  1. Nah, mercantilism was about maximizing export and minimizing import. More colonies = more export. They didn't just take land so others couldn't. What this aims to do in the end is increasing the amount of gold, etc in one's country. If you look that much on import and export you might lose sight on the ineffeciencies inside your country because that doesn't play into that
