Naval logistics. Put another way: Water, water everywhere. And not a drop to drink.

I've read that foresters would use 'braces'. Devices that would force the tree to branch/grow into specific shapes. Ostensibly, this gave the wood a natural-shape and a natural-strength when it was harvested.

@erikgranqvist3680 Thanks Erik. I'm a skeptic, so I don't believe everything I read. You seem to know what you are talking about, so I appreciate the feedback. I don't believe that they were using braces for 'masts'. I believe they were trying to grow the trees into shapes that would be used as 'ribs'. Now that I think about this, it seems that the topic, forestry for shipbuilding, would make an interesting topic for one of Drach's viddies. What types of wood were used for what types of applications. How they were cultivated. How they were harvested and cured. How they were cut and assembled.

The channel was only CG voice when I got here. And I miss it. The C made some spectacularly bad/funny mistakes. Especially with "naw__tit__ickle" words and phrases. Ship names were always a crapshoot.

Next year, when you do get around to 'resupply at sea', please go into detail about the IJN capabilities (as mentioned here). I believe the topic is crucial to a better understanding of that campaign.

Wood. Do a viddie on wood. For shipbuilding. What types of trees were used? For what purposes. How were they cultivated, harvested and cured? How were they cut, shaped, assembled and fastened? Because it's something that I 'need to know' in my day-to-day life.

@jbigger59 I try to do my own research also, before posing questions. It's not always easy. I've read that the Iowa class also suffered from the same vibration problems. More to the point, I've heard that if you visit an Iowa, you can easily see that the rear-mast is 'reinforced'. Can anyone confirm? You are on the right track. Keep reading.
