Such an astonishing result that was.
For a long time, I have been in search of independent media challenging what the corporate wing has been churning out over the years and funnily enough, that all began with Russell Brand's Trews lol. Then I stumbled upon TYT, which lead to the likes of Jimmy Dore, Kyle Kulinski's Secular Talk and The Humanist Report AND NOW most recently - your show, so I thank you for providing an honest and for lack of a better word, 'rational' point of view where other so-called progressive platforms choose to attack other outlets for disagreeing with their POVs (not naming names), so keep up the good work indeed, Dave. I'll become a Patron for sure - no worries mate! :)
In other news, however, NZ is holding an election in September, just saying. Our last PM John Key was a stooge for Obama and was blatantly in support of the TPP which I do believe his resignation was the best thing he ever did. Furthermore, also believing he resigned because Trump became President which "was" going to derail his hopes of the TPP ever going ahead. Key was a Merill-Lynch banker on Wall Street btw so that too oughta tell you something. Anyway, NZ needs change as much as the UK and US but we're still a long way from the style of policies that Corbyn and Sanders are offering.

I Agree with You, David. The Situation is about the Establishment versus Populism, and, similar to what Bernie Sanders was up against, Jeremy Corbyn was up against a Corporate Owned Media!! ~ Facebook became His Friend, and His Manifesto went Viral!! ~ His Authenticity, Compassion, Humanity, and Foci on Peace and Equality, All Shone!! ~ Shine On, Jeremy Baby! ~ Beam Up into that Prime Ministerial Seat ASAP!!

Ā @monsterram6617Ā Dude, You have made several value statements about the value of race, religion, and culture that I would argue are as equally unable to be demonstrated as "true" as you think religious claims are, especially considering that there are a great many people in this world who objectively place greater value on all those things than you seem to. If you know of some cosmic subjective standard by which you can tell that these things are not valuable that you are especially privy to, then I would love to meet Him. ;)
All jokes aside, I am not sure what any of this has to do with the video lol. But, whether you like it or not, "diversity" IS policy. The alternative, by definition, is white people running everything, or black people, or Muslims, or heterosexuals, or yadda yadda in a democracy that is not made up solely of any one of these groups. I assume you agree that is not ideal? So I fail to see what is wrong about talking about it in the positive fashion that Rational did.
Unless you don't agree, and that's fine, but then, if you say "I just want the best people", well, then I'm just letting you know that I am the best people :D. Followed closely by Bernie and is badass diverse council!

Australia has similar laws, i.e., the Racial Discrimination Act 1975. From wikipedia: The Act makes it "unlawful for a person to do an act, otherwise than in private, if the act is reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to offend, insult, humiliate or intimidate another person or a group of people; and the act is done because of the race, colour or national or ethnic origin of the other person, or of some or all of the people in the group." See the wiki article on "Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975" in particular. I like having such a law, especially for the reason David mentioned about creating an awareness among people that you can go too far, even if the law is rarely invoked.

David -- Unfortunately, my income is so meagre that I can't be a patreon. Yet speaking for the needs of people like me is central to your purpose. Like your complaints with youtub, my employer does not pay me what I honestly earn, and the reason is that the employer prefers to steal my earnings and keep it for "themselves." That, of course, is likely the motivation of youtube. As the US electorate should have known for decades, this is exactly what the reagan Revolution and the subsequent rise of neo-liberalism, exists to achieve. The suckers who have brought us this mess continue to revere ronald reagan, and nominate Hillary-type creeps who intend to intensify this process, when the government's proper role should be to protect citizens from criminals, such as thieves.
You recently said that you might like to migrate to the USA. I don't recommend it, but if you do, realise that this outrage is supported by (apparently) most Americans. Theft of others' earnings is apparently believed tobe"The American Way."

