I told her that as an adult, nobody is gonna look out for you, so you need to be the one to take care of yourself and be proactive about getting the life you want. If you don't prioritize your own goals, you'll end up just working forever on other people's goals—like helping your boss get his goals, or helping your family get their goals, but never getting what you actually want. If you don't put yourself first in your life, your happiness will either be an accident or never happen at all.
