When I read 1984 I found out "it's literally the ussr". You remember the neighbor of the main character being arrested because his daughter told on him? It's the pavlik morozov's story. You remember how they called the department of war the department of peace etc? It's how the ussr called the war against finland "the liberation of finland", the occupation of baltic states "the liberation of baltic states" etc. You remember how the main character was tortured? This is how the ussr tortured its prisoners, just take bukharin and zinoviev as an example. If you don't want to work or you can't find a job you are sent to a labor camp or to a prison. Maybe you are too lazy for a family too?