David, only a few questions / commemts here in general and not being patronizing and these can be rhetorical obviously.
do you incorporate SEO / keyword research?
Just testing freestyle can help too while learning the more technical stuff that one doesnt know yet. For instance try simple tests like adding a politically relevant banking topic bc 1st national bank of texas is trending or has a high payout ad search. If someone says Hillary always reply when you can adding the word Clinton because it ranks higher with both words. Bernie Sanders? throw in 2016. Bernie Sanders 2016 is highest ranked. This are just random madeup tweaks or examples.
Need more than twitter to draw more viewers.
Need other owned sites as both draws and $ streams and backups, like syndicating your videos and content across media. People have complained about losing hundreds of videos. Heartbreaking stuff.
Cant one request review of any demonitization with standard cut and paste replies to save time?
Do the videos in question say they were demonitized or are there just no adsense ad bot matches from adverters at this time? Campaigns begin and end and advertizers change paramaters. Like they may not want to be on a national anthem protest video etc. after the first week when things get nastier so they exclude those matches on videos. Or they just want the first week of a video. You already know a this type stuff, so who am I talking to.
You know about how the ad bots work now by checking out key things about your video, your audience, the devices they use, the comments, what they are guessing are your audience demographic etc... advertizers have their own bots and prowl and go bid in bot to bot auctions with youtube bots arbitraging the bids. Creators need to get an overview if they dont already have an idea of how to find the best ways to work the arena so to speak.
I would be sure to put an educational fair use statement in the descriptions of videos when using video clips, including news clips, from others? Avoid other ppls music (and use nice free music) but I think you already avoid the music issue. which is a little saddish bc music is so good. but tricky.
There are free tools that can help with optimization to improve your earnings where small techniques and tweaks and tips can add up. I will be back with one sample link to a guy on youtube who has a recent listing of top ten free keyword tools.
https://youtu.be/qclUCIApN_o
look in his description of his video he has the links.
FYI on this video of yours I got three different ads run. google, kfc and a wordswift or some program that helps fill out forms automatically.
Edit:
do triple stack playlists? your playlists are under utilized.
linked / affiliate marketing?
where do ppl order your tshirt mug cap calendar etc?
Where is your downloadable ebook... A Canadian's View of The State of American Progressive Politics? based off your channel.
Sponsors.
Mail Time where people send you money and gifts to your PO Box. Honestly some ppl will do that rather than PayPal or Patreon, but that too.

Ā @LazyEyePoliticsĀ I think there's a natural tendancy to feel this way but, really, it also kind of others in a subtle way.
The attitude that David is expressing is "they got caught doin' it at work and, as they would at any job, got fired for it...this isn't a big story, move on!" which is probably how every left-winger would feel if this had been a male and a female staffer who got caught doin' it in the Senate building.
And, yeah, I know that's just the nature of straight priviledge, but isn't that the point of being an ally in the fight for equality?
It shouldn't be a bigger deal that it was an LGBT couple than if it had been a straight couple.
I mean, you say you're an ally, so you're presumably straight, and if had been a straight couple would you feel that they made you as a straight person look bad?
So I just don't feel that LGBT people should need to feel that this somehow reflects on them.

Great piece. It is good that you point our President Trump's cowardice when he was a young man, where he could have served or chosen to protest. By doing so you continue to remind the world, the great paradox that exists where cowards send the brave to die, and cause the brave to rise up and question. If only all of us, those who served and those who publicly resisted, would join together and demand justice be served on the cowards. For their reasons were many, and none honorable. They robbed the people's treasury of their money, their liberty, their children, their health, and their lives as well as the same of their neighbors they attacked. And now, in their final act of detestable desperation, and grotesque hubris, call on our patriotism, to condemn the protester, and continue to do injustice to the veteran.

I think everyone should try psychedelics at least once, everything you said is true. It allows you to see things from a different perspective, basically what empathy is, seeing things from an others view point. It shows you everything isn't so black and white, right and wrong, its a matter of perspective. And its not even like you have to abuse it, I do mushrooms perhaps once a year, haven't smoked weed in weeks, rarely drink, its not like you are a degenerate because you sometimes indulge in these substances. But some people are so brain washed in their ways... funny thing is, the one thing that will help change their minds is what they are so against!

Yep. And thank you David.
It is so important and beneficial to point out manipulations, to help people begin to identify and pick up on it when it is employed, or maybe I could say instead, deployed.
I wish they would get a few on the right who could point out the manipulations in MSM and right-winged media, to help them to think more about some things, and of course also help them think less about some other things.
But then again, that whole approach would have to break down pretty quickly, as any would soon have to cease being right wing, as it wholly operates today, so we won't likely ever see such as that happen. Maybe a few right-Libertarians would become left-Libertarians, which would help a bit.

