Comments by "" (@DanielSMatthews) on "More US states remove mask mandates" video.
There is a trade off with mask wearing between infection control benefits and the social and psychological harm that covering the face during human interactions causes, particularly in the young. Better technology that did not actually mask the face is possible, but not immediately necessary any more.

@tilapiadave3234 You are an innumerate fool, you should stay away from numbers and sharp objects in case you hurt yourself or other people.

@EL-FUKKO All of the independent health experts have been muzzled in Australia, this is an actual fact as they can't speak their mind publicly or they face deregistration etc.

@MrZerosphere Thanks for sharing.

@jsmith9705 OK well then you would be wrong as the people who say that a medical procedure is safe and effective, both are generalisations and leave you open to rhetorical attack because they are not 100% true. See my point now?
3
@jsmith9705 Small is not the same as zero.
2
@jsmith9705 "higher" yes there is a calculation to be made.
2
@jsmith9705 Yes, the total viral load expelled by a sneezing person is reduced. So it is correct in limited contexts. That is the problem with a lot of generalisations, they ignore context.
2
@gribbler1695 If you ignore context is that out of contempt for your audience or due to a lack of intellectual integrity on your part?
1
@jsmith9705 Depends on what you were doing, if you are intubating some fat fucker who is terminal and has a body full of virus you don't what to get a face full of their exhaled breath as the tube goes in. That killed a few doctors. Context is everything.

@jsmith9705 The needs of children always come first, they are the future of humanity. I have mentioned Quality Life Years Lost to you before? This is the metric you must apply to the above question, and many more serious question that have come up in the last few years.
1
@jsmith9705 The problem is that it is a false claim to say that anything is completely useless so you need to consider the pointy end of the issue, assuming we took no measures how many would die and how many QLYLs would that equal compared to all of the other harms we see from the different measures. Clearly the argument has been controlled by rich and influential old people and they have put their own fears of death ahead of their humane obligations to those younger than them.
1
@jsmith9705 So you want my personal view which applies to nobody else? If I had the flu I would stay home and maximise the rate at which I defeated the infection by various means known to me, before I even considered the needs of others anyway. There needs to be two types of aged care facilities, peaceful places of passing for those not afraid of death, and the usual kind which are full of people in denial of their own mortality and are kidding themselves that their miserable existence is going to improve and is worth the futility of extending it with every measure possible regardless of the cost.
1
@jsmith9705 You miss the point, at the moment some old people die alone because of the fear of others, that is cruel and selfish.
1
@jsmith9705 Old people who fear death are causing other old people to die alone and without their families. I already told you what one obvious solution is.
1
@jsmith9705 Why did you burn ants with a magnifying glass as a child?
