LOL, well yes that does highlight a problem with the entire SETI concept, the "I" stands for intelligent and you can't run a Turing test on a remote information source if each interaction step takes centuries. SETI always was a bit of a fraud in that regard. Especially when you are in a galaxy that is 100,000 light years across an they have search everything within a few hundred lights years already without finding anything remotely interesting.

  2.  @The.Occupier  Yeah but both ends of the link need to have the same tech and a shared particle pair pool to consume. So how do they make that swap in the first place? So perhaps nah never.
