Optical neural networks compute in picoseconds what a GPU takes nanoseconds to compute and optical systems use almost no power whereas GPUs are very greedy. Nvidia's market will be limited to the production and training of neural networks, not their deployment, in the future unless they can expand into the optical area. However even the GPU may go the way of the dodo as researchers are developing optical and quantum ways of training the networks too, which will be much faster and less energy intensive.
