Comments by "Jon Smith" (@jonsmith5058) on "Asking England fans what they think of FIFA's LGBT armband U-turn" video.
I’d be proud of Harry if he got sent off for it. He should wear those yellow cards as a badge of honour. I dont want England to win this cup. I’ll be ashamed if a win comes on the back of all this death and corruption. It tarnishes the game. I’d much rather go out with my head high, knowing we stood up for what we believed in and that it was more important than a game.

@smillailyas3974 so you’re telling me if you came to my country you would keep your mouth shut and refuse to comment when asked about homosexuality? I seriously doubt it. We absolutely can discuss the laws we disagree with inside and outside of other nations. You are free to think ours are morally corrupt, we can argue back how yours are evil. We arent breaking the laws in each others country, merely expressing contempt for certain laws. Why is that a problem,

@uchihaobito9865 no friend. If you come to my country you are allowed to fly a flag protesting homosexuality. Provided you do not encourage violence or death you can protest the action. I think what you fail to understand that its not about ‘gay acts’. I’m not suggesting you should tolerate gay men kissing in the street when you do not allow heterosexuals to do so. I have been in those situations and do agree with respecting local cultures, I dated a woman from Arab descent and we had to be very careful both cause of public affection but also because I am white. The issue here is that gay people are still discriminated against, even if they follow your rules. Many hotels are reported to not allow homosexuals to book a room. Etc etc. Gay men fear going there and being arrested. All we are asking for is tolerance. We get you dont like it, but its a private thing. Its grossly unfair to us to hear somebody is denied access to hotels or services in the country due to their sexuality. I fully accept and agree if a homosexual or heterosexual person were to openly display their affection in public you have every right to take offence and ask them to stop. I hope you see the nuance.

@uchihaobito9865 I still disagree. We were invited to Qatar when they volunteered to host the world cup, an event for everyone. When they do that but exclude certain people that excuse of ‘but you chose to come here’ is gone. They chose to invite the world in knowing full well football is for everyone, they must deal with our outrage if they cannot accept that and continue to exclude.

@uchihaobito9865 I think we can find a middle ground. Like I said, public affection etc I totally understand as it is not discrimatory, you ask both gay and straight people to do the same. I simply take issue with special rules especially for gay people or denying them service in hotels. I appreciate you say some accept but that is not the point, its still discrimination. If you came to my country and we said ‘no, you cannot use our hotels, we think Islam is immoral, some other hotels will allow it’ I think you would be understandably outraged. We should not and would not deny you access to any services open to the public based on your religion, I dont think its unreasonable to expect the same for gay men. Again, this issue becomes nuanced due to hosting the world cup. Had this not been the case one could argue you can stay closed off to that, but to me its a pre-requisite of hosting the cup that you tolerate such things and do not discriminate. FIFA stuff has been an advocate for inclusivity for a long time so it cannot of been a surprise.

@enlightenlife2840 whats your point? Does that stop the discrimination I spoke of?
2
@enlightenlife2840 that people are denied entry to hotels at all due to being homosexual. That kind of discrimination. Not sure what your point is about intellectuals? Are you trying to say Arabs won’t listen to reason as they even imprison intellectuals? Seems kinda awful. Also I know many Arabs who strongly disagree with you and are demanding change.
1
@enlightenlife2840 fair enough, I do understand. But I have to stand by my principles and cannot just excuse the discrimination I see.
1
@2msvalkyrie529 um learn history. Sodomy was openly practised in Ancient Greece and in many other cultures. As for comparing it to a swastika, gay rights is about allowing people, who are hurting no-one, to exist. Your example was a regime that exterminated people for existing, you are more on that side since you dont want gays to exist either.
1
@enlightenlife2840 I am doing all I can in this situation, boycotting the games and Qatar and keeping the discussion alive.

@MonaLisa.16 or you can create your own stupid theocracy nations. Football was started in countries which are now predominantly secular and have rights LGBT people. If Qatar wants to join in on the tournament, they need to accept that. You can go live your small life full of hate as you become increasingly irrelevant.
1
@MonaLisa.16 lol, I’m heterosexual moron. I just dont tolerate people being hateful to others for their sexuality. Lgbt acceptance is getting bigger and bigger around the world, cope harder. Its only small minded idiots like you who are ‘fed up of it’ but tough shit, the change wont stop and, like I said, you’ll just become increasingly irrelevant.
1
@MonaLisa.16 again, LGBT acceptance is only growing especially as more and more people fight back against the oppression of Islam against such things. Have you looked at Iran recently? There is alot of ‘Muslim’ people who hate the religion and are just looking for their moment to escape it. As I said, Football was established in the West, FIFA was started there. The cup is for everyone, but that means you cannot discriminate people based on gender, ethnicity, sexuality etc if you want to join in. Its a simple rule and your silly fantasies about a god should not matter. No-one cares what your dusty old book says except zealots like you. Cope harder as you see LGBT flags more and more and see more pushback against disguisting regimes like Qatar who practice modern slavery on this tournament covered in blood.
1
@MonaLisa.16 Lol, I dunno why you see it as some war or thing to ‘defeat’. Like I showed you, people are rebelling against oppressive Islamic regimes such as in Iran. Woman, Life, Freedom. There is no backlash like that for LGBT in Western countries. Islam has no place in football. Football is for everyone, I actually dont care what your faith is, provided you dont use it to justify hate or exclusion of other people who are not hurting anyone else, such as lgbt. Perhaps tell me, why do you have an issue with two consenting men sharing love? It doesnt affect you, why get your panties in such a twist.
1
@MonaLisa.16 how is Iran not an example? Its a religious theocracy where a great many hate the religion and the oppression and they have had too much and are now fighting back. Islam will not stifle LGBT rights, which only keep getting stronger, without some sort of Holy War to dominate the world, which wont happen. Lgbt has everything to do with football as football is for everyone. I’m not advocating for trans people in the sport in a competitive manner but there are plenty of gay and lesbian players who should feel welcome, then there are all the fans who all should be welcome. Like I said, cope harder as you see more of the world judge you for your tiny minds and hateful attitudes as more people realize your dusty old book is nonsense.

@DatActiveGuy yeah, except its not like a yank coming over here and trying to brandish to AR 15 as if they have the right. Its like a yank coming here and wearing an armband promoting gun legalisation….. which any of them could do. And in this case its far more important than your petty gun laws, its for LGBT rights.
