  1. housing is not the only reason why Chinese saved. Like other countries, China suffered from 3 years of lockdown, where incomes diminished for many. Unlike in the US, where the government printed money to give handout to Americans, Chinese government largely subdued. So most people dipped into their savings to survive. Now with lockdown is finally lifted, they are back in saving mode. This lethargic growth will be going on for few years at least, until the Chinese are confident enough to spend again.
