Trumps zero tolerance policy was in violation of US code 1158 of the INA laws for asylum. It was reversed in federal court. Legal asylum seekers are suing us for the separations from their children at the border under that policy. There was an offer of a settlement for that law suit to save tax payers money. There is no official evidence of any offer for that amount of money. They had to contact the plaintiff after that report was made to ensure they understood that amount being reported was not an offer. The BS is coming from the Right.

You are just as low informed. Asylum seekers are not required to use a port of entry they only have to be on US soil to request asylum. That idc what 1158 says clearly that point of entry is irrelevant and the request can not be made in advance By our laws asylum is an open invitation That is what the Right does not understand about our laws, because that right wing media bubble lies about the law. And the Right 8s ignorant of how they work. Also the first offense for a non asylum seeker carries a civil penalty there was never a reason for criminal charges and separations. That's why those policies were stopped in federal court

Trumps policy was violating the law and it was separating anyone crossing between check points including legal asylum seekers that fact has been established. Mexico can not offer the safe haven required and that's why Mexico does not qualify as a first country.

  8.  @casper3130  we would be required to have a treaty with Mexico that shows they can provide that safe haven. We have one with Canada, but not Mexico. That is why that policy was removed by a federal judge appointed by Trump when Trump tried to use that policy.

"Authority to apply for asylum (1) In general Any alien who is physically present in the United States or who arrives in the United States (whether or not at a designated port of arrival and including an alien who is brought to the United States after having been interdicted in international or United States waters), irrespective of such alien's status, may apply for asylum in accordance with this section or, where applicable, section 1225(b) of this title."

The idea of a third country policy that, legally can not happen in those countries, is not be there so that Trump can push the burden on to another nation. We have these laws, because we made agreements to help these people regardless of the rhetoric that the Right is pushing to build that narrative of fear and hate. There is a process the law outlines that process. It was working before Trump destroyed it. And if you ever find that 2019 article, because it sure was not 2016-2017, it will explain that to you. Unless it's Right wing media, they will just lie or ignore the law and how Trumps policies failed to fit that narrative.

That was reversed in federal court in East Bay Sanctuary vs. Trump. about 3 years ago. That is why we are being sued by legal asylum seekers for a amount that the Right wing media has claimed to be 450k per individual. That reported amount was never confirmed and has been denied, yet the Right has still continued with the false narrative and continued the lie. Biden still is using title 42, that and covid was the only thing that reduced immigration under Trump after he had record number of border crossings in 2019. Yes Trump remain in Mexico policy is also a violation of US code 1158 section 235b1b. "If the officer determines at the time of the interview that an alien has a credible fear of persecution (within the meaning of clause (v)), the alien shall be detained for further consideration of the application for asylum." Biden asked SCOTUS for a stay of the Texas Judges order and SCOTUS denied it, there was no ruling on the legality of the policy. Are these enough facts for my accusation or did you need more?
