@Perkelenaattori Unarmored carriers weren't a flaw; the idea is that operating in Europe, a carrier could never half more aircraft than an airfield, so it was better to be able to take a hit and be repaired in relatively short order. In the Pacific, it was the same; whoever had the most planes would probably win, and since there weren't any airfields, it was best to maximize the aircraft on a carrier and prevent being hit in the first place; that just wasn't possible in Europe.

Proximity fuse best weapon of the war. More deadly than nukes.

@yulusleonard985 You underestimate them because they're not American; literally the same mistake that the USN made.

@allangibson2408 Not really; the Americans and British didn't believe the Japanese could make a better torpedo if they couldn't.

@yulusleonard985 That's not why nobody used oxygen torps after the war; there just wasn't a need for them because guns became more accurate, missile were a thing, carriers became the first and last word, and submarines became something completely unrecognizable to the boats of WWII. Furthermore, nobody that could build and deploy oxygen torps had any need to make a super long range torpedo bc they already had the numbers and range advantage, so there wouldn't be a point to it. Eventually, electric torpedos just became better because the technology matured.
