@itiswhatitis1306 Yeah, taxes are relevant here, because you'll end up paying either way. I'd rather just pay the tax and know I won't become bankrupt if I get in a car accident.

@plasmachicken That is just incredibly false. The US spends, like, 1–3% of its GDP on the military at the worst of times. However, Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security eat up almost everything else. The US is best thought of as an insurance company with a standing army.

@itiswhatitis1306 I'll say it again, the military is barely 1.5% of the GDP. Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security use the majority of GDP. Nothing else comes close.
