so....you know u are actually regressive? U want to defend a dying status quo instead of adapting. The economy changes. It ALWAYS had. You can't keep mining forever. You need to TRANSITION. Transition to an automated economy. Fighting technology is just retarded.

rocco philbert I didn't say there's no iron, I said the industry changed. Forget the old time mines with thousands of miners. That's not gonna survive. Mines are more tech based. Workers are fewer and more skilled. End of the story. Adapt or die.

We suffered this same shift of production decades ago. You can't stop it. Isolationism doesn't work. Protectionism doesn't work. We tried protectionism for 40 years. Look at our industries now. They all fled. There are no jobs anymore. Either adapt or end up like us. Choose. The market doesn't care about your or my emotions. And no, "supporting your country economy by buying local" doesnt work. Tried already. people buy what's more affordable, not what's local. It's a LAW of the MARKET. If you FORCE people to buy products made locally, you'll cause a massive decline of the economy like in the USSR.

@manicmartyr69 Not sure if tariff will work. Think about it: if you stop free trade, you'll only lose commercial partners. USA economy is based on EXPORT, not on the internal market. If you put tariffs, the other states will too, and then you will damage your own exports. The actual solution would be to stay on top of the technological development in order to be more productive and being able to produce more at a better price=export more. Isolationism seems good on paper, but it never works in real life Then, the problem of China will solve itself. They produce shitty low quality products, on the long run, quality wins over shitty quantity. ALSO by being the tech leader, you force THEM to buy from u. Dont forget that CHina may be the largest exporter of these kind of low cheap products and services, but they are the number one IMPORTER of tech stuff and high quality products. 99% of precision machines and tech machines used in China are made in Germany or the USA.

@johnh6375 I'm no environmentalists. And I am not a specialist in the mining field. I only know how the market works and how it will ALWAYS work. Profit margins. If it costs less to produce something elsewhere or with another technique, that's gonna happen. Whether we like it or not. So, this is not about greens vs miners. THis is just the market changing and the economy in the USA shifting from first sector to secondary services and high tech.

@mrbrainbob5320 Of course, in every country most of the production is for internal consumption, I'm talking about the export edge. What makes companies grow and thrive. It's not internal demand but external demand. Simply because the rest of the world is BIGGER than your own country, so it has more space for growth.

@TOH_Fan YEah bust m99% of the time the products are done in china, shipped in the US, re-worked or changed here and then sold as "made in the US". But in reality 99% of the production was in china.

@zachhayes9512 No, that's not what we are saying bozo. We are saying technology is raising the standards for jobs. We are saying jobs require more skills and training. 20 years ago you could learn how to fix a mechanical engine, find a job and do it for 40 years. Now, even car engine mechanics need to have skills in electronics, knowing multiple languages etc etc.... This is what we mean. These miners want to keep their job unchanged. It won't happen.

@corvusduluth Guys I get it that you FEEL attacked and you fear losing your job. Nut that's no good reason to say bullshit and deny the fact that mining is not a high skill job. Its a profession that has no future. I'm a warehouse worker. My profession is unskilled too, I'm being replaced by machine and people with more technical knowledge. I am trying to IMPROVE and ADAPT. I do not cry, I do not try to keep the status quo, I do not fight against progress, I ADAPT. You need to ADAPT too or ou'll be swallowed by it. Emotions are irrelevant. YOu are totally missing my point. For the 10000th time. I never said mining will disappear. I said miners will need to either CHANGE or lose their jobs. A 1950 miner will NEVER have the same technological and skill level required by a 2020 mine. Unless you go to Camerun and work in a open-sky mine with a pickaxe lol

@corvusduluth No, also strikes don't work. YOu may win short term, but long term you are gonna antagonize management and you are gonna look uncooperative. Thus in the long run striking kills your job. As an Italian I cna confirm it. After 60 years of strikes... Who's better off' The Italian workers or the USA workers? Objectively the USA workers.

General miners, dudes who only need how to use a shovel or drive a truck are not needed anymore. YOu need more skills in the current market. 150k is 10 times what I do in Europe with a normal job. YOu are an exception, I dont even know why you are talking about your life, 99% of the unskilled workers, even in America, earn like 25k on average. That's the issue, that we are unskilled, and there's no demand for our work and we can't get skilled in anything cuz we are dumb. That's the discussion. How to solve that problem. And no, don't tell me that we cann all do electric mantenance. Because you know we can't. YOu need a particular type of person. I sued to do electrical implant installation. I've no idea how it worked, I tried too learn, only did more damage than what I actually did for the boss.
