Nobody suggested it would be over in only 4 weeks, that is a deliberate red herring that they are using. 4 weeks is the best quarantine duration for returning travelers, that is a very different thing. It is also not true that all medical people agree with keeping schools open, the "herd immunity" experiment they are running is in fact causing a lot of controversy amongst medical people globally. Ultimately nothing matters but the body count in a year or so from now and governments will survive or fall based on how people feel about that brutal reality. No amount of deferring to a nebulous cloud of unnamed experts will let them avoid culpability, and yeah that is a shitty situation to be in, but that is the price you have to pay in interesting times if you are in a leadership role.

@chrisd924 Agreed and some program to deliberately infect fit young volunteers in a controlled way so that they get the mildest infection possible then generate their own antibodies, this may be what saves our medical workforce from disaster in the end. It would also let the nation get back to work ASAP, segregate the old and the sick then have a staged and very orderly return to normal activities starting with young adults. Older people can work remotely and supervise young people. We can do this but I am not sure our governments are smart enough to pull it of that deftly.

@pekulike It is not a retrovirus. It does not splice itself into your DNA. Only those with actual lung damage, those who end up in ICU will have some degree of lasting damage. If not getting infected is always a bad idea why are you not doing something about the people sending children to school? Don't look at me I home educate my five and always have.
