Honestly, fucking embarrassing that we have American generals are this clueless about Russian capabilities. The American brass, and the three letter agency spooks, are just trash. How is it that I knew the Russia military was poorly maintained and had poor morale, but top American leaders didn't? I think they're too focused on talking up potential adversaries in order to increase military budgets here in the US (and then retire to go get cushy consulting and board positions in the US MIC) than they are in actually knowing what's going on.
Just looking at public information, stuff reported in the regular news, or even Wikipedia ffs, it's easy to see that Russia's military has been 3rd world for quite some time now, pretty much since the Soviet Union fell. Add in the common sense that Russian soldiers have no great desire to conquer a brother nation for no good reason, and this was quite easy to predict.
Now unfortunately for us, there is still so much of a Cold War mentality at the Pentagon, they still think the enemy is one that doesn't exist, the USSR, and they are completely ignoring the real enemy, China. I am seriously worried that everyone in D.C. is either too focused on the last cold war to be ready for the current one, or outright compromised by Chinese money that they're actively working against American interests.
