  1. Correct me if I am wrong but why can't we have two clocks at a distance, a button that sets them both to zero. Once they're both set to zero, we fire the light, as soon as light touches the clock 1 it starts ticking and same for the clock 2. Now measure the difference between the elapsed on both clocks and that should tell 1 way speed of light?

  2. Interesting idea! In theory yes they would be at rest relative to each other but like you mentioned its not known if the expansion of the universe would affect at this scale.

  4. Yes a lightyear is a distance that light would travel in a year. So it can be thought of as both distance or duration.

  5. Thinking the same thing. If both clocks are at 0 and only start ticking when light hits them then why do we need to worry about synchronisation? Just subtraction the time of clock 2 from clock 1, no?

  6. Exactly my first thought! But only such object that exists is a blackhole so its hard to verify.