It is easy to see the impact of the consolidated ownership of corporate media. Whenever a politician has a new book to promote, or a celebrity has a new movie or project to promote, you see them on talk show after talk show, morning shows, late night talk shows, the Sunday morning political shows, The View, etc. In the last few weeks, it has been Hillary Clinton, then Donna Brazile, then Biden, all with books. Hillary's book was published by Simon & Schuster, owned by CBS. So 60 Minutes got her first, then Colbert, then she went across all the other networks. I doubt they even call the shows about availability, they probably just put out some communication that says here are the dates and times we're doing all the shows, and here are the conditions.

Better fast in your seatbelts, its going to be a shit show, now that the PC got in. There goes minimum wage, plus more cuts to come, and the rich will have it made. I voted NDP, because I really wanted Andrea to win. I even got my friends, co-workers, and spouse to vote NDP. My community voted NDP. What has this province come down to, voting for a dumbass? He was awful at the debates. It was so bad, I seriously could not stop laughing. He had no platform, don't people think that is a pretty big gamble? Who knows what he has planned. All I know is that its not going to be good for the "little guy". I agree with all your videos about him, he is really a liar and full of shit. He was telling people what they want to hear. All I have to say is that he better not fuck up

I understand the sentiment completely, and in the case of the United States and Britain, and likely the rest of Europe, a socialist revolution seems on the rise, and for good reason. Corporations have really manipulated their political systems unabashedly. Now the chickens are coming home to roost, and the backlash is nigh.
But Canada is a bit different. It's been implementing progressive policies incrementally, and the neoliberals that run Canada are actually liberals (and also literally Liberal, as in their party name). They have their buddies in the corporate sector, but by and large the corporate sector likes all of the social programs implemented by the government, because that means they have less social programs that they need to implemented for their own employees. Also for the most part, corporations don't bear a big burden of the social programs, it's mostly paid for through income and sales taxes. Corporate taxes in Canada are pretty low. Corporations have no reason to be against social programs, and actually benefit from them.
So unlike American Democrats, who are neoliberals but are actually old-school conservatives, Canadian neoliberals are old-school liberals. So there isn't really a groundswell of support for NDP or other far-left parties, because the center-left party has been by and large responsive to Canadian's demands. This happens in both the provincial and federal levels, the Liberals seem to draw on massive support because no one is really too worried about them cutting social programs.
Now, I think one problem with the Liberals is that they get into power and do break some promises. Such as Trudeau reneging on his promise to reform the Canadian electoral system, because now that he's in power, he's happy that the existing system got him elected. If he was smart, then he should have gone through with his promise, and likely he would've been voted back in with another majority because he actually did keep his promise. For that reason alone, I'd be inclined to vote NDP this time.

First of all,why is she even asking this guy? And why should she care what this one person thinks? This dude looks terrified. Shouldn't he be frightened of white supremacists and people running around with automatic weapons? With his attitude, why doesn't he hop on the GOP train? What is his actual ideology as a democrat anyway? Nothing is mentioned beside his obvious terror and Donald status .David is absolutely correct in that they are advertising their corruption just by entertaining this conversation,by him being her guest and seeming to be unaware of what they just revealed as if it is totally normal and acceptable for this one guy to be her single guest , who has on one one's with a cable host and multiple US senators and can threaten them with his fearful opinion WOW, is the corruption so everyday, deep and normalized that it probably floats right over the heads of most viewers, not setting off the appropriate radars and alarms?Additionally,if Mr billionaire( uhh-oh I said the offending adjective and it is interesting that he identifies the word as descriptor rather than noun) is not into the GOP tax cuts and other cow towing to their wealthy donors ,what is this terror that strikes his heart in regard to progressives ?He is on a pedestal but it is simply subconscious and therefore so is the fear of the fall? David puts a spotlight on Another relavent topic and gives us an excellent take on this skewed disfunctional, obfuscated issue that may not be covered anywhere else or by anyone else but the estute David Doel. My extended babbling rant is over...I certainly was triggered!

