Comments by "Fredrik Wahlgren" (@TheFrewah) on "Russian Economy - Parts Shortage" video.
Some people react when they see that russians can buy western soda, candy and other western brands, they immediately react by saying that sanctions don’t work. I say it doesn’t matter much, it can be imported and the seller will make a small profit. What matters are the important things that russia no longer can get. I say they work really well. It’s just that it takes time for them to take effect. If you shut down the engine on a super tanker, it will move for quite some time before it comes to a halt and that is what’s happening now.

If you have John Deere equipment, there’s electronics that makes sure you can only use john deere parts, right?

@williammasselink I don’t know how it is, companies can’t sell directly to russia but it seems there are people that think sanctions don’t work if they see western brands in a store. Trolls take advantage of this.

@jefferyjeffery1707 Horrible. When I did my military service in Sweden, there was a guy who had a father that was a farmer. I don’t know what he grew but timing was critical when it came to harvesting and that was nervous. It could be that the ideal time to do so was a few days away and it just so happened that there was a good chance of rain then and that had a major impact on value. Even worse now it seems.

Sadly, he has been demonetised by youtube without warning. He used to work in the energy sector. I feel upset about this.

@jefferyjeffery1707 I heard that you can only go to an authorized workshop if you want something to be fixed because only they have the codes that need to be entered for the machine to work. I think it’s subject to lawsuits because you can’t repair yourself. As with smartphones, that’s why there’s so much elecronic junk.

I saw a documentary that showed the facilities short after the wall fell. It was a really sad thing to see and still it seems as if many russians thought east germany was a paradise in comparison. Well, russia doesn’t have citizens, it has population only.

There’s not much the so called ”oligarchs” can do. The vast majority are simple thieves like roman abramovich who stole large amounts of diesel before he became an oligarch. These people hold money owned by putin.

@simonadams4857 I was about to say that the soviet mentality is still alive which is pretty much what you say. It’s kind of interesting that russia hasn’t managed to make new friends since soviet times which makes you wonder if anything has changed. It seems their ”friendship” is all about power.
