@luciferblack7764 Show me how a nation that depends on solar power can survive the next volcanic winter, which is just a matter of time according to the science of volcanology.

You expect them to prove their claims when the entire basis upon which they justify needing renewables in the first place is yet to be proven? It is half cult and half scam, and not science at all. Show me how a nation that depends on solar power can survive the next volcanic winter, which is just a matter of time according to the science of volcanology.

@luciferblack7764 Dream on fool, the ocean power projects like the one in WA turned out to be a failure, otherwise they would have scaled that up years ago. I bet you didn't even know about that project. There is not enough hydro project potential in Australia to cover our needs nor are there enough pumped hydro storage sites to cover our backup needs for two years or more, they will last for days or weeks at the most. It would seem that you are the one hiding in a dogma box high on ideology but really you don't have any science at all to justify your fantasies.

@luciferblack7764 Answer my question directly, how do we survive the next volcanic winter if it it runs for 2 years or more, where do you get +500 times the storage that you would normally need?
1
@luciferblack7764 And I pointed out why that was an empty and bullshit answer. Where to you get 500 times the energy storage that you could normally justify. Wake up fool, they would never be able to economically justify it even if the potential was really there, but if they don't they are going to run out very fast and the entire nation will be in serious trouble. Even if 100% of our power was from coal or nuclear it would still be a very rough time and globally there would be mass starvation so forget about any imported food. The problem is that the idiots in government can't prepare for a global event like that because it would require them to admit how flawed their local assumptions are about the capacity and affordability of renewable energy.

@robertholland7558 Lots of nuclear power and putting as much of our agriculture into artificially lit greenhouses ASAP, because we will need to also grow food for all of the animals we have that currently live off the land which will see a drop in productivity that would otherwise cause them to starve too. Basically we need to have closed self sufficient cycle economies of all large towns and cities, plus surplus for the rest of the nation where that is not viable. We would also need to not need any form of imports as all chaos could break out as other nations fight each other for food resources or see civil wars break out. Don't forget that these events happen and have been correlated with the fall of civilisations for good reason. The biggest danger will be the fight that breaks out when China tries to dominate the worlds fishing area in order to get enough food for its population, if allowed they will strip those already depleted resources completely and use their navy to keep everyone else's fishing fleets away. Where else would they get enough food?

@robertholland7558 It has to work everywhere, it is also the only sustainable long term option humanity has, and the only way to colonise space and other planets.
1
@robertholland7558 Population reduction to those levels is not going to happen, plus see what Elon Musk has to say about humanity surviving at all if we don't keep growing and expand into space. I agree with him 100% on that. Also take note that catastrophes don't just kill the weakest they tend to just set up a situation where the most effectively nasty and violent survive, not necessarily the "best humans". So what makes you so sure you would survive?
1
@robertholland7558 OK tell me what you can't achieve if you combine artificial general intelligence, quantum computing, fusion energy, nanofabrication and recycling, and biocybernetics where DNA and digital systems are directly linked in real time. All of these technologies are already developed and being perfected or are very close to thresholds where they can be considered useable in a commercial or military context. I bet you didn't know that programmable computers with full input output channels have been implemented using DNA in living cells. The "future" is already here, it is just unevenly distributed.

@robertholland7558 Come on you have an imagination, what does super intelligence and limitless energy give you if you can also control matter right down to individual atoms? What isn't then possible?
1
@robertholland7558 You have no imagination? No science education either? Then what are you doing on the web at all, your place is in a traditional environment where you can live out your short life in the manner of your forefathers. Ignorance is bliss, and that is a legitimate path to follow.
