Not just that, but the US also has another massive geographic advantage not available to most other states protected by the oceans (island nations) - that it's, well, massive. And rich in resources. The only comparable nation you could name would be Australia (also known as 'the lucky country' for a reason). Basically the US really ought to own the title of Promised Land, not Israel. It's easy mode.

Not poorer. Rather other nations have developed themselves much more rapidly, without war. US per capita income still doubled in just the last few decades, but that's much slower than the blistering pace set by nations like Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China.

@Nguyenducky Bub China's last war ended in 1979, the US' last war ended in 2021. The Chinese one lasted less than a month, the preceding US one in the same country lasted nearly 20 years and killed around 3 million people. Please tell me about how peaceloving the US is. It literally holds the title of most military interventions of any country on Earth (including Russia) since WW2, and has been at war some where or the other on Earth for literally the majority of its entire history.

@Nguyenducky That's an ironic thing for you to say. Wasn't that China's age old position? Send gifts to the Chinese emperor to flatter him as great. Kingdoms even as far away as Malaya did it. Now you want to pay obeisance to the US instead? Also how did Vietnam 'provoke' the US, pray? By having a civil war that was none of their business? And it isn't 'easy' at all. When Bangladesh was fighting for its independence, they tried pressuring us (with force i.e. their navy) to let their oppressors win. When we face nuclear armed enemies on either side, they still drop sanctions on us for daring to get nukes ourselves. Which Iran, a country they've already messed in before, is facing right now, but Israel gets a free pass. What did Gautemala or Panama do to 'deserve' their US interventions? What business is it of the US who runs Iraq? And so on. Living in peace with the US requires you to utterly transform yourselves to align with them like what Japan was forced to do. In that case, since you seem okay with that and given your nearest threat is China, why not just do that for China instead? Doesn't sound so appealing now, does it? The US is ultimately oceans away from most of the places it lays down terms for, which means it really has no business getting involved there as developments elsewhere on Earth don't threaten it much. In other words, it should be a LOT easier to be at peace with the US than it is. It isn't, due to nearly 500 years of western ethos insisting on their cultural superiority and hence responsibility to shape the world in their own image. Carried out first by the Europeans, and now by the Americans.

That's pretty much what all the Asian tigers did. There hasn't been a major war in the SE Asia since 1979. But all the Asian powers - Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, etc. - followed a pattern of strongly state-led industrial development. In some cases it even sounded ludicrous at the time, like how Korea wanted to build a steel industry despite having no resources. Yet look at POSCO today...

I used to like VisualPolitik before cos they often covered parts of the world that don't get much coverage in mainstream media. Bot nowadays it's just one endless stream of Russia, China, Russia, China, Russia, China, Russia... They've gone full bore of cashing in on their likely mostly western viewership. I hear plenty about both nations already, so I don't watch them anymore. Just watch this channel now, and hope it keeps the political pandering to a minimum. I'm here to learn, not gloat.

@Nguyenducky 'Some' don't call the US 'the accidental superpower', Peter Zeihan calls it that. And he's made a whole career being chief cheerleader for the US, so take that with a grain of salt. There's nothing 'accidental' about the US being so either, as this video makes clear. It began with a set of massive advantages over everyone else (explained by Zeihan in his book) and then translated those advantages into superpower status, instead of more peaceful goals like giving all its people healthcare.

@Nguyenducky And yes, I'm well aware from your name that you know the country being referred to above well. Which is why it's funny seeing someone like you cheering for the US lol. People really do have short memories it seems. Even Russia will be the beneficiary of that a few years after the war in Ukraine ends I suppose. This is different from hating China mind, which I know you guys have a long history with as well, but promoting the US as the good guys is the mostly 1984-esque doublethink I've ever seen. We have a bitter history with China as well, but we don't let it blind us to what the US is like. Then again, I suspect you're an emigrant to the west. That would explain a lot.

@robydragu6705 The US is unusual for the reason that it is one of the only nations in history (and pretty much all the others are also former colonial powers) to fight wars far from its borders. Almost every other nation both past and present has fought close to home. Indeed it's kinda stupid that the US even does that - given its position you would expect a country like the US to end up like Canada or Australia i.e. not a particularly big spender on its military, but instead they did the reverse. The US has even pulled off the ridiculous by selling far off wars as a threat to their security.

Maybe reality will let us live as Star Citizens even before Star Citizen the game actually launches. Actually that's probably likely. 😂
