  1. "strategic reasons" just sounds like a catch-all term that reveals nothing. So does 'economics'. So that list being just 7 items long seems rather artificial, since the only reason it stops at that is cos you've lumped a bunch of things together. In this case, the reason is in order to control the source of myriad rivers, as well as mineral resources. It's also a great buffer region. That's 3 distinct reasons. Lumping them together hides more than it reveals. And do the former two (the third is more obvious) fall under 'strategic reasons', or 'economics'? And why can't it fall under both? Etc. Why not just drop the opaque categorization and speak of the reasons themselves?

  2. None of these things are new, and China has thrived all this time despite that. So what's more likely - that China is making new enemies (demonstrably false, since as said none of this is new), or that people are dredging up everything they can find to attack China with? I mean, you could just as well point out that India has ongoing disputes with almost all its neighbours (not just China), but you're not hearing about that everywhere all the time now are you? Cos it's old news that serves no purpose, and hardly unusual (most major countries have ongoing diplomatic disputes). You're hearing all about the Chinese ones now only cos China is the latest global hot topic.