Ā @therationalnationalĀ I tell you, David, I don't know if you watched it live but their courageous actions literally made me stop what I was doing, listen exponentially more intently, and it gave my goosebumps. That's a power-of-the-people accountable democracy in action. I've never felt the way that I felt, watching something on TV; they spoke for all of us and, regardless of the outcome, I, and millions of men, women, and children who are victims of sexual assault in any and all capacities, will be forever grateful that they got in a representative's face and forced him to face the nation of voices that have been muffled for too god damned long. So, SO proud to be an American in that moment.

I have one point of contention with the "you have nothing to worry about" statement - but it actually agrees with your overall argument. YouTube has had multiple controversies around restricting access to and inexplicably punishing channels that produce LGBTQ+ content. Users viewing the site in restricted mode - something parents use to filter out content that isn't meant for children - often have these channels totally filtered out, with few if any of their videos visible. This is true even for channels specifically geared towards LGBTQ+ youth. And this is just one aspect of the ongoing treating of this demographic on YouTube (and on other sites besides, including Twitter and digital storefronts like Steam). So these users actually do have a lot to worry about.
This, though, is why you're still right that the slippery slope argument is fallacious. Because we're already at the bottom of the slope - anybody who tells a trans content creator that they shouldn't be excited about Alex Jones getting the boot because they might be next doesn't understand that these creators are ALREADY being hit with unfair treatment. ALEX JONES is the "next" on the slippery slope. The same is true for Twitter, which refuses to punish Alex Jones and openly lies to its users by saying that Jones as never broken their terms of service - many users can tell you about how they've had accounts suspended or otherwise punished just for calling Jones bigoted after going on one of his bigoted, conspiracy-theory-fueled screeds.
So do you really have nothing to worry about if you're not constantly peddling conspiracy theories and hate speech? Well, you do, actually - turns out marginalized people are also marginalized on the internet. Big surprise. But that's exactly why nobody can defend Jones by saying that we'll be next - we were first, actually. YOU'RE next. And that's a good thing, because at some point we have to step back and accept the burden of needing to look at the world and decide what is and isn't acceptable.
And Alex Jones is not acceptable.

Add a link to your favorite book/cd/etc. to the description in your video, to your Amazon Associates Program. You get about 5% of every sale forever and ever.
If you wonder why: because Youtube was ultimately taken over by Google. See Dejanews.
http://www.fastusenet.org/blog/what-is-dejanews-where-did-it-go.html
By the way my channel of many years was blocked for some mysterious reason. They never said why, so I'd have to guess.
http://newsbreaks.infotoday.com/NewsBreaks/Google-Acquires-Dejacom-17652.asp
Why Dejanews was important: "DejaNews revolutionized the nature of Usenet. First, it offered a Web-based view of Usenet. Although Web browsers dating back to Mosaic include the ability to read and post on Usenet, many users never explored those features. DejaNews' Web interface exposed Usenet to millions of Web users; in fact, many new users thought that DejaNews was Usenet."
What happened when Google took over: "As for the Google takeover, Deja's rich structured-searching functionality was lost, replaced by Google's much simpler interface. Google admitted the shortcomings of its search interface, while attempting to emphasize the positive: "The current beta service available on this site lacks browsing, posting, and many other important features. We are working hard to provide these. Due to the logistical and financial constraints of the Deja service, there was no viable way to keep the service going. Now that the Usenet data has been safely archived, we are focusing our efforts on implementing these important features. Please bear with us during this transition.""
""Deja Refugee," who requested anonymity in order to protect professional relationships, also noted the link-rot effect of the abrupt switchover: "As of February 12, all the major search engines, including Googleāand some Web sites of Google's own search engine customersānow have THOUSANDS OF INDEXED WEB PAGES WITH LINKS GOOGLE HAS BROKENālinks to Deja articles which no longer work. For that matter, many of Deja's postings themselves contain links (also presumably now broken) to other postings. In other words, Google has instantaneously devalued the content it acquired."
"Search engine experts also took note. Greg R. Notess commented on searchengineshowdown.com: "The database is considerably smaller and the search features much less powerful than we had on Deja last week.""

Yeah, YT has also demonetized my channel, which is only 1 year old, until I get a total of 10,000 lifetime views, which seems arbitrary! Ā I believe that the larger trend, however, is to sanitize the internet and make it "family friendly," like a G-rated movie, which happens whenever Yahoo buys a new media service like tumblr. Ā Even Google is censoring the internet, and when sued by leftist/ socialist sites, were threatened by losing their domain name permanently. Ā It's all very fascist!

