If that treacherous toad Albanese really gave a crap about Australia having a realistic chance of reaching netzero by 2050 he would declare Labor's support for Australians using nuclear power, and he would address how to compensate Australian citizens for the loss of an $8 trillion asset, our shared coal reserves, which he is actively seeking to destroy the value of.

@George Washington South Australia has a tiny population and very little industry to speak of, they are actually a parasite that feeds off the rest of the nation for support, same with Tasmania. Do the maths on what it would take to scale what SA have. BTW SA only have enough batteries for less than 15 minutes of operation, not the week or more than they would really need to just deal with normal weather events if they were not really taking power from elsewhere to cover their deficiencies.

Sadly no. You would have to destroy a lot of landscape to install enough solar panels and batteries to cover even normal fluctuations in sunlight availability, then there is the fact that a big solar storm (which is just a matter of time) would destroy all of those panels and it would be years before you could replace them all. Solar power with no backup from nuclear etc. is a suicidal policy for a nation to pursue. Perhaps if we had masses of solar thermal producing hydrogen (not the fraud that is natural gas derived hydrogen) and enough storage for months of consumption, then we would have enough insurance to cover known threats from natural phenomena that have occured before and are expected to occur again. In a nutshell, solar does not scale to safely meet our needs and allow for projected growth.
