The former Federal Minister for Health Greg Hunt (AKA The Complete Hunt) blocked Nurse Practitioners having expanded billing rights under Medicare and perpetuated a regime whereby NPs must work under the consent of a GP even though the GP is not obliged to review any of their case files or be responsible for failing to monitor the quality of care delivered by the NP. Now there are workforce shortages, this is entirely a consequence of the Federal and State health ministers draconian mandates and their discrimination against NPs, who are required to have a relevant Master's Degree as well as sufficient years of experience to practice at all. Currently the government has made it impossible procedurally and economically for independent NP clinics to exist even if they have local community support.

  2. @victoria Not sure about pharmacists, what is there in their training that suggests that they have the levels of diagnostic skills that a GP or a NP is proven to have?
