@EconLessons i think most psychopaths face some checks an balances every now and then. If not, these traits will grow. I made a top comment on this.

Yes, because most from his generation had poor diets and grew up under similar circumstances. Traditional russian food is good if you can afford it and it doesn’t make you obese. Then you have the problem with alcohol… it’s not just you, if your mother consumed alcohol while pregnant, who knows how it affects the child.

Assuming that the hypothesis is correct, I think that lack of checks and balances for some decades has made this condition worse. I think putin is surrounded by a small circle of Aye men that never question anything he says. During soviet era, I think the General Secretary was more like a CEO and that there existed a ”Board of Directors” as it were that could and would question the GS. Not so with putin or Kim III. I can’t imagine someone would dare to tell him that he should smoke less and also lose some weight.

@xiaodingjones1554 Not likely, I think. I think it was difficult to get a plumber and if he did something that worked, you would not complain. Have you seen district heating in russia? I’d say russian plumbers are not the best there are.

@EconLessons I think poor nutrition (including iodine deficiency) and exposure to environmental toxins during development could affect brain function and behavior. Also, adversity, traumatic stress, or difficult life circumstances can contribute to the development of psychopathic traits. Julia Ioffe and others mentioned under what circumstances grew up and I think all of these factors were there. General quality of food also matters and his family was poor so I expect it was bad.
