@haraldhardrade7539 Ukraine will just continue getting support from the countries in theAlliance. Meanwhile, Russia has welcomed a new NATO member along its border, Finland, and will welcome another, Sweden, which will turn the Baltic into a NATO lake. That's how effective Putin is at keeping NATO away from his borders. 🤣🤣🤣

Your interpretation of Article 5 would make the alliance meaningless. If an attack against one is considered an attack against all, then sending an apple would not be a conceivable option. Finland and Sweden would not have been in such a rush to join if Article 5 just meant "consideration."

Ukraine will probably get one-on-one alliances with countries like Poland, the UK, and the US that are outside if the NATO structure but overlap it.

Did the alliance immediately go to war with the USSR when West Germany joined? I forget.
4
NATO didn't immediately go to war with the USSR when West Germany joined. That is the difference.
3
Russia recognized Ukraine's borders before. That recognition only lasts long enough for Russia to rebuild and rearm.
3
Had Ukraine been a member of NATO, Russia would not have invaded. That us the reason Russia has not invaded the much smaller and weaker Baltic states.

How did accepting Romania into NATO help the US after 9/11? I can't entirely agree with your reasoning on why the US accepted Romanian membership.
3
Simple, no active or latent border disputes with Russia is the reason Finland was accepted. NATO wouldn't have to automatically invoke Article 5 with Finnish entry into the alliance.

@WetworkWarlock Yeah! I'm sure there are many Ziehan/MacBeth fans.

If it is just you, then not asking- /begging for help is a personal choice. If you have people dependent on you, then not asking/begging for help is irresponsible.

Peter seems to travel pretty light, so I would bet trail runners.

As Peter said, with the European NATO members increasing their defense spending, the US can shift to the Pacific. Leaving NATO might have been a tiny possibility for the US before, but certainly not now.

If you have seen Peter's presentation on how shale has made the US petroleum independent, you will see that it might be just Europe that races FAST to protect Ukraine.

@hermaeusmora2945 Well, if you put it that way, then give Putin Ukraine, heck give him all of Europe. If Putin is eyeing your lollipop, you better gave that to him. If you don't, he could break and decide to use nuclear weapons! Are you going to be happy and giddy that the world ends because you didn't give him your lollipop?

Both Greece nor Turkiye have had the good sense not to invoke Article 5 against each other. Article 5 was really intended for the USSR.
1
None of the NATO countries have been dumb enough to invoke Article 5 against another NATO country. Should Ukraine become a member of NATO when still fighting Russia, invoking Article 5 would be a reasonable thing to do. The current NATO members don't want to add a member who would immediately invoke Article 5 upon entry into the alliance.

Coming out of the woodwork suggests someone who is new to a subject opining on it. Peter has been in this space for 20 years. If he were to make a video on his predictions for the Grammy Awards, that would be he coming out of the wood work. 😅

You are forgetting North Korea as the prime example of nuclear power=immunity from invasion.

@brianb5543 US defense spending us increasingly focused on countering China. Remaining in NATO is valuable but no costing the US much.
