So when things go back to normal and all of the usual infectious diseases are circulating we can expect to see those even older and more vulnerable demographic groups die off even faster? The point being that living longer is not necessarily a completely good thing if your health didn't improve but you simply had a reprieve from the usual pathogen attacks that would kill you. As for the USA, they were on a declining curve already that can be connected to demographic shifts more than anything else. Richer white people live longer so if there are less of them as a percentage of the population you can expect a decline in life expectancy. Australia was growing due to the immigration of young professionals, who if not European were still from a wealthier and better educated demographic compared to the average person in their country of origin.

Yeah several years you can never get back, a very good point!

@hansreichhardtsohn4522 Actually read what I wrote, the difference in the USA compared to Australia is almost entirely driven by demographic differences. And you missed the most important part anyway. We will see the same sudden pulse of deaths, just offset in time as those who survived hit the point where pathogens do get them, they are not immortal or getting healthier. The demographics have been "chirped", there is a pulse in the numbers but the area under the graph does not change significantly. Your ignorance is pitiful.

@fugawiaus It is mostly just the old area under the graph illusion. A peak looks bad to innumerate fools like "Hans Reichhardtsohn" because they can't see that the same peak laid on its side has the same area, number of deaths.
