Because for he fact that many of those who are turned away for title 42 return because they are not counted and not processed for the offense of violating US code 1325. so when they come back repeatedly they are not charged with stiffer fines as a second offense carries penalties that include imprisonment.

Good point benny. We had a 17 year decline in border crossings at the southern border to the lowest point in 50 years before Trump and his policies. And he doubled the number by 2019 to 977000, a 20 year high. And again by October of 2020 at a 20 year high. Were it remained a 20 year high and continued. Trumps wall did nothing. Covid was the only thing that reduced immigration under Trump.

Ending construction of the wall is not a policy and we were at record numbers of immigrants crossing under Trump. Terminating remain in Mexico is not a policy, It is a Trump policy that violators immigration law. Again stopping non existent agreements is not a policy. Ending title 42 is not a policy and it is causing an increase in border crossings.

@sherriejones1994 that's the same argument the Trump administration made in court. And the judge said that is irrelevant to the clear wording in the law. They still have a right to make the request. The Right doesn't get to assume all asylum request are invalid before they reach the border to make those claims, just because the Right wing rhetoric claims they are. That is why we have laws and a process.

BS, after enacting his policies it doubled to the highest number of apprehensions in 20 years. Covid was the only thing that reduced it and that was for only 9 months.

@PeterNebelung Our laws didn't allow millions of unknowns to waltz across our border. It was Trumps and GOP policies to unilaterally undermine our existing laws that allows it. We had a 11 year decline in southern border crossing to the lowest point in 50 years prior to Trump and his polices. By 2019 Trumps policies doubled the number of people crossing the southern border to 977,000. He only saw a reduction for the first 9 months of 2020 due to covid, before it went back to a 20 year monthly high in October of 2020. It has remained a 20 year high and increasing ever since under Trumps failed policies and Title 42.
