It is frustrating to see people getting just enough help to restore what they had, if they are lucky, but never enough for them to avoid it happening to them again. Our response needs short term and long term thinking applied to it because the costs of regularly dealing with floods ends up more than the extra cost of helping people get their lives and businesses back together in a way that minimises future risk.

@nobody6056 Yes, or on the ridgelines surrounding the town and have the old town become parklands and recreations spaces. Unfortunately the mayor has said that they like the town the way it is and have no intention of changing things, so there is your problem right there. It sure kills people's motivation to donate to their cause when they are as pig headed as that.
