Most are small. India has around 20,000. Countries can have some pretty big numbers of dams, as long as you disabuse yourself of the image of the stereotypical giant dam (such as the Hoover or Three Gorges).

Guys this isn't an dickwaving contest, so don't turn it into one. Like I said, countries usually have a lot more dams than you might think, even small countries for whom you wouldn't even have heard of any notable dams there. It's just a matter of rethinking one's image of what the typical dam is.

@aryanpokharel1181 Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan have issues with India. Maldives is minor. Sri Lanka is just playing both sides to benefit the most. And Bhutan? Seriously? India has been Bhutans' closest ally since ever

@JD.......... The US won't really face this kind of problem. Yet another way in which the US is fortunate is that most of its rivers are internal - right from origin to end. Those that are international mostly involve Canada, a close ally and, even if it wasn't friendly, much weaker nation. So international water disputes aren't a concern for Americans.
