@alfred9895 It sure would be wonderful. It is if the government is almost purposefully doing this. The cuts are what put people off joining in the first place, even with the recruitment programs so as a result they felt like they had to switch to more advanced technology even more which just meant cutting even more jobs. It was a total Catch-22. If the government had promised they weren’t going to be wasting money on more equipment and actually promised they weren’t going to be cutting any more jobs and increased spending for regular soldiers wages, and added the equipment on top of that, I’m sure they would actually get the numbers they needed.

Definitely. I’m not one for listening to the Americans. If I we should definitely distance ourselves from them as much as possible when it comes to their politics. In fact we should really be trying to correct them rather than the other way round. But when it comes to the size of our army, they are definitely right. Large-scale fighting is definitely going to be a problem in the very near future especially in Asia, let alone threats from the sea and air by Russia and at this rate (even with our superior special forces who are some of the greatest in the world) Britain is going to be more of a handicap to its allies than a benefit if we don’t get out act together.

@discipleaj I one-hundred percent agree. I would much prefer the van total number of soldiers was at least 150,000 with reservists of 30 to 40,000.👍🏼 That would be a much more effective fighting force where we could actually comfortably send out other troops to different parts of the world to help with smaller crises while still knowing that we could take part in an expeditionary war in the near future.

@ze89412 Oh, YES WE DO.

@Orcaben1 Couldn’t agree more.

That would be much more preferable. Although the ideal would really be 150,000 regulars in different areas of the army and 30 to 40,000 reservists. Now that’s what we really need. It is very much doable in many ways including spending by comparison to a lot of this new gear which will not be effective in a larger scale war than by comparison to just small scale insurgents.

Oh my god, I completely forgot he made that ‘promise’ during his early speech. I think that’s honestly one of the first times I’ve seen him completely betray his own words and actually cut the Armed Forces when he promised he wouldn’t be cutting the army in any way. Now that is a genuine betrayal, and I am a Boris Johnson supporter most of the time, so this is very disappointing. Yes, It is good we are increasing spending in some areas of the Armed Forces and the Royal Navy is getting more ships. But it’s not worth it if it means we are just exchanging troops for new technology which, unlike soldiers, can become outdated very quickly and is not as flexible when we will most likely have to go into an expeditionary war in the near future against a large-scale force. We are in deep, DEEP TROUBLE if this goes on any longer. Yes, it does seem like the Royal Navy is the one that will marginally benefit the most out of this with them finally getting more ships and new models to replace the outdated ones to be paired with our destroyers and beautiful aircraft carriers, but at what cost.
