  1. I get it, but I really don't get why you'd calculate like that outside of trying to show exactly how you're counting. Although I guess that is the point. I never really saw the point of the borrowing thing either, but I calculate almost everything in my head. I get confused if there's too much clutter through calculations in my papers. It's easier for me to do it in my head and then write down the result. I got ADD, so concentration is an issue.
