  4.  @BRITISHREPUBLICANuk  It is the most efficient way to do it in a way that is not easily disrupted by natural events (in Australia). Some of the newest gas cooled reactor designs can produce heat at a level that can drive catalytic splitting of water directly. So no additional steps to introduce energy losses.
