@badluck5647 The purpose of a democratic system of govt. is for it to be representative of its people and their concerns. To argue against some parties getting into govt. that do have support among enough of the populace to win an election is fundamentally anti-democratic, and ultimately only leads to marginalization and resentment by those not being heard.

@ultrachannel Not all European countries are dominated by just two parties, and some countries have also had major shifts in who the biggest parties are over time. Also, Europe is not monolithic - there's many varieties of democracy, and Europe (like every other continent) features quite a few different ones.

@badluck5647 Where you draw the minimum threshold is a matter of debate (5% ought to be good imo, or at most 10%), but democracies are meant to be representative. If they're too small a portion of the votebase, they naturally won't make it to govt. If they're a significant portion of it, they have a democratic right to be represented. To disallow that is anti-democratic. Democratic govt. isn't meant to be 'enlightened' according to any particular view, it is meant to reflect its populace. That's why the saying goes that 'the people get the govt. they deserve'. If anyone doesn't like that, the answer is to work on persuading the citizenry to change their ideals, not suppressing it via mechanisms that make the govt. less representative.