Rat Nat, Couple of points: First - How can you dare complain about fanatics when you are a Maple Leafs fan? (kidding, not - Go Flyers!).
Second, isn't Parkhomenko a Russian Name? Wonder if this is just another game they play to effect the elections?
Third, Daou is the reason the Democrats are dying in spite of the easy lay up the president, his administration and the Republicans are giving them. Verrit is a Russian slang word for lonesome self pity.
As I listen, it dawns on me that Daou may be a plant, not for Hilary's sake, but to drain energy from the effort to unify democrats. I believe the personal catharsis is long over. This is either a ploy from outside forces to divide the democrats(center, left, progressives), or someone with self esteem issues.

OOOOH Damn, its real up in this debate. I mean HOLY SH-T Balls yall. Jordan Peterson just got hit HARD. These so called intellectuals on Youtube need a complete and utter destruction of their BS. I'd love to see Sargon, Milo, Richard Spencer, Roaming Millennial, get their asses CLEANED by Dyson in the best possible way, and that will shed light on their bullshit. I get that the population is shifting, but claiming a "white genocide" is actually "Holy Shit we are on the wrong side of history and are afraid to admit our wrongs." This is not relegated to free thinking white people , but those who fall victim to screwed up conspiracy theories about being replaced. As a human being, its hilarious that people are so stuck on race. As a black man, i feel EXACTLY what Dyson said, and when truth comes about, snowflakes like Peterson get triggered. Peterson already knows brown people get stereotyped the worst way possible, so he should not be so appalled about being called a mean white guy. Peterson seems to be all hot and bothered about exposing himself. Not shocked at all.
Rational National
Thank you for understanding things the way you do. We need more people to call out the bullshit of these dishonest clowns.

David, thanks for speaking on this. I'll add that from 30,000ft this looks very similar to political behaviour on any motivating issue there has been during my lifetime: there's no incentive on either side of the single-payer issue to kill it. Arguably, it is (currently) the most motivating issue that get's constituents to the polls, as it were. In my opinion (and I'm curious to know your thoughts on this), I see zero incentive for either side of the aisle here, politically speaking, to legislate this issue to its obvious conclusion: Single-Payer Done and Done. As long as the Left can motivate voters with a message of "we're fighting FOR single-payer", the Centre is balancing on an message of "make the status quo-better" and the Right is focusing on a message of "we won't let government tell you what to do" - all sides (politically) win here. Do citizens win with this? For fucks sake, no. However, in State Assemblies and Congress there is ZERO incentive to advance on of the few remaining motivating issues. Not resolving this issue gives ALL sides a political target and, to politicians, gives them an opposition. Without opposition they'll have to... come up with new ideas? Innovate? Surrender to the needs of humans to co-habitate? Pfft... how would they raise money for that? (I say that very tongue-in cheek, certainly.) Well... that's a sufficient rant, methinks. I'm glad to have found you and grateful there's a voice like yours contributing.

I'd offer that David picked the best part of this debate. Dr. Peterson (whom I really like) stepped all over himself. And Dr. Dyson (whom I also really like) carried the day. I only hope that Prof Peterson watches this video over and over and reach out to Prof Dyson, for a more deeper expansive discussion on the social subjects of our day and of all times. Dr. Peterson mantra in the individual first, last and always, and it is a solid way to approach life. I am my best person, I will put my best foot forward, I will remember to carry myself with principles and virtue in tact. If I don't there is nothing I can (or anyone for me) to be of any value to society. Good. What he leaves out is how in reality, groups of people decide not to be their indvidial best, but their individual most degenerate, and collectively, bigots and racists, and intolerant toward others that they group into "inferior" others, worthy of their scorn. Peterson's solution is to be your best and the rest will take care of itself. he is right. But the reality of those that do not prescribe to their "personal best" approach create the destructive world we live in, and create others to group in defense. In the end, we have weak individuals forming powerful groups creating groups of victims. Why Dr. Peterson fails to see, let alone address this is beyond me. Still, I am grateful for his work, and take it as great parts and, in this case, terrible parts.
