When the political classes in Canberra treat their professional killers as if they are disposable it is very hard for those same warriors to continue to believe that all life is sacred. It is that political hypocrisy alone which has caused the process of warfighting to become slightly more chaotic at times than it otherwise would, and so I forgive every last one of those soldiers for their errors because they were forced to operate under conditions that are beyond that which it is reasonable to routinely do so. The buck always stops with the highest leadership, so if you have pushed men until their minds have broken and they have temporarily forgotten their humanity then it is you and not them who is the monster.
