  1. American army base in South Korea is likely to remain because Camp Humphreys is not in South Korea to defend Seoul from Pyongyang's invasion. Today's location of American military bases in South Korea looks like it is defending South Korea from a potential Chinese amphibious attack on its western shore. But the American military presence in South Korea now has more things to do with politics rather than military strategy. Without American boots on the ground, Seoul can trust the American alliance treaty obligation. Koreans don't trust Americans due to their historical experience with the US (and most Americans don't know it). If they find they cannot trust American security assurance anymore, they will go to nuke, just as their North Korean cousin has done. It would be the beginning of the end for the NTP system.
