  2. No. I don't agree. In my opinion, BUORD get's a bad rap. BUORD does not deserve the negative reputation. I began harboring this thought while reading Friedman's "Naval Anti-Aircraft Guns and Gunnery". Specifically, about the turret/gun stabilization systems. They were the responsibility of BUORD. As was everything else having to do with naval AAA. And SO MUCH MORE. This raised a question. "What was BUORD responsible for?" How many systems and subsystems were under their prevue? Yes, they screwed the pooch with the torpedos. And their initial reactions (41 and 42) to this debacle made them 'seem' even more evil and incompetent. BUT...what percentage of their 'responsibility' was torpedos? How much of their work are we ignoring when we paint them with only a torpedo brush? I don't have the time or inclination to answer those questions. I don't have the factual data. But I have a 'feeling'. I 'feel' that we are guilty of 'the glass is half empty' syndrome. I 'feel' that BUORD is not being judged fairly. Am I wrong?

  3. To be clear. I am looking at numbers. Numbers of 'systems' (weapons). Number of subsystems (mounts, stabilization, fire-directors, computers). The success numbers are big. The failure numbers are ... not as big. I obviously need to read more about 'Iowa turrets' and 'teat-sucking sycophants'. Any suggestions for my reading list?
