Poor Old Blighty is economically suicidal, but it is just a passing madness as their fusion reactor research is advancing rapidly, a saner nation would just push on as they are and make sure the research gets the funding and support it needs to progress, then they will get there in the end without any chaos and economic destruction.

@oldbloke204 All that is fine, quality always did make good sense, but without fusion reactors you can't have a genuinely sustainable civilisation, no other energy source is going to be feasible, 100% reliable and genuinely sustainable over longer time scales.

@oldbloke204 Note that Tonga eruption, two orders of magnitude higher and the entire Earth experiences a volcanic winter for more than two years. That level of event will happen, again, so how genuinely sustainable are the ideas you have in mind?

@oldbloke204 Fusion reactors don't pose any level of threat at all if they are aneutronic technology, furthermore they can go in safe areas and produce hydrogen that is used elsewhere. Mate I have thought this through down to a very high level of detail and out to a time scale of centuries. It really is the only sustainable path that is survivable.
