15:37 "Yes, the country has many problems [...] but still, these problems are a far cry for what is the norm at a regional level". Judging by what one sees on the internet, it seems that most of Chileans don’t get how far (worse) are the economic problems in the rest of Latinamerica. Some even act like if you just offended them if you mention how successful their country's model has been compared in the region.

@alexisramis Yes, of course that we should aspire to be better than the best examples of the world. Just take in consideration that the comparison of a country to its surrounding is a good measure of how good and bad is its potential. If you have a country with the quality of life of Chile in western Europe, you can infer that it is below their potential (cause the neighbor probably shares similar history and conditions). With the same logic you can infer that North Korea is WAY below its potential when compared to the south. The rest of Latinamerica should aspire to be like wester Europe, but for the moment, aspire to be like Chile might be a more realistic “short” term goal.

@madlad1511 Don’t know if the wealth gap is as problematic as other factors. (Inequality doesn't seem to be as important as thought for poverty, so it might be more likely that their quality of life is good in comparison to other countries in Latinamerica, but the cost of life in cities is high. Anyway, what we know is a problem is also the pension system)
