@zorkmid1083 China might be interested in a defense deal with Saudi Arabia, but the terms would be horrendous for SA: Pay for everything, permanent deep discount on oil, right of first refusal on oil, etc..

@mohammedsea857 Actually, net exporter means producing more than one consumes. And if the US needs to import, there where Canada comes in. Saudi Arabia has nowhere near the leverage that it had in thr 1970s when OPEC conducted an embargo against the US.

@zorkmid1083 The biggest threat to Saudi Arabia is Iran. Iran and the US are not buddies. So MBS thinks there is a deal to be had because SA and US have a common adversary. China has no problem with Iran. In fact, the only two countries that Xi visited on his Middle East tour were Iran and Saudi Arabia. The thought that China would fight Iran for Saudi Arabia is farcical. That's why China doesn't replace the US as Saudi Arabia's protector.
