More harm than was done to all of our Vietnam conscripts during that entire war, yet the media and the government refuse to acknowledge the loss and suffering.

I have no reason to like the QLD government but we still need to consider the facts. Exposure to nicotine, from conventional or electronic cigarettes during adolescence can impair the developing human brain by disrupting the formation of brain circuits that control attention, learning, and susceptibility to addiction. Basically the migrating neurons get a "stop here and start connecting to other cells" signal when they are not yet in the correct place so you end up with a lot of randomisation in the brain's connectome. Furthermore there is a connection with the youth crime issue in that the above negative consequences of early nicotine exposure do lead to behavioural problems. There is also a link between nicotine and pancreatic cancer which would suggest that there is no safe way of ingesting the substance, i.e. it is only a question of which method does the most harm. For adults an e-cig is probably safer than a traditional one, and a skin patch is probably safer again.
