@stephenmarcus9601 The funny thing is that Americans are far more keen on Taiwan declaring independence asap than the Taiwanese themselves are. Literally less than a tenth of Taiwanese support an immediate declaration of independence, according to their own surveys. Why? Cos unlike spoiled Americans, the Taiwanese know they have to live with the consequences of that - they can't just run away. Americans never have to live with the consequences of their messes abroad. As we've seen most recently in Afghanistan, they can always just run away if things go south. The Taiwanese are more mature

@NotSureNotSureNotSure The CCP has said it'll invade Taiwan for 70 years, and done nothing, with Taiwan today being both prosperous and having China as its largest trade partner. The US has never claimed Cuba - its island neighbour allied with its enemies - and yet has already invaded it, as well as blockaded, embargoed and sanctioned it for over half a century. Really telling contrast there, between how China has treated Taiwan versus how the US has treated Cuba. And btw, neither India nor Russia are stooges of the US. They aren't going to be dragged along on an American campaign.

@riser7795 Actually the reason why you see so much rhetoric is less because of what's changed in Taiwan so much as what changed in the US. The tensions really stepped up after 2016. There was something pretty significant that happened in 2016.

Sounds like Latvia is trying real hard to emulate the German economy.
