@markm.3297 sure, American is the one and only, with nothing else being good :D :D :D

uhm actually the Mack Lehigh Valley Operations is only a million square foot large (according to Mack) ... the Mercedes-Benz truck production facility is more than 6 times larger (when looking only at the area of the buildings, not the entire production facility); There's a HUGE difference in size ....
4
@kevinsunderman4432 of course it's large, but when you compare it to other brands building large trucks, this one from mercedes-Benz is still a multiple larger than the others. Apart from that: interesting how you go from commercial trucks to war history
3
I guess that's quite an understatement: apart from a few Unimogs, are there any Mercedes-Benz trucks around in the USA?
3
@kiwiforever3604 Volvo should start building van chassis ... so far Mercedes-Benz covers THE widest range of vehicles
3
West Coast funny that we don't have issues with ours, at least not such issues; Where I work we depend on van-based units and we beat quite the shit out of them, driving them at their limits ... we use the Sprinter for many generations so far and didn't have engine problems. Also many trucking companies rely on the Mercedes-Benz trucks here, no matter if they operate in the flatlands or the mountains, in the far north or south
3
as long as neither Scania nor Volvo produce some compact chassis for commercial use, like a van, it's not relevant for us ^^
2
pretty much any trucking business?
2
I have to work on smaller units, usually vans, and in that size range I definetly prefer Mercedes-Benz over other brands like Ford, Volkswagen, Iveco or Fiat. They aren't perfect, but concerning that we beat the shit out of them I'm not surprised, any van based unit would require maintenance then, and so far the Mercedes never broke down 3 times on one run (like e.g. Iveco did)
2
other brands make it much easier to copy stuff: they simply buy stuff from another brand, disassemble it and take a very close look.
2
well thing is: from an economic aspect companies need to go for cabover trucks in Europe as the length of the entire truck is limited: thus, with a shorter tractor you can pull a longer trailer = more cargo = more money obviously. Althoguh road layouts in many countries across Europe wouldn't be an issue for American trucks, there are places where it gets tight, and then the cabovers are obviously easier to maneuver around tight corners. I like the longer tractors of American trucks, also if it's a Volvo which is actually from Sweden. But comparing American and European cabover trucks, design-wise the European ones are definetly better looking then
2
@adoreslaurel tbh: I have to work with a Mercedes-Benz on my job ... there are some things I don't like, but no other manufacturer came up with a better chassis so far. Neither Volkswagen, not Iveco, ...
2
It makes sense to build a frame suitable for many different tasks and specifications needed; The might be used for pretty much anything, from simple box trucks to fire trucks, truck cranes to dump trucks, and each customer has different specifications e.g. concerning ground clearance, wheel / drive / steering configuration etc
2
because the uploader is a TV station which made the documentary and bought all the required licenses to use these songs
2
as only the length of the trailer is limited in the USA, you of course can go for a longer tractor unit; As the length of the entire truck is limited here, you of course would rather get a short tractor unit to increase the loading space in the trailer; They don't have bathrooms, but they have beds, TV, microwaves and fridges as well and they bring you across the large highways just as well as they bring you through the mountains, southern heat or freezing north
2
@MindRiot666 actually they do; Although they are not very common in the USA and Canada, some Unimogs are around and the "new" Freightliner Econic is nothing else than a rebadged Mercedes Econic
1
@colingoldthorpe5918 you are aware than in some places in Europe they run road trains, both some kind of medium size ones but also the large ones like in Australia?
1
Mercedes-Benz has THE largest lineup which no other brand can compete with. Anything from cars to vans, trucks and buses. And not only the standard version ones but also ones made for offroad, heavy haulage, or designed super compact and maneuverable
1
@tazkrebbeks3391 tbh I'd rather ride the Benz than a Ford truck, and I'm not really a Mercedes fan. American trucks are cool concerning available space inside, but while the old one had an awesome appearance, the new ones just look odd tbh and from the technical aspect they're unfortunately far behind
1
@mbmann3892 actually Freightliner sells some ge-badged Mercedes in the USA as well, let it be the compact Sprinter or the larger Econic, I guess Unimogs are still sold from Mercedes-Benz directly.
1
@anoniem9518 but that's where they gain quite much experience on how other brands do their stuff; Often they don't even buy it but just take a rental car ...
1
@stevenbodum3405 well that doesn't mean it's a Mercedes-Benz. Skoda is part of the Volkswagen group and their cars use many VW parts, but although VW is sold in the USA ... Skoda definetly isn't. There are no Mercedes-Benz Actros, Zetros etc sold in the USA
1
you must be Swedish, obviously :D
1
Mercedes only seels cars and vans in the US, while Mercedes offers THE widest range of vehicles among all brands I know. Not even Ford offers that range of vehicles.
1
they're big in the business and as far as I know Mercedes is the brand offering THE widest range of vehicles, with no other brand coming anywhere close ... not even Ford; We run Mercedes Sprinters at the company and I like them apart from some minor details
1
@HI-vv2nm how are up to 700 hp underpowered?
1
@mbmann3892 We have Sprinters at our job and we don't have a problem with rust ... we use them for many generations already, without serious problems. We have snow and salt as well, no big issue for us
1
@forenamesurname4576 Iveco Daily is some of the worst ... it's the only van that broke down 3 times on the same tour ...
1
Mercedes had a pickup on the market, but it never got popular and had only low sales numbers; The X-Class was on the market from 2017 until 2020
